Ok it's just speculation, and the article does say it's not likely, but just possible. But some of the stuff is intriguing, because, well, it's Parcells.

Before we get on with loyalty, integrity etc., keep in mind Parcells is at the end of the day, a weasel. Look no further than what he did to Atlanta and Blank, for the evidence of that.

While I think we will be fine without him, it's better to have him, of course.

I think Bill has done everything the Phins have asked of him...and we'd be just fine without him at this point, IMO. Tuna loves being in South Florida...so trading Cleveland for South Florida would be a big change imo....but..if he goes...he's earned it.

Great... Isn't it early for articles like this? Don't these normally not start till the offseason? I really don't think Bill is going anywhere... As you said, just an awful lot of speculation. I wish I could get paid to write junk like that.

This speculation has occurred for a while now. Ever since Parcells clause in his contract came in effect. Not gonna happen. If anything, Holmgren goes to Cleveland, and he'll want to buy his own groceries.

He's leaving his options open. That being said however, he's made enough money in his lifetime that I don't think a few more dollars is going to buy and sway him. He's more interested in solidifying himself as one of the perennial minds in football, and that's his legacy.

I think he realizes that, and once we're a championship team, he might find another place to roost. Till then though I'm pretty sure he'll be about.

If Parcells wants to fly off like Mary Poppins on his magic umbrella, he's welcome to it.

Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland should be self sufficient, and if they are not, the quicker we find out and replace them, probably the better for the overall health of the franchise.

And well, nothing like cranking up wild speculation early.

Disagree, and not out of fanboy loyalties, Tuna has backed out of one "deal" where a contract was involved and that was in Tampa Bay and it was due to a heart condition, the other places he has left he did so cleanly.

He was run out of Dallas by Jerruh "thanks for restocking the roster, you may go now" in NY his contract was up, in NE he clashed over organizational control, as for the Atlanta deal, Wayne H made him a better offer than Blank did, no different than if Parcell's was a prized FA OLB, best deal won.

His current deal allows him to declare himself a FA and pocket 12 million dollars in the process, he can leave whenever he wishes. Though I do believe the minority ownership stuff is being hyped for no apparent reason, Tuna is the VP, what would he care if JLo was a minority owner?

If anything as a responsible VP Tuna's job would be to look at attendance numbers in 2008 v 2009 with the new gameday approach.

As for Cleveland, not seeing it, Tuna is what 71? Why move to a cold weather high tax state? As well as Tuna stays at least 3 yrs at every stop he has made in the NFL.

    :dunno:

Have to wonder if some of Sparano's oddball calls have been a product of the Big Tuna backing away a bit and not interjecting to offer strategy advice, to me Sparano needs a Ray Handley "Clock Czar" type of coaching position.

    Parcells goes no where:
    1) doesn't need the Money
    2) he likes living in Miami
    3) he is surrounded by admirers & personal friends
    4) has total control of football operations w/o ownership complications
    5) the Dolphins are fast becoming the centerpiece jewel in his NFL crown of glory
that will elevate him to the legendary status of Shula & Lombardi

the Big Tuna stays with the Pod:yes:Bill Parcells has become a Dolphin

You guys forget his ego man. His rep as a savior is already cemented in stone. If he goes and turns around a crappy franchise like the Browns? He's not just an angel he's a deity.

I wouldn't put it past him.

Oh and Padre, you're making a distinction that is not there. He wouldn't be breaking a contract. His contract right now allows him to leave as he wishes, that is not a breach.

The board members would turn on Bill so fast if he left after this season that it would make your head spin.

Now, having said that, I think Bill probably feels that this team is at least another year away from being set up to run freely without him. As others have said, there are a ton of reasons for him to stay and only a few for him to leave. It is up to Bill as to which ones carry the most weight.

I think the silent contributor in all of this is Ireland. I truly believe that he has done a tremendous job as the GM and probably deserves some of the credit that Bill has gotten. If Bill DID leave, I am comfortable with Sparano and Ireland running the football side of things.

Anything is possible, but I don't think it's likely. I think that Parcells, at his age and at this stage in his career probably enjoys spending his days playing golf and tinkering with team as little or as much as wants more than he would value the additional millions and having to start the process again in Cleveland. I don't think he'd see that as a challenge as much as a PIA.

Just my own speculation on this. I think, with our offense still without a go to receiver (either at the wideout spot or the TE), a young quarterback stepping in and stepping up and a defense that still has some holes ot be fixed, that Bill probably looks at this team as a whole and views it as incomplete.

Again, just my opinion, but I would be willing to bet that Bill is here for at least one more year to see the fruits of his labor (i.e. Henne established as a bonafide starter, the young guns on defense stepping up, etc.) After Bill helps giving Miami the pieces to the puzzle, I think he can walk away clear of mind that it is up to his disciples to put those pieces together without him.

All of the things that you believe need to be fixed are the job of people who Bill already established. He has less to do now than he did during the first year. In fact, the only reason he has to stay is that he just likes being in this cushy advisitory role.

Also another reason is if next year Miami wins a superbowl then Bill gets to be a part of that. However I do not know what Bill likes more, being a superbowl champion or being someone who buillds franchises

Not a chance this happens. Parcells could easily end up leaving, but for the right situation.

Golf in Florida trumps anything Cleveland has to offer...

Now, if Tampa came calling? Or San Diego? Or Houston? I could see it...

I disagree that we'll never bring in that big WR with Parcells here. I put that in the same category as "we'll never draft Jake Long #1 with Parcells here".

I think one of his strongest on going contributions is the cache he has with potential FAs. So almost any FA we target is more likely to come here while he's on board. That being said, I think we'd be fine even if he left, but he's still an asset.

The only thing that would scare me if Bill left would be him raiding our coaching staff and FO for talent in his new gig.

Having said that, I think he stays. He seems content IMO

There's no way in hell Parcells would let the presence of a woman who goes by "Fergie" sway his football decisions.

    This article is pure conjecture.

BP's history of leaving teams after he's been there for a short time is well documented. That said those were a much different man. He was younger then and maybe still felt he had a lot to prove. He has since won not one but 2 SB championships. How many franchises does he need to turn around for people to view him as one of the greatest football minds of this era?

He doesn't have anything to prove that he hasn't, but I think he wants to go out with a bang. If he leaves that makes it harder for him because he'd have to start over again. That and we need a few key pieces that he'll want to be around for us to draft (LB and TE's are his speciality).

Why would Parcells leave a job, a position that he designed and created for himself. If he leaves, he leaves, he will be giving up his ultimate job and the autonomy to do what he wants, when he wants and how he wants to. He can probably work when he wants to and for how long he wants to. He most certainly can play golf when he wants to, be kind of tough to play golf in Cleveland in the winter.

he can probably create this position at any stop he makes, if he does leave. that's not an argument.

The golf thing is intriguing if it weren't for the countless players coaches and personnel that work in cities not named Miami or San Diego. Maybe he hates the humid weather :tantrum:

If he did this, it would be purely for the love of the game. If you're annointed a franchise saver, and you have the humongous ego Parcells has, what do you do? You go and save franchises.

I'm not saying he's leaving, or it's likely he will. But the weather/golf arguments just aren't compelling on their own.

Bill, of course, will do whatever he likes but as long as Ross keeps his hands to himself I believe Bill will stay. He is a driven man and wants to be seen as the best of the best what better way to do it than by getting the Miami Dolphins back to their years of glory under Don Shula. That fact is the one thing that the Falcons or anyother team can NOT offer and why I believe, once Wayne H. came calling, he jumped at the chance and why he will NOT leave until there's another SB ring on his finger. Dallas had the chance but Jerry blew it big time IMHO, I'm betting Ross won't, remember Bill was there for four too!
