They're both primarily 1-gap defenses. A lot of people assume because Bill Parcells is the head coach that they are running his typical 2-gap scheme, but the defensive coaching staffs seems to have drawn a greater degree of influence from Wade Phillips than it did Bill Parcells. (As a side note, I'd be curious to see what Paul Pasqualoni ran as a head coach)

An easy rule of thumb is that a 2-gap defender is going to line up directly heads up over a linemen, and a 1-gap defender is going to line up over a gap.

Yeah, I knew that Phillips usually runs a 1 gap which is why I asked about Dallas.

Yeah I know how to identify it, I just haven't been able to watch the Dolphins games this year. I think I've watched one and then two quarters of another and that's it. I never really looked because it's on stream and everything is so damn small.

A few more years and you'll be 21 and you can catch the games at your local sports bar....or you just get a fake ID. LOL. Jk

If it's a daytime game, you can still go anyways as long as you don't try to order a Long Island Tea or such. :tongue2: Order a regular tea and you'll be fine. ;)

By the way...ESPNU replays most of the good games during the week so you might want to check that frequently for the Neb-Missou replay. I'd be shocked if they didn't replay it between Sunday and next Wed. I'll keep an eye out for ya, too.

IDK....maybe we can have our huge pile of **** and eat it, too.
Paul can still clog the middle on 1st and 2nd/short yardage...with Suh playing on the outside at that time....and move Suh and Merling inside on 3rd and passing downs. Nothing wrong with letting the Samoan be a 2 down player, Suh a virtual 3 down, while keeping a very fresh rotation across the rest of the line with Langford, Merling, and Starks. Yay, nay???

For "us" Cam Wake's emergence could be a really timely thing, if we finish poorly, but resign Matty Roth, our OLB"s would be in their primes and would free up an early pick, or three, to spend on non Parcellian players.

Like a Wr, a Te, ILB perhaps?

Strategically, if those two players play at a high level against this tough schedule, Ireland could be freed to take whomever he wished, in fact we could trade up, or trade back, and the only glaring weakness is at Wr and Ayodele's ILB postion.

That is to say, last season with Pennington we saw a spread the ball around approach, this year it is apparent Ronnie B and RW and the Oline is the key to the season, the last two seasons our offensive philosophy has been fluid to say the least...

Damn... I'm tryin. You can try a Google of "Missouri vs Nebraska 2009" and see if you get a hit. You might have to download Bittorrent which will allow you to possibly download it and play it, kind of like Kazaa does. Let me know if that works.

Gabe Carimi versus Thaddeus Gibson is going to be a good match up. Anyone else looking forward to it? I'll be flipping back and forth between the OSU/Wisconsin game and the Ole Miss/Bama one.

    What a play by Arenas.

What a terrible play all around by Shay Hodge. He didn't even beat Arenas at the line, doesn't separate and then doesn't win the ball down the field.

watched purdue/ minnesota earlier. Not impressed with DT Mike Neal from Purdue. Minnesota on the other hand had a couple of players. WR Eric Decker reminded me a bit of Anthony Gonzalez. A 2nd or 3rd round pick? Wouldnt spend a 1st on him but 2nd or 3rd seems about right. CB Traye Simmons seems to be a decent athelete. Might be worth a shot in the 6th or 7th round

    Watching Alabama/ Mississippi now

Kinda underwhelmed by Greg Hardy so far. Was expecting more.

mistake free...Ole Miss can't do anything on offense. It'd probably be easier for them to jump-start a Gremlin going uphill. ;)

Did you see Snead try to throw the route down the sideline and it ended up being a one hopper?

    Ouch.

Also, Trent Richardson as well as Mark Ingram are men. Man they are powerful. Richardson was the top running back in the nation coming out of HS so it comes as no surprise.

    Hardy's playing injured.

Decker is a good player. Very strong wrists, can make the tough catch, runs routes well. Question will be, can he separate at the next level? Same questions with Hakeem Nicks IMO. I like Decker quite a bit.

I've been thinking about it.... we have 2 CBs who might become 2 of the top all around corners in the league. As they improve, there will be a little less of a need for a mega-playmaking S like Berry, although I'd love to have him.

So the player that I think could really tie our Defense together is McClain. IMO Rolando is a Ray Lewis type player. I would be thrilled if we could some how sign Brandon Marshall...then draft McClain and Gresham. Suh is my top prospect, but I'm not sure I would take him and risk losing McClain, considering our dire need at MLB. My 2 cents.

Edit: the thought of Derrick Morgan playing opposite Wake gives me tingles.

McClain just stood up 350lb John Jerry on their goal line stand...and actually pancakes him backwards over his own player. Damn!

If Hardy is playing injured (what injury) I'm actually impressed. He's effective still, just no burst. I like Decker. Depends on what round. Love him in the 3rd/ Like him in the 2nd

I'd be all for that defense. I'm not too familiar with Derek Morgan, other than he's a junior and a pretty darn good pass-rusher - what round you think he'd go in if he enters?

Possible top 15....complete package NFL DE. I could see him transitioning to hybrid. When I watched Michael Johnson last year, I couldn't help but watching Morgan instead he's that good. He's playing in an hour if you get the game.

He's got a high ankle sprain.

Morgan looked awful against UM playing in the hybrid role. They had him as a stand up rusher and it was ugly.

He's definitely a work in progress as a hybrid. It can't be easy playing with very little front 4 help though. Tech's almost asking him to carry the entire weight of Dline on his shoulders.

A player I had completely forgotten about as a gap plugger is big Al Woods, the #1 rated High School DT. He's holding his own very well against UF's Oline so far....very explosive off the snap for his size, and agile too. Plays with good natural leverage. Taking on double teams well. Like a sperm bank nurse told Peter North, "Impressive specimen".

Edited.... He's definitely on my "potential Fins" DT list. Could be a mid to late round steal. He's the kind of guy who will probably play lights out during Senior Bowl week and end up a high 2nd rounder. LOL

Anthony Hernandez is such an interesting prospect. Absolutely love his game. Could you imagine going to a three tight end jumbo set and running the ball? Something like this below.

You could do wonders with a formation like that. Have Martin, Fasano and Hernandez all on the strong side, with Hernandez being an H-Back. You can motion out of that and confuse defenses, run the ball out of it, or pass out of it.

    True. Still a concern however.

Can we substitute Martin for Gresham? LOL

I agree, Morgan is still a concern as far as transitions go. He's absolutely wet behind the ears "standing up", so I'm not worried about him yet.

That's what I thought too but I recall someone saying we just placed him on the injured/reserve list and he's listed like that on Wiki.

I would definitely be a fan of Hernandez on this team. I think he would give you so many options. Henning's brain would explode.

Dunlap is not looking like a 1st round pick when he's lined up vs Ciron Black. IMO, He's not nearly the strength of Mario Williams coming out of NCState at roughly the same size. I see more of a potential bust than a Top 10 player at this point.

Added: don't mean for any UF fans to take "my" impression personally. LOL
