Quick question. Do you think the 72 Phins team would against us if we were undefeated? I think they would. Just wondering.
Kooch and Mercury Morris maybe.....lol I believe most of them would support it because doing it twice, pretty much buries that record.
I'm sure they would, but they'd be a lot less upset if we did it over someone else. Me, I don't care much either way. Nothing can take away from what the team accomplished.
i'm certain they would root for us. I think in a way they would like to pass the torch but only to someone wearing aqua and orange
Its very possible with Indy and New Orleans still undefeated and both having not so hard schedules left that they may be passing the torch sooner then they might hope. I hope not ...but just saying
I'm not going to go look it up right now, but how many #1 seeds in the conf. has gone on to win or even make the Super Bowl? Also, since the Super Bowl is in Miami this year, it would be kind of funny (in a sh!tty way) if Indy or NO did it.
Oh crap....I hope not Man I forgot the show was in town this year. Damn it Now we have to win out.......aye.....no problem
no no no this is a fill in the verb thread......masterfully done IMO.....the thread has the ability to go in multiple directions depending on what verb you fill in
personally I would prefer someone roll through undefeated...maybe a Saints/Colts undefeated SB. I am even tired of hearing about the 72' season every year. It was a great season but as a fan of 38 years...I say win something for us NOW
I think the old team would be proud to see these guys bring it home again. They all still support the team in one way or another.
Heavy sigh!!! I really don't think I have to defend my feelings about the perfect team, but I have to say something. We are the ONLY franchise with this record. We fought hard for it, we won it all, no one else has done it. It's part of what makes the Miami Dolphins who they are. It does not take anything away from this new team or the coach. It's a record I hope I never see broken. The older guys deserve all the press they get and should always remain proud. How many other teams have practically a whole roster of older players that still support and love their team? IF another team should do it, they will be the SECOND team to do so. We will always be the first and the best. I love those old guys. They gave me such memories and fun football games. So, again, I say, let us older folks be proud, make our posts about them, love them and cheer for any team that can't make it like we did. It doesn't hurt anyone. We've stuck with this team through the best and the worst of times, so IMO, we will always have bragging rights. And if people don't like it, just don't read any of the threads about it.
That's ridiculous.....being proud of that accomplishment and not wanting to see it repeated is hardly living in the past. I mean jeez, did Csonka snub you for an autograph once or what?
no, actually I have an autograph of his from when I was a kid. Sorry, it just get tired of hearing it ever year as we fall out of the hunt
I would be very disappointed with the 72' team if they didn't support another Dolphin team that went undefeated.
This team is not living in the past. I guarantee you the 1972 Dolphins are the last things on their mind. Whether or not the 1972 Dolphins remain the only undefeated team has no bearing whatsoever on what happens with the current Dolphins. Except for the fact that maybe it sometimes motivates the Dolphins to play a little better if they face a team challenging the record, e.g. the 1985 Bears. And that, IMO, is a good thing. I completely understand being more concerned with the goings on of the current Dolphins. I don't think anybody on this board would disagree with you. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't still be proud of great accomplishments of the past. Why burn down the past because you're pissed at the present?
Exactly. When somebody eventually does get the record, we'll get to hear plenty about how they're unquestionably the better undefeated team. How we only played 17 games. How our players were slower and smaller than today's. Basically everything short-sighted that goes into emasculating past greatness. I, for one, will never be ready for it. But who's living in the past? The '72 team? The last of those guys retired like 25 years ago. What else are they supposed to recount? Mercury Morris can be obnoxious about it, but that's not good enough reason for me to want the record equaled. Me, I'd prefer the record remain intact and the current team continue getting better, which it appears to be doing. As to the topic, I have no doubt they'd be rooting for us. More than a lot of teams, this franchise welcomes the old players back and to be present and visible. These guys are alumni. They care about this team. You hear they and non-'72 alumni speak out from time to time when the team is bad. It's family to them. They are proud group. And they want this team being the best it can be.
This 2009 team isn't living in the PAST. (nor is the fan base) This is a FRANCHISE RECORD not 2009 team moment. This 2009 team can make its own history....but no one should ever poo poo what the '72 team did for this Franchise. And yes, the '72 team would welcome another DOLPHINS team to join them as a next door neighbor in PERFECTVILLE, USA! I would go so far as to wager...that if a future DOLPHINS team is the only remaining non-loss team for a given season, the '72 team would pop Champagne when all other NFL team took a loss and celebrate that week, and not wait to see if current DOLPHINS team takes loss. They would welcome a family member in the neighborhood - they dont root for another FRANCHISE to join them.......and neither should we.
72 team this is your notice get the champagne on ice. also ftr, i would hope the 72' team would root for any dolphins team to go undefeated.
How can a real Dolphins fan say they are "tired of hearing about the 72 team"? I mean seriously. Al Bundy....CMON MAN!!! ps. Who dat? Who dat? Who dat gone beat tha Saints?
