so did i...before the injury. I know it's hard to believe a guy who came back strong from an acl tear might not be able to come back strong from an ankle injury, but i'd be afraid to hand him the millions he'd get in FA. Glad i'm not in charge. that's all i'll say. Our offense certainly is missing him though. We just can't make up that extra 70-100 yards we're used to getting from him.
It will be tough to come to a fair price and length for Ronnie. That will be the hurdle in my opinion. He's proven to be unique (best WC player in the league), productive and a very coachable guy. Without any of the off field issues. Then his durability will come into question. There's no real precendence to set his contract value (term and amount) when his agent and the phins discuss his deal. If the dolphins assess his value of what they can afford it will be Browns interpretation of whether it is too low or not or how much his agent could realistically get on the open market. It will also come into play how much ronnie would want to stay in Miami, which i'm sure is high. It could go sideways at any point of negotiations though, just given the uniqueness of his ability and situation. If he didn't get injured this year then it would be a different story as the phins would be more than willing to spend big bucks to keep him. Hopefully when they negotiate everyone has the same expectations. I would love to see brown extended for 3-5 more years.
This is a little off topic, but what is the link for mobile phones? I didn't know that was available.
anything is possible would like to see the tandem signed & delivered before the of the season only the FrontOffice knows
Probably tagged for 1 yr and than let go. Sad but he has had problems staying healthy and is getting close to 30
There will be no new CBA, so Ronnie will not be a FA for another year. We will keep him or, possibly consider a trade. I believe we will see more trades this coming off season than any in the history of the NFL, and Ronnie, expiring contract and injuries included, will still have a very high value. The available FA's, with few exceptions, are dismal at best. It's kinda funny that teams will have no cap, and nowhere to spend the money. To get that missing piece or two, they will have to give up picks. I really look forward to what's to come in the off season. By past comparisons, WE AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET!
Ronnie ain't going nowhere... I just don't see this regime who has put together an offense built off of Ronnie's strengths and we're DEFINITELY missing him! The only way I would not mind seeing him go is if we got a COUPLE proven players for him; RB and WR...
I love Ronnie, but I can't see this regime signing him to a long term deal. As I have said many times before I think franchising him is the best option. Last year this number was ~ 6.7mil for RBs. The fact of the matter is Ronnie is injury prone. I know I've heard many songs and dances that they are not the same injury and just freak things, but regardless he gets hurt every season for at least a couple games. Hes approaching 30 and I believe he is one of the most dynamic players in the NFL, but a long term big money contract could really hurt the franchise, even more then letting him walk after next year. There's a reason there is a franchise tag, and for once we have a player worth using it on.
He turns 28 in 10 days. So he would only have 2 seasons. Besides that me and Jim both suggested a franchise if there is a new CBA and that would make him 29 after that year which yes is close to 30 and he would be too old for a Long term deal.
Who missing him and were, Ricky and lex have done great 792 yds by ricky and 100 yds plus games, are you even watching the games Ronnie will probably ask for big money and he is not going to get it here. When was the last time he finished a season ? Dont mind signing him but not at starter money.
We can't expect Ricky to carry the full load for much longer. I think he'll be ok splitting carries for a couple years if he decides that he does want to play longer, but it would be silly to go into next year with a 33 year old running back and expecting to give him 25 carries a game. Anyone know anything about his agent Todd France? I don't recall Ronnie holding out when he was drafted, so hopefully he's a reasonable guy.
Have you been watching the games recently? Based on your post, I've concluded no. Our run game is fine, its our defense that cost us the Bills game and almost again against Carolina. In the last 2 games without Ronnie, Ricky had a combined of 234 rushing yards and 4 total touchdowns. How can you logically come to the conclusion that "we're DEFINITELY missing him"?
You said there was no difference between an ankle and a foot Maybe the poster feels the same about 27 compared to 30
Well, Ronnie B will be a Dolphin in 2010, there will be no CBA. And we have some key areas to fill I'd prefer to have Running Back be one less area that needs attention, especially with Lexxy playing well in his backup role.
I think Ronnie is franchised if there somehow is a new CBA; but honestly I wouldn't be opposed to getting some draft picks for him if some team is actually willing to pay his RFA tender. That said, I think Ronnie will be a Dolphin through 2010, but after that I'd love to see Mark Ingram brought in via the draft.
there was no difference about the injuries cause all i meant was that both could be fatal for a running back. Being 27 means he has at least 4-5 good years of football in him. Being 30, which is a 3 year difference, means he'd have 1-2. Big difference.
Well now we all no Ronnies age,his career is going to be a question for several months. I liked the idea franchise tag. Belacheat would find the money if we dont. Now that would be ugly.
i do believe that RB will be a PHIN next year ... beyond that - who knows ... we have identified our primary weaknesses and will address them via FA and the draft. Some of the pieces we need will be available in FA. next year is the year we go for the prize.
I know that Ricky is doing well, as he has done all season but this offense is better with Ronnie on the field. Ricky is good, but one dimensional. Ronnie should be used more as a receiver going forward considering he's got the best hands on the team. Ronnie is a better blocker as well as the WildCat... Point being, Ricky is good, Ronnie is better. Sure he does get hurt but he was running hard all season too. Bigger, Faster, Stronger, just like the regime motto.
Ronnie Brown in my opinion has been a major disappointment, in his 5 years of playing he's missed a part of 2 seasons due to injury, that's nearly 1/2 of his career. He's not a game breaker or a major threat and the only game that stands out where he performed really well was against the Patriots when the Dolphins ran the "wildcat" formation. He has a decent 4.4 yard per carry, but for being such a high draft pick, he's been an under achiever. I compare him to Terry Kirby, who I believe played for us for like 3 years, averaged slightly under 4 yards a carry and hung around the league on various teams for like 7 more years. My opinion of Ronnie Brown, whether some agree with it or not, got me banned from another Dolphins board, which I was a member for 8 years. Regrettably, d-1
