I always thought bans were based on the detecting pirated games and not the hacked firmware itself. It looks as if the latest ban hammer did in fact detect modified firmware. I don't know for a fact but even if that is the case, there appears to be a fix on the horizon.

For every action, there is a reaction. It was only a matter of time.

Ah this is what I was mentioning to Mor a while back. Unfortunately though it seems like the actual results aren't that hot.

It'll never end. Modders constantly find ways to get past the system, and Microsoft tries to stop it. Vicious cycle.

Lite Touch wont unban consoles...from what I have read its really just the next version of "stealth" firmware...like iXtreme was supposed to be. I'm sure it'll work for a year or two.

Like mor said...Microsoft will find ways to stop what the modders are doing and the modders will find new ways to do what they want. Once the security on a system has been breached the cat is out of the bag and any attempts to circumvent that breach, short of major hardware changes, will eventually be beaten. Why do you think we don't see PS3's with PS2 hardware anymore? Sony would say its because of cost but the truth is modders had begun to figure out how to exploit the PS3 through the old PS2 hardware.

Speaking of Sony...kudos to them. I don't think anyone expected the hypervisor to be as difficult to crack as it has proven to be.

I've heard rumors that there are some Asian (Japanese I believe) hackers overseas that have cracked the hypervisor and are modding their PS3's but they are currently keeping it a secret.

And it's Microsofts own damn fault the 360 is getting hacked. Had they done what Sony did there would be no problem.

Wait so if you're banned you can't do that either? I thought you just couldn't access Live stuff.

Nope they pretty much shut down your hard drive. Any games you saved on the HD will not work and I think I heard if you try to put it on another console your saves won't work as well. Not too sure on that last one though.

If you save anything to your HD after the console gets banned, the profile who saved games on the banned console is effectively neutered. Any saves from the banned console, and the profile itself are not allowed to be used from that hard drive on a clean 360.

Not true people. I already recovered my profile and saves on a legit 360. You have to delete your profile and recover it via XLB on a clean 360. Some saves are lost (Dragon Age :( ) but most were fine. There are tools to help recover the corrupt saves like Dragon Age, but it requires an HDD extractor tool.

Are you sure saves made after the console was banned aren't lost (as in unable to load)? Because it sure seemed that way on mine.

Depends on how the developer saves games. Dragon Age is an example of a game that I lost my saves. Brutal Legend, GTA4, Forza3 and most of my games seems to be fine.

No they dont. Someone getting screwed over implies that the victim was innocent and had something undeserved happen to them.

Modding is not allowed on Live, everyone knows this. If people chose to mod their console then they should understand the risk that comes with it and have no right to ***** when Microsoft bans then exactly like they have said they will.

I feel the same way about speeding. We all know its not allowed but from time to time I do.... But I do it with the knowledge that if I get caught then I am going to have to pay and fine and it will be no ones fault but mine.

Um, other way around. People playing "backups" are the ones doing the screwing, Microsoft are just protecting their assets.
I've no problems with them taking away functionality like installing to the HDD and locking the game saves to the banned console ID.
The last ban wave wasn't that much of a deterrent considering you could still get achievements on the banned console and move them to an unbanned one for upload to LIVE. This ban has peeved so many off because they actually need to buy or rent a game now to get achievements plus the Xbox has gone back to sounding like a jumbo jet taking off.
Personally I think this is like a Xbox1 moment were you just couldn't go on LIVE with a chipped/hacked XBOX, same thing for the 360. Even when iXtreme LT comes out you may get a few months before they get the hammer out again, probably just in time for another big launch.
