This is the age of the College Head Coach Free Agent, they supposedly cannot pay players, they can pay Coaches. College football is losing the greater portion of it's nobility.
Dear God living in East Tennessee is really going to suck for the next few weeks. Oh well there goes the recruits...I guess karma sort of bit Tennessee for hiring this guy. Somewhere Al Davis is laughing in his dungeon.
Wow, he talked about how devoted he was to taking the football program into the right direction, like he would have been there for quite a while. So much for that idea.....
He couldn't hack it in the SEC. This will be he and Orgeron's 2nd stint with USC. Orgeron is not the best coach, but he is one helluva talent evaluator.
Orgeron is I agree one hell of a recruiter and talent evaluator...but he is not a bad coach and has developed some serious talent....his BIG problem is he is about as subtle, classy and well mannered as a t3rd in a punchbowl.
UT..got Sabanized!! There was actually a time when *gasp* College Football was a worthwhile endeavor, now they act as if they are the minor leagues of the NFL, to me it is a pity, College Football is going the way of College Basketball.
CFB is made for TV...from the flags, to the votes that will determine who plays on what weekend undefeated for big tv dollars....why fight it...take the money and screw it.....UT will never have the appeal of UF/LSU/Bama so in essence you are going to have to play 12 in those games anyway.....and yes I REALLY believe that ....... if this year does not make that real clear then we watched different games. Texas got both ends two years in a row, screwed by beating OU and getting screwed out of NC game and then the gift of another second on the clock from the Russian judge/referee when they got beat by Nebraska..........
The thing of that is UT could easily compete with USC talent and opportunity wise, it is not Boise or TCU, Kiffen's sleazy recruiting tactics and "we gonna be singing Rocky Top all night long" schtick was pure cheeseball. But that is where college football is, Pro Wrestling like.
Yeah one thing Don that I think everyone is overlooking is that although Tennessee looks foolish right now what does it say about USC that they were so desperate for a coach that they went after Kiffin. They had Riley at OSU turn them away, Del Rio, and even Jeff Fisher turned them away and its safe to bet Sarkisian at Washington did as well. Now USC who also runs a sleazy athletic department much like UT had to go this far down the list to find a coach. That's not much to be proud of in my eyes. Personally I think Kiffin will fit in great at USC because he fits their style and he will recruit with the best of them. We'll have to see what he can do as head coach but from what I saw at Tennessee with a team with good talent he can put a contender together. I'm nut sure if a NC contender but definitely for top Pac-10 team. He has a lot to prove before I say he is a NC caliber coach but I believe he has potential from what I saw. No matter though how he is as a coach USC will keep on getting great talent.
Lane Kiffin is so lame he has to bring his father with him to try and make himself a success how lame is that? Monte Kiffin is a bonafide real good Coach, his use of the Tampa Two changed the NFL, Lane has done nothing but jilt everywhere he landed.
I think the big question is what does this do to UT and USC recruits? Does it effect any other non committed recruits?
