He got us a star wide receiver and a really good tackle, it's a start.

edit: and I'm just talking about the draft too.

Good tackle and good receiver are not good enough.
Just like a good DT is not good enough in the first round when a beast like Dez is there for taking. Or a good LB is not good enough when Gronk is on the board for taking.

We have right now 5 WRs who are better than the best WR we've had in the last 20+ years, OJ McDuffie (arguably, with the exception of B Marshall, who I do not think highly of because he is slow, lazy and can be covered.) We have 5 better receivers than OJ right now.
To get 1000 yds, 10 TDs we will "juice" out every sweat drop and skill out of these guys.

And then you have Kelvin Benjamin, in his rookie year, 1000 yds and 10 TD, and it will be considered a down year, because he's a beast. For Wallace and Landry, it's a great year.

This orgaanization needs to start drafting beasts. There is no bigger need than a beast. Good is not good enough, and that's where we are at with Hickey after 2014 draft.

And, we have you with your 20/20 hindsight saying he should have picked Kelvin Benjamin at 19. Yet, I doubt you can produce one post from before the draft where you clambered for Benjamin as the best player for Miami at that point.

Yeah, we did not need a right tackle. Shame on Hickey for not reading his crystal ball correctly and know that Albert, Moreno, and Delmas would all tear their ACL. Good GMs can always predict those things. :pity:

He solved very little in his first year.

"BayAreaFinFan wrote:

Some of that has to attributed to Auburn not having a QB since he's beens there yet, no?

I doubt it. It's just his philosophy. I think Nick Marshall is excellent for his system precisely because he runs so much and only throws deep.

The attraction to Malzahn is the same as it was for Chip Kelly. .

Malzahn runs power formation football. Has nothing in common with Chip Kelly except for zone read. When it comes to passing game, Malzahn is akin to Coughlin----run, run, run, run, deep bomb--no different than Shula, Harbaugh, Saban and all other power formation coaches.

Lol.

You can laugh. Shula got us into this tunnel, together with Marino, and Wayne Huizenga, and Jimmy. Then Wannstead and Saban and Cameron, and Ireland, kept us in that Tunnel. This team has not drafted or acquired top players in decades, nor has it played anything that resembled fun football since the 80s. This tam has been mostly unwatchable since the early 90s.

Philbin took us out of that tunnel. We are in the clear. That is a HOF job.

I don't for one second believe that Matty Ice would be leading this current team to the playoffs.

I can tell you with 100% certainty who will not lead any team to SB: Juwan James and Jake Long, a RT and LT.

It's already been evaluated. Philbin is a failure. There is no need to drag out the inevitable.

How so?

Philbin is the only successful coach in the last 25 years of the Dolphins, since Duper retired.

Dude got us the QB and installed a spread, that works, and rolls over teams, when pices are playing and healthy, even with shatty players. Something every coach and administration we've had failed at for 25 years, and there have been HOFers starting with Shula.

Philbin is the GOAT. Philbin is the only Dolphins HOFer in my book.

Good lord. Another year of this for what possible purpose?

More fun, instead of the boring power formations.

I watched none of it. Its bad enough to recover from surgery, let alone be forced to watch the Dolphins in another December game they had no chance of winning.

You missed out, it was a great first half.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million ****ing times: Tannehill isn't the problem.

He isn't a solution, not right now.

Woa bro, he got Juwan James who I think is going to be a mainstay at the tackle position for years to come.

I don't give af about the main stay at RT in the 1st rd, and neither should you or the GM. Bills got one in the 7th round, from our own back yard. And he is playing better than Juwan. Juwan is not 1st rd good any way and he does not score TDs.

I've been there before with the morons who drafted Jake Long 1st overall, and Vernon Carey. Neither were 1st rd worthy. it's a dumb move. Hickey's got long ways to go.

Why does that not apply to the HC who clearly got us to that place with the QB, whereas JJ, Wanny, Saban, Cam, Parcells failed miserably, as well as Harbaugh and Rex who many are clamoring for?

Out scored 48-3 in the last two second halves we have played.

i knew it was bad... But JesusJesus

We had backups, and they have no stamina or skill for 60 minutes of heavy punching, especially bad is Dallas Thomas. He starts well, but as the game goes on, he dwindles. Pouncey too is a disappointment in this department. LBs as well.

We have yet to see a good interior Oline with Pouncey in it. Dude gets ragdolled. And he wants to get paid? Good riddance!

In his post-game presser, Philbin had the same sort of "dead" look I recall Sparano as having towards the end.

I wonder if Ross has already made a decision and announced it to Philbin?

Yeah, I did not see the presser, but I listened to it, and both Philbin and Tannehill spoke in trembling voice. (Those were the only two interviews I heard.) I got the feeling there was great pain and disappointment in the locker room.

"DolphinGreg wrote:

Owners that get involved is picking who the coaches are and what players should be acquired are generally panicky and impatient people who wind up hurting their franchises.

And that is where Ross screwed up last year.

Philbin is untouchable. Everyone else is replaceable.
