Correction we ran routes that don't play to his strengths.

He is best when he is running under the ball. Again not a number 1 receiver but a deep threat that we lack on this team.

Running past people is only a threat if you do it often enough and can make more than just an easy catch.

What Dan says is pretty generic.....well yeah he could help us. How much and how often is another matter.

My opinion is that Ginn should focus on the return game for a while and work on the areas that limit him as a receiver....otherwise I don't see anything changing.

If anyone dropped as many passes that Ginn HAS when Marino was playing that person WOULD NEVER/EVER see a pass come his way

Marino would treat him like a red headed step child

Dan just doesnt want us to make the same mistake we made with Tony.

Thing is, Dan needs to look at himself in the mirror to remember who he is/was because he'd be in Ginns face so much already that he'd problably have made the coaches bench him a long time ago if not have completely torn his head off by now.

Right, because no Dolphin who ever played with Marino had 5 drops in a season.

Actually, I don't think he's jumping on any bandwagon. If I'm not mistaken, he and Don Shula were two former Dolphins who somewhat supported Ginn after last week. I remember reading that somewhere.

I seem to remember alot of our receivers dropping balls against Marino. It was frustrating to watch but I always atrributed it to the crazy velocity of some of his throws. I figured he broke enough finbgers in his career that he could forgive the occasional drop

I think that what Marino was saying is that we rode Tony Martin out of town on a rail because of his drops and he proceeded to go to the Chargers and become a really good receiver. He doesn't want us to repeat the mistake with Ginn; he's calling for patience.

What's funny is until just about two games ago, Ginn had GREAT hands. He has never been prone to dropping balls.

Have any of you ever thought that maybe he just is having a rough stretch.

So when Ginn drops balls, he needs to be cut, and other guys need to start. When Bess drops balls, and fumbles three balls in two games, people still call for Ginn to sit? Give me a break.

agreed. Ginn may not have made any plays to help us beat the saints, but bess tried his hardest to make us lose against the jets.

You can disregard their comments, it's not like they know anything about.....you know....football or anything. :pointlol:

If that isn't an endorsement for patience, I don't know what is.

That's a fact that gets lost in all of the "OMG!". Ginn was pretty damn reliable before this recent spell, rather than give him a chance to right himself, folks are too quick to send him to the gallows.

with dan on this team ginn would probably have 3-5 more TD´s and would average 17 yards per catch

I think Marino may mean Ginn could distract the defense at least some opening other parts of the field. And become even more of a threat if his skills mature.

The issue I had with Ginn wasn't just drops. That ball is coming in way faster than we on our couches reallize so I can handle a few drops. When they get frequent at critical times I start worrying. I like Bess but lately he has me worried. A large part of Ginns recent trend to worry me was he didn't seem to have heart or guts. We all saw him lie down or run out of bounds a few times. He didn't do that Sunday. He juked and and kicked it in gear. And as great as the returns were I also loved seeing him get hit and get up smiling. He had fire and heart. He didn't lay down they had to knock him down. That says a lot to me. I would guess that the great receivers are able to completely ignore the guys racing to kill them and just focus on the ball. Just a guess.

My hope is Ginn will continue to mature, that Bess will come out of his slump, that Hartline has skills to add to the mix. I don't want an offense to depend on one guy. I want there to be multiple threats. They don't have to be superstars. Just move the chains. Add to that a more solid secondary and joy.

But let's dis-regard the comments of former fins that actually played WR, right?

Like Marino said, he is what he is...which is mostly just fast.

    He's not mis-used, mis-treated or mis-understood.......he plays WR like a "miss"

    Santonio Ginn Jr.?

Ginn reminds me of Santonio Holmes. He is predicted to have a breakout every year but just doesn't achieve it. In Pitt, Ward is the clear cut #1 and Holmes is a nice addition. I'm thinking we could get a number 1 like a Boldin and turn Ginn into a Holmes like receiver. Holmes uses his return skills to take short passes to the house and he is a deep threat.

i think thats the plan, the question is how much of a priority is it since we have other needs like OLB, ILB, TE and NT. Dez Bryant and Ginn would be a great combo. Bryant whenever you need to keep the chains moving and Ginn for the occasional home run. Throw in Turner for the red zone and Hartline for the intermediate possession routes and Bess for the slot and you have a complete receiving corps

True.....those 100 yd TD receptions of his are hard to compete with. Oh wait, those were KR's, he had 0 catches. :shifty:

Give Hartline the same chance that you're so worried about Ginn getting. It was one game....

well since we cant compare catches ginn beat his coverage deep twice in the game. hartline onlyy once. like i said. ginn is twice the receiver hartline is :tongue2: besides i'm all for hartline starting, opposite ginn where he belongs. yes call me crazy but i'm not a big fan of one receiver sets

Hartline started (getting his chance) and had 0 receptions (which you just made fun of Ginn for).

    Fail.
