Thanks. I see what you're saying. I have a bias towards the Ryan Clady types for the LOT position. Whenever I see a slow or unelite(is that a word lol) quick tackle I always put them at ROT

I really like him but I just saw one game from him this year if that one game was an indication. I swear he might be a top 3 or top 5 DT this year. He's that good. This is an awesome year for DTs BTW

The official pre- draft advisory committee which underclassmen apply to in the run up to the closing date for said juniors and redshirt sophomores. Personally I find the BLESTO and National figures to be very odd.

Finished up watching Oklahoma/Texas. Good for Trent Williams that he got injured because he was having a terrible game. But Ulatoski made him look like Anthony Munoz. There were two third quarter plays that I had to rewind because I couldn't believe my eyes. About 11 minutes left in the thirdn Auston English works him back 15 yards around the edge and gets the sack because Adam falls off the block. Then the next drive, he displays one of the great plays; he summarily fails to lift his handsn choosing instead to lean his head and neck into English as if he's falling asleep.

Colt is still a good QB but that was the worst game I've seen him play. But he's tough as nails and his accuracy and Steve Young type mobility will work in a classic WCO.

Sergio Kindle did what he always does for me which is flatter to decieve. Truth is, he's a great athlete, but he can't get off a block, can't dip his shoulder and get under a tackle and seems to make the majority of his plays because of the basic mistakes of others and not through his own play. I've seen Rod Muckleroy play better but I was again impressed with Lamarr Houston and the kid Clayton for Oklahoma. But aside from the two McCoy's, I was a little underwhelmed.

    Ah, I gotcha.

Agreed on BLESTO and National. They've always got a few grades that are head scratchers, such a the Russell Okung one where they gave him a fourth round grade.

Agreed on Kindle. Raw and immature IMO. He's got a lot to learn. I like Muckelroy.

This will be a big test for him!!

What an up and down game from Jevan Snead today against Arkansas. Made some quality throws but then made some very questionable decisions. He's pretty inaccurate outside the numbers and even had a one hopper.

Anyone watching UM who thinks Spiller is just a COP back not worthy of a 1st round pick by us? LOL
19 plays of 50 yards or more.... damn!! :D

I absolutely don't think he is worth our 1st round pick unless we don't resign Ronnie, and even then I wouldn't be sure.

I'm kind of curious what other people think, but I'm of the opinion Kindle might be better as a "true" linebacker than a DE or 3-4 OLB.

The college DE to 3-4 ILB conversion is the obvious one, but there have been less experienced and less athletic DEs converted into 4-3 OLBs. I think he might be best being used like Chris Gocong or Mathias Kiwanuka has been.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I didn't say he's my 1st choice, but if our other guys are on the board then I'll welcome him with open arms bc his presence would do nothing to not make our team more successful IMO.

We have much bigger needs (WR, TE, ILB, OLB, DT, S in no order) than spending a 1st rd pick on a running back (who might not even be 200 lbs).

So then you'd hypothetically prefer to reach 10-15 spots and leave Spiller on the board when Ricky will be retiring and Cobbs's future is unknown?

I think there's a real widely unconsidered can of worms over the Dolphins and the running back position next off season.

On one hand, the franchises philosophy isn't dropping high draft picks on a RB, and there's a big emphasis on between the tackles running here. We've probably got our top three under contract through next offseason at RB, and despite them doing a fantastic job using two RBs at once and using them in creative ways, the #3 guy wasn't getting a whole heck of a lot of touches.

On the other hand, I think there was some fire to the smoke that the Dolphins were interested in Percy Harvin, that while our big three might be under contract, there's enough inconsistency that there might not be two "strong" RBs on the roster which they need- Brown could be gone, Ricky could be too old, and Cobbs is coming off a serious injury, Spiller might not have the ideal makeup for this team, he's got crazy patience and stop start ability to run with this offense and the Wildcat.

How do you figure we would reach 10-15 spots? I have no idea how a BS number like that is pulled out.

I would much rather take a running back in rd 2 or 3 than Spiller in rd 1.

Considering you can get a quality runningback in the later rounds yes. No way in hell I would take Spiller with our pick.

that's not a BS number. You said you wouldn't take a RB in the 1st. There wont be 30 players available who meet our needs at the time we pick....so if our top targets are off the board and you're limiting us to only the positions of top need, then it's possible we'll be reaching.

hence the whole concept for drafting BPA, which as you know means that you take the best player rather than reaching for a less talented player to fill a need. We could end up in the position that Spiller is the BPA on the board.

A reach to you might not be a reach to this FO, it may just be their board.

You love Spiller, fine. Doesn't make him worth our first rd pick. Doesn't mean we'd be reaching to take someone else when Spiller is still on the board.

Dez Bryant, Brandon Spikes, Eric Berry, Rolando McClain are all players that can make a instant impact.

I want a position of need and RB is not a dire need.

wow. If it's that easy then we should just call dibs on them all right now. LOL. Forget that that there's 31 other teams and a draft order to follow.

Are there duplicates of the guys you mentioned in case another team gets a crazy notion of drafting them away from us. The nerve of them!! :tongue2:

Bc if this happens the BPA's might be CB, QB, LT, DE, or 4-3 DT. So like I said, would you prefer those positions over the best weapon in college football who might slide 8 spots....or does a team reach and draft 2nd round talent in the 1st round?

So you're saying our FO should completely leave Spiller off our board bc we can get a RB later on? That's a mistake. LOL

How do you know a RB we want will be available later at our picks without being forced to reach? So then we could be left potentially reaching twice. That's a road to mediocrity. ;)

I didn't say to leave Spiller off our board, or even that he should be left off because we can get a RB later on. That's not even close to what I said.

Again, things may be reaches to you, that doesn't mean it is a reach based on our FO's evaluation of players.

you got me there Stitch. ;). I shouldve said "arguably". LOL
There's much more than Spiller than meets the eye. He's a coaches dream and the consumate teammate/leader with unreal work ethic, and we need top talent on our team that lead by example. We also need an extra weapon on offense. Unlike a lot of backs, you can bring CJ in then motion him out wide and put a LB on him....and there's not a LB in the NFL who won't be 2 steps behind him after 20 yards, 15 for most. He's a game changer and another weapon that defenses would have to prepare against besides Henne and the WC....and he can also pass so if Ronnie goes down we don't miss a step, and he's smart enough to QB it. How about the field position advantage he gives us on special teams? This is all worth a lot more than your ordinary RB.

I see what you are saying Todd but I read this and I think, why not just take Dexter McCluster in the mid rounds and have the same versatility and options? I think a debate like this, between McCluster and Spiller, could end up being the same debate that was of Heyward-Bey and Mike Wallace. You were here during the draft process IIRC and a lot of us said, why take DHB when I can get arguably a better player in Mike Wallace three rounds later? I'm not saying McCluster is the better player than Spiller in this debate but I honestly am not sure there is much difference. It's one of those things that I would have to see play out because I don't have as much faith in Spiller as you may, for example. I still question his durability issues.

I also think that McCluster will be on our draft board and they are going to like him. Just not sure if they select him but it wouldn't surprise me. :)

Clausen again at home late in the game with very questionable decisions...they won that game despite him. Kid has no feel for the game, way to mechanical for the next level.someone is gonna make a big mistake if they take him in their first round..

TP, congrats on your victory today, didnt get to see it, spiller looked good eh?

C.J Spiller has wildcat specific skills...imo, hes on our board. not a priority, but on our board..another team would be very smart to take the kid and develope their very own hybrid..

Jerry Hughes played a good game today. Definitely in the mix for the OLB position. Also Norwood came back strong after last weeks poor game. He still has issues shedding blocks but he has speed and quickness. Bad angles sometimes and not always making the right reads but he's a speed demon

imo he should no doubt be invited to new york.

Comparing McCluster to Spiller is not something I wunderstand. McCluster is no where near as well rounded like Spiller. Spiller does so many amazing things and can do it all while McCluster does not have the size or skills to play in the NFL. I honestly don't think McCluster is anything more than a one trick pony. I would not be shocked if he doesn't even make an NFL roster. Wallace was alot more well round and had size for NFL.

Sorry Todd but I don't see Miami drafting Spiller. Good player, but not happening. Some interesting games yesterday. Watched back to back Alabama games and Rolando McClain is the best ILB in the nation. He's not the athlete that Spikes is, but his diagnosis, his read and recognition and his ability to make play after play is phenomenal. I don't think he's going to run faster than about a 4.8 but you'll end up with a DeMeco Ryans/Curtis Lofton type who just makes plays. Sticking with Alabama, Mike Johnson might be the best guard in the nation. He's quick and can turn his man inside and shows tremendous strength and good technique in the run game. In pass pro he bends his knees and fits like a dog with his hands. Cody is a very good player, a pocket collapser and a difference maker in the middle but he plays gassed at times. Two stunning blocks last night. It was like he simply wouldn't be denied. In last week's South Carolina game, there were two very good SS's players in Justin Woodall and the Gamecock's #17 whose name has totally slipped my mind...Chris...anyway, good players. Jerry Hughes played very well for TCU. Taped a couple of other games as well.

Chris Culliver is the South Carolina safety.

I tell you who's going to be a high first rounder next year or the year after is Marcel Dareus of Alabama. This kid is a stallion in the making.

Boom, you catch any Anthony Davis of Rutgers yet? Really like him but big issue with strength.

Not comparing their running styles, their versatility. His size doesn't bother me if I'm going to be using him in several ways of the game, not as a feature receiver or running back. A bit like Sproles, except with the ability to play the slot.

Last season Al, but not so far in '09. Have a game on the system though.

BTW - Eric Norwood needs a LOT of work as a run defender. He gets washed out again and again and plays far too high.
