Today the jets went down at home to the Bills in an ugly performance by the whole squad. I'd like to address Sanchez in particular. Although he did not single handedly lose the game, teams win and lose together, his performance with 5 INT's certainly was a major contributor. Imo this type of showing highlights the danger of starting a rookie QB in the nfl. The game is fast, schemes complex, mistakes costly. I think Sanchez will be a good QB for the jets in the future, he has the tools, but this was a mistake filled day for the kid. Our new QB Chad Henne has looked good in his first two starts. I believe the year he spent with pennington will help him to avoid this type of game. Getting to spend a year holding that clipboard and learning the game from the sidelines and in the film room can be very valuable to a player, especially a QB. I have no complaints with his play so far, he has made strong accurate throws, good touch throws, and one nice long ball. Seeing him go through his progressions and decide to check down, instead of trying to force the ball in kept us in position to win that game last week. Here's to Henne avoiding this type of disasterous rookie game this season, and continuing to grow and improve as the leader of this team.
I've never been high on Sanchez (even before he became a Jet) I was thrilled when they traded to get him. He honestly seems to me like a guy whos ceiling is average at best. He has poor mechanics and average physical skills. I expect these types of games from him now and in the future. Though probably not that many INT's again.
sanchez threw 5 picks. he clearly lost the game all on his own. There is a strong belief that sanchez works best outside of the pocket. If you force him to sit in the pocket and read a defense, he's going to struggle. Thats what happened today i believe, although i didn't watch the game, could be way off.
The past 3 weeks the Jets have sunk further and the Dolphins are climbing back up. We have a tough game against the Saints, however we're coming off a bye, it's outdoors in Miami, and we have a better run game and o-line then the Giants.
Is he still the "San-chise?" This game is just one you get starting a rookie QB. Really doesn't say anything about his future potential. I'm just happy people are starting to realize that idiotic nickname is a bit premature.
yeah I know but he's young. Now if he does it consistently, well then we know what we got..............
It could happen, Henne has a stronger arm and is not prone to throwing jump balls as Sanchex has become with Edwards on board. Young Qb's are rarely Flacco, Big Ben or Ryan, everyone would love to think that they are, but reality is, rookie/young Qb's make rookie/young Qb mistakes, throw in a rookie HC and the Nacho dealing with 40 degree weather and he was due for a bad performance.
I believe Schottenheimer played a huge part in the loss. They were gashing the Bills on the ground but kept abandoning the run.
I think Henne taking a year to learn behind Penny is huge. He knows to throw it away or at least check it down. Sanchez refused to throw the ball away today. He constantly chucked it up for grabs and was lucky to not have even more INT's including 2 pick 6's that were dropped.
In Mark Sanchez's defense, Rex Ryan kept touching the football with his nacho cheese covered fingers, causing Sanchez's INTs. Ryan thought it would be good luck after last week.
good to hear some thoughts, i'll edit the six ints, thanks for that. my real point is i hope henne can avoid this type of performance due to having a year in the league, and hopefully just being a better QB than Sanchez
yup, gashing them is right and then never followed through. The inept bills were on the ropes and the jests handed them game over and over.. should have stayed with the run.
Dirty Sanchez should have thrown two Picks against Miami. The picks Wilson & W Allen both dropped and on the Wilson pick there was a phantom Pass Interferance call. The refs almost caused the last game and I made Sanchez look great.
5 picks and they only lost by a field goal is the Jets D that good or is Buffalo that pathetic......good for us another win when we play them
I'd say it's a little of both. The Jets D is not the powerhouse that people thought they were. We notched up 31 on them and the Bills who struggled to put 3 on the Browns at home last week moved the ball against them. That's what happens when teams get to watch tape on a rookie QB.
Good point, in the AFC East u sorta need a Qb who has played in bad weather in college and has the arm to power a ball through those winds.
well I predicted Sanchez and Stafford would both be busts before the draft. Both have shown flashes of being able to be NFL QBs but they both have had really bad days. Still too early to say for sure which way it will turn out. I like Sanchez's ability to keep a play alive but I also see a QB that has scattershot accuracy and an average arm
Sanchez did not have his best performance-both teams appeared to not want to lose the game instead of trying to take controkl,it was a very windy day and the quatebacks had to battle the wind.
I wouldn't write em off yet. Afterall even Peyton started off with somewhere around 30 int's his rookie year (going off memory).
Peyton also had a great college career and great physical tools to work with (as well as mental ones)
The Bills lost all sorts of players to injury throughout the game, including their starting QB who was 5 for 5. The Jets lost Jenkins around half-time, but the Bills backup was playing soooooo crappily that it shouldn't have mattered. He was missing wide open receivers, the Jets should've blown 'em out.
I think the most important thing us dolphin fans need to worry about is, hopefully Henne does not do what Sanchez did... I mean Sanchez did great his first 3 weeks and now look at how he is playing... I think we should not give Henne the next Marino title yet, but i do say Henne has a huge advantage over Sanchez, because his running game will bail him out a lot. something dolphins have that Jets don't, plus i honestly believe Henne is the better QB of the two
The wind had alot to do with his int's but he made some mistakes. Cotchery should be back soon and that will help him out alot
I'd say yes, he can. If you look at Henne and Sanchez, Henne throws the ball away and checks down. Sanchez does not. Most of his INT's come from chucking the ball up for grabs rather than throw it away.
What I do not get is where the Jets fans are lauding him on his accuracy? Now do not get me wrong, Sanchez has made some tremendous NFL throws, especially with his ball placement. That does not make him accurate. If you look at his overall body of work, his accuracy is shotty at best. Combine his accuracy issues with his boneheaded mistakes, and you get games like the ones against the Saints and the Bills. I think Sanchez will be good, unfortunately. What might kill him is the NY media and his mental makeup. How does he bounce back after those games? I also think he does not understand that he does not need to necessarily win the games for his team. Regardless how much we hate the Jets, they have a pretty good team. They should have won that game yesterday. I'm fanatical that they did not. They are in a precarious position right now. Do they fold under pressure (esp. Sanchez), or do they come out swinging like a caged animal? It's gonna be an interesting year in the AFC East!
i really DON'T see Henne having a day like that ... 1- because he is better 2- he has much more starting experience (college) in a big time program, and in lousy conditions he very well may have a couple 2 INT games ... but 4 or 5 ... not gonna happen Sanchez is drinking thru the firehouse ... Henne is not ...
