I should've started this thread earlier. I waited, hoping someone else would, but when you need something done right you should do it yourself.

Too bad I have to start this after the Mets clobbered us 7-2 on opening day. What a rout.

But hey, there are more pressing issues to talk about than one of 162 games! How about the new stadium--anyone seen architectural renderings of its design? Will Cameron Maybin be worth trading D-Train and Miggy "All You Can Eat" Cabrera? Are we trying to build a team for the future, or just fielding cheap talent while Jeffrey Loria orders more rolls of toilet paper made from $100 bills?

Oh, and there's also Jeff Conine's retirement as a Marlin. This guy is a class act through and through, and I'm glad he was part of both championship teams. Anyone think that he'll go into the Hall of Fame wearing a Marlins cap? Will he beat Gary Sheffield there?

Come on, all you South Florida sports fans. Let's talk about the baseball franchise sitting in your backyard for 15 years.

Not a Marlins fan and not intending to be a post whore but they need to get off our damn field!

I am a big Jeff Conine fan. "Mr. Marlin" indeed. There is no way imaginable that he gets into the Hall of Fame though.

Take it elsewhere. Huizenga takes the money he earns off the Marlins and puts it into the Dolphins.

I think there's a shot. It depends on which other players are being considered for the same class. He's not a lock the same way that, say, Gary Sheffield is. I consider him the Marlins version of Zach Thomas: he's on the bubble.

As much as I like Conine, there is no shot.

We'll see. I think there's an outside chance. Nothing more than that, though. I'm not trying to claim he's a lock.

Ramirez is a better hitter than Reyes, Reyes is ten times better in the field and more disruptive on the bases.

Ramirez falls asleep in the field as you saw yesterday twice.

The whole team falls asleep on defense. I'm beginning to attribute that to Fredi Gonzalez.

Last night, ESPN's front page had the Mets winning as the main story. Tonight, the Marlins' 10th inning win is a sidebar blurb.

Northeast bias. Tired of it. Screw that entire region of the country.

I find it nothing short of amazing that this team has won two WS titles with the way they trade players like its going out of style.

Its not entirely a Northeast bias it also has to do with the fact not many people care about the Marlins (besides Marlin fans) and they are supposed to be awful this season, the Mets also likely got the front page story because of Santana more then anything else.

i know they had some serious talent and all of a sudden they blew it all up
    i mean they had
    penny
    burnett
    beckett
    willis
    pavano
    for SP

I forgot about Penny just goes to show how much talent they have had their. I wonder if they will change how they do business when they move into the new stadium?

    maybe i dont know
i mean they did get hanley ramirez from boston in the beckett deal they also got anibal sanchez who threw a no hitter but i think he had TJ surgery or something

but from i have heard and read marlin fans are worried if they will have hanley or not by the time the new season opens

i mean if maybin becomes a star they could have a great nucleus of players they have to lock them up

and they also cant blow up a team after they succeed thats why fans are not coming, why would you come see a team that is great but you know will be blown up after the season?

they did this twice after the 97 season and after the 2003 season

So when the supposedly bad team wins, it's not important? :shifty:

Not according to ESPN besides Pedro being injured is more important then a Marlins victory.:wink2:

Exactly. I would love to be a Marlins fan, I went along the ride like most us during both championship years. But they blow the team up all the time, why bother? Everytime we develop good players, we give them away.

Most of this year's team was around last year, and the year before that. We have a lot of players who can be very good if developed properly. Hanley's going to arrive this season if he can shore up his defense, I think Dan Uggla is pretty underrated, Jeremy Hermida can be a slugger, and Mike Jacobs plays hard.

Marlins lose 13-0. What a total disaster. Thankfully I didn't have a chance to watch this game.

Blah the Marlins need to spend money, but its hard cause when they do they can't get fans into the seats! Hopefully things change after the stadium is built.

Ive said for years baseball is a catch 22 sport. You need money to put good product on the field, and good product on the field to make money. The Marlins owner should sell the team to someone capable of probably funding the franchise.

And to your point of a new stadium helping, it'll only help attendance for a few years at most. They're finding that out in Pittsburgh.

The Marlins owner put a lot of money into the team after they won the world series. Pitt has not been as successfull as the Marlins have been and its the ppl in South Beach also

Put money into the team? where? And which owner, Loria? And people on South Beach are ALOT less likely to goto a game then those in Pitt.

Mike Jacobs hits a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 9th to give the Marlins a 5-4 win. Decent game tonight, especially the double-blooper on the part of the Pirates.

Nice to see that this team can pull out some wins at home, unlike last year.

Top of the 8th, Marlins lead the Pirates 7-3. Mike Jacobs with a Grand Slam, Hanley with a lead-off home run in the 1st.

Edit: Marlins win 7-3 thanks to Jacobs' Grand Slam.
