Interesting that the first re-signing of the bevy of free agents this team has is of a player who contributes in such a "non-obvious" manner. I have to wonder if that's a message to the guys who are more in the spotlight (Jake Long, Reggie Bush, Brian Hartline, Sean Smith, Randy Starks).

In other words, "we're rewarding guys who are playing well in their roles, and you aren't playing well enough in yours right now." IMO the only one of those guys I listed who is playing well enough in his role to be rewarded right now is Brian Hartline. I'd like to see him be the next signing.

I don't think that's nearly as controversial as people like to pretend. It's possible he isn't, but it's doubtful.

Link has the details. 2.17 total, and has base salaries but nothing else.

Pretty reasonably, it's a slightly incremental increase off what we originally signed him to I believe.

Thanks, $715,000 and $855,000 is definitely reasonable for a special teams player. 2.17 a year, not so much :sweatdrop:

doubtful he's back or doubtful he's not back? With Ross anything is possible. The Odrick thing has pretty much done it for me, I was okay with him coming back thinking Odie could be a solid player for us. But he's really looking like a bust... Trying to use my Ross-Crystal ball... and implant myself into his brain... He's probably waiting to see how the season plays out. He's likely consulting with Carl Peterson and others. If he starts seeing light at the end of the tunnel this season with the guys who we know are still on the payroll next year, I do reckon he'll be inclined to keep things status quo. To quantify it, I think the team needs to win two more games at worst for Ireland to keep his job. With the exception of the Titans game, theyve been competitive in every one. If they are competitive in two of the three games involving the Pats and 49ers, that will be great for Ireland.

Doubtful he's not back. It's been that way since the start of the season.

I don't see how Odrick is a bust. He's hardly excellent, and not what you aspire to get from a first round pick, but I think a bust would suggest he's a below average result for a first round pick, and I don't think there is a lot of grounds for that.

The problem is there has been scouting going on all year for specific players..If I guy like Polian enters he will of not had that luxury, I'm sure he doesn't have a team of scouts working for him at this point..

Bottom line though its about the eye for talent.

2maro we will have 12 combined rookies and 2nd year players from two drafts contributing..RT...Martin..Vern..Miller..Matthews..Shelby...Randall....Pouncey..Thomas..Clay...Wilson...Thigpen...Need to see their development at the end of the year, that's a high level of contribution relative to other teams I'm sure.

So much for the "we don't negotiate during the season" explanation for the lack of Jake Long/Reggie Bush contract talks.

Small potatoes signing that wont upset the overalll cap picture.
There is no comparisons to signing our high priced free agents where a mistake can be very costly.

They've also reached out to Jones, but not to Clemons.
