at least as far as Ricky is concerned, it will .... it always has - so there is no reason to assume it won't. i'm not bashing Ricky ... its just something he has always had a problem with - he can't fix his genetics. we can hope that he limits them ....
This has always been an issue with Ricky... However, it seems like he has been doing a better job of holding on to the ball recently.
It's amazing how Ricky Williams contribution (since Ronnie was injured) has been ignored league wide. If we entered the season with him as the starter, EVERYONE would have been saying something negative about 32 year old legs. In 4 of our last 5 games he has rushed for over 100 yards. Between rushing and passing, he's already over 1000 yards. Compare and contrast these stats to those of Marcus Allen's first year in Kansas City. It was year 11 for Allen. His yards from scrimmage for the year totaled 1002. Marcus Allen made the pro bowl that year. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I have not been watching enough NFL network or ESPN or Fox. But I can honestly say that I have heard nothing more than a squeek (from the national media) about a 32 year old running back averaging 4.9 yards per carry and 9.4 yards per reception in 2009. Patrick Cobbs - Gone Ronnie Brown - Gone The shame of it all is that the team is receiving no help from the preseason stud, Lex Hilliard. In the past two games, dude has averaged 2 yards per carry. It's time for the young guy to step up because it would seem that the old man is doing all he can for the team.
Meh, that was an ugly game between us, resulting in a lost blowout both ways . If we had capitalized on half of those fumbles, it would be a pretty hefty gap on our part. On the other side of the spectrum, had you capitalized on half of those possessions and not fumbled, it would have been a fairly large gap the other way.
Spot on analysis, Zod. In fact, I put together a list of what 32 year old running backs have done before and after in their career ... and statistically the guy he compares to is Allen. The minimum was 8000 yards rushing, which Ricky has. Here's the full grid, so you can get an idea of what he's doing. Keep in mind these stats are from earlier in the year, shortly before he took over for Ronnie. What's most impressive is his YPC ... far and away the highest of anyone on this list. It's gone down a bit, but he's approaching 1000 yards ... which would be 4th on this list behind Allen, Emmit Smith, Warrick Dunn, and Jerome Bettis. If Ricky plays next year I fully expect to see him get another 500 to 600 yards ... which would put him third on this list. Williams is in a unique situation; as you can see from the data he's received the third fewest carries going into this season ... so he's actually well rested, despite getting ran into the ground by former coach Dave Wannstedt.
Forget pads, you have to put a helmet on a Battering Ram and swing it at the players. Although, as this video shows, even that would be no comparioson to actually geting hit by a linebacker like Ray Lewis.... I know. That blew my mind. I was like "he'll never get through the damned door without getting to run for a bit first". Then he took two steps and splintered the damned door. Crazy. Helps you understand why it's hard for a player to hang onto the ball when a linebacker puts his helmet on it.
