Really, one of the most in your face plays in NFL history is when Moss is 3 yards behind the CB and he’s raising his arm to sat he’s open down field, lol. 0:58 second mark.

Moss is the second best offensive player I've ever seen after Dan.

JSN not having this kind of stuff around him might make that $40 million seem even better after Puka signs.

No other player than JSN for Seattle had more than 600 yards receiving. They were 28th in pass attempts but 8th in passing yards. He was at 11 yards per target on 163 targets. Dude was the entire passing offense. Put up basically what Tyreek did in his first two seasons here and he's only 23. You either pay him $40+ mill a year or he walks (after franchise tag I guess).

I've recently gotten into bourbon and Buffalo Trace is currently my favorite, although its difficult to find in my area. However, I stumbled upon a bottle of their Eagle Rare the other day which I am anxious to try.

Eagle Rare deserves most of its hype imo. Really good for what it is so I think you'll like it. I like most Buffalo Trace. Luckily we see a lot of it in Memphis but it's still overpriced. The Staggs are worth trying if they're not too overpriced. EH Taylor single barrels can be really good.

I always had a connotation that Wild Turkey and Jack Daniels were bottom shelf whiskey. And I didn't like them at first when I started getting into bourbon. But they're probably my two favorite distillers now. Their special releases are some of my favorites of all time (Russell's Reserve 15 and Jack Daniel's Tanyard Hill Rye). But even their shelfers like Wild Turkey 101, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, and the Jack single barrels are really good. You can try the latter two for around $50-60 and not be too annoyed if you're not into them.

Bourbon fan myself, no idea why, never could acquire a taste for Scotch. Don't even like the smell of it for some reason. Then again, might be from some late nights with my 1st wife's uncle shooting Johnny Walker straight until the bottle was gone. :laughy::laughy:

What bourbons do you usually drink? I think I've settled on Wild Turkey being my favorite distiller. But I've found bottles I really like everywhere. Favorite of last year might've been Knob Creek 21.

My brother-in-laws both collect bourbon - significantly more than I, I like scotch better - but they always seem to give New Riff Distillery a bit of a bad rap. I thought it was great!

I've heard mostly good things about New Riff. I need to give it a try.

I went through the phase of collecting as much of the hyped bourbon I could. I've settled on Wild Turkey as my main distillery of choice and try to be more selective with what I buy.

Maybe JES and Hafley really love Malik Washington and Greg Dulcich lol.

Barry Jackson reporting that the Broncos are taking on the whole Waddle contract. I know the Tua money is extreme but even considering that it seems like they're taking an extreme approach to compensating for that hole it creates in the cap. They better be right about Malik otherwise that stadium is going to be half empty come November.

The Dolphins now have the worst WR room in the NFL, probably by a good margin. I'm not sure how that's good for Willis. Maybe they go out and sign Jennings, which helps a bit, but I don't see how this is a good thing for Willis, or how you don't spend at least one, and probably two early picks on WR.

Yeah I don't understand how this isn't a bad thing for Malik. The entire history of the league suggests you're going to get worse production out of your QB when you degrade his receivers. From Marino to Brady to damn near everyone suggests it. We're left hoping *checks pro football reference* Bobby Slowik can scheme our way around this.

Initial reaction is I don't like it. He's not that old. He's not a character problem that we know of. He's shown he can be productive in various ways. Not sure what the cap situation is but it can't be that bad. And frankly I don't trust the Green Bay guys to find WRs.

I'm sure I'll feel better about it as time goes on but damn, they're really putting a lot of faith in their ability to draft good players. Obviously ideal if it pays off but I think it's a big risk to trade a good player for just the chance at getting a good player.

Love the Malik move. Gotta shoot your shot on QB and not just stand still hoping a guy magically drops in your lap.

I posted Kurt Warner's breakdown of about 30 plays in the Malik thread. There's some good stuff in there. We definitely have a QB who threatens more of the field with his arm than Tua. Obviously have a more athletic QB, probably the most athletic one we've ever had in terms of just raw physical ability regarding moving his body. One thing that came up a few times is him maybe leaving the pocket early to scramble. Hopefully more experience limits that. And even then he still can make a positive play out of it.

I've been worried this coming up season will be a total waste. And maybe in the end it will be. But at least we have something to look forward to. And for at least a few weeks we can have some hope that we've got a really good QB. I'm hyped. When does camp start lol.

Only way the Minkah trade makes sense to me is if they're going to argue the money saved by basically cutting him equals two average players they can sign in free agency. Like they think they're so strapped for cap space that they think they'll have trouble fielding a roster that doesn't scream "tanking for #1 don't bother paying for tickets" unless they can use that money for multiple spots instead of one good player on the downside of his career. Idk at least don't give him to the damn Jets thought.

Rapoport is reporting the Falcons are "expected to make a strong push for Tua". Not sure what they can do until we actually cut him.

Because of our luck Tua is probably going to have a solid stretch of games where he looks like a good QB again and for a second makes us look ridiculous for getting rid of him. But sadly for Tua I don't think it will last long. As for the Falcons I guess it makes sense if Penix is still hurt or they want a short term contingency plan if Penix doesn't pan out.

Kurt Warner did a great job giving Malik a fair assessment. Some good stuff in there.

I just don't see that as a barrier, honestly. I'll keep saying this, but I think they should either be all in or all out. If they feel like he aced the test on the practice field, in the meeting rooms, in the locker room, and on the field on Sundays, I think you figure the financials out and sign the guy, even if it's big money. If you don't feel good enough about spending $30M+ on him, you shouldn't really be trying to spend $20M on him.

Yeah good point. If you think a QB is more than just a bridge player until you can find one you can really compete with you should probably go all in and worry about the financial impact down the road. If you think he is just a bridge player why are you bothering when you're currently having to worry about the financial part? Just throw Ewers out there and see if he can be a competent backup for the future, which is isn't a total waste of a season because as most teams show backup QB is a really important position.

Era Adjusted Elo is a interesting metrtic for comparison of QBs across eras:

Through about game 85 of their careers, Marino was at the top, with Mahomes just behind him.

[ATTACH:full]

By start 173, Manning, Marino and Montana were all clustered together with Brady a ways behind and Mahomes not there yet but seemingly on track to be in same range as the other Ms. But Marino tapered off after that and Manning and Brady continued ascending.

[ATTACH:full]

I'm assuming Avg PA is their team's average points allowed relative to other defenses at that time. That tells the vast majority of the story in regard to team success. The number of good to very good defenses Brady had relative to Marino is insane.

That quote rubs me the wrong way. Did JES "quit" when he left the Packers to take the Dolphins job? I mean surely he could have stuck it out in GB until he ascended to the GM role, right? Or did he just take advantage of a better opportunity? Which is exactly what the players that transfer are trying to do?

Yeah that's got me a little worried about his biases.

They're both obviously bad, no question. But the Brees choice did come with legit risk involved. As we've seen in his post-retirement phase, he has extreme issues with that part of his body. The doctors weren't wrong, it just took on the longer end for it to become too much of a problem for him to play well.

The realignment choice though, that's unforgivable. The League wanted to put the Fins in the South, and Huizenga fought against it for foolish, greedy, short term reasons that had nothing to do with football. Imagine a world where the Fins were in the South and the Colts in the East starting in 2002, going up against the Titans, Jaguars and Texans twice a year. How good might the later Wanny teams have been with that schedule? Even the period where the team cratered and burned starting in 2004, the rest of the division would have been poor to mediocre, and choices would have likely been different to keep the Fins near the top. I think that there's little question we'd have won multiple division titles in that era, and with home playoff games, who knows what the ceiling might have been. Through the 2011 season, there were only two instances of those three teams winning more than 9 games.

How did I not know Huizenga was given the choice? Damn that's wild. If the Colts were in the east all that time there's a real possibility the Patriots don't win as much as they did. Certainly a better chance we would've won a bit more. Unbelievably foolish in retrospect.

I mostly just want to move on and try to find the answer elsewhere. But I don't care how much money we have to pay Tua. Rookie salaries are depressed so that owners and veterans can make more money and so that teams can incur less risk and GMs/coaches can justify keeping their jobs for longer. So you can kind of just look at it like he's getting back pay for depressed wages.

He put his body on the line, especially after everyone freaked out and demanded he retire while playing armchair neurologist. He even had some stretches of the best QB play we've had since Marino. Yes, it's kind of absurd we have a society that pays people so much to entertain us while other um...stuff goes on in the world. But it is what it is and he's far from the least deserving person to be insanely rich. I mean ffs aren't we going to have a nepo baby own the damn team once Ross goes? Are we going to complain about what he's taking home when the league announces yearly revenue numbers?

One thing I already love about the organization is that they seem to like hearing feedback from a varied bunch.

They also seem better at preventing leaks. It was nice to finally not be a laughingstock, constantly in a defensive mode when every leak about Miami is negative or about players/coaches that don't want to be here.

You've seen it this year with the Raiders, Bills and Browns. Just nothing but embarrassment and ineptitude. Not this year for Miami. I'm also glad Miami didn't act like it needed, or was salivating for Harbaugh. Great move by the team to play if off- almost as if they'd prefer the direction they chose over him. It emboldens Hafley to come in here and feel like he was the number 1 choice to lead the team.

I also like how the interview process felt like a process. No jilted at the altar stories, rather a long list of guys we spoke to. For a new GM and coach, the prudent and smart thing to do would be to collect as much intel or feedback on how the team is viewed and what their vision would be on how to structure the rebuild. Sullivan and Hafley are doing things the right way. This was the plan the moment Sullivan was brought in. The fact that there was a plan with vision is exactly the type of decisive and informed decision making structure the team needs.

Needless to say, I'm officially excited about the direction of this franchise.

Good point. I was preparing to get roasted if we didn't get Harbaugh. But we were either competently handling things in a way the media and people around the league liked or for some reason they didn't want to grill us this time. Either way I'll take it.
