hey, i had the chance to talk to one of the three undrafted FAs that were cut from the team. he said I could post this as long as I kept his identity anonymous because he's not affiliated with the miami dolphins at the current time. (20:14:11) themangoduck: as an OLineman can you tell coverages all that well by the way the fronts line up or not so much? not really. you can see blitzes coming by the way safeties move though. but im not realy concerned with coverage... maybe on a screen where i would be kicking out the corner though, that can be tough. well its pretty easy... if an OLB or so isnt covered by a safety on top of him, he cant blitz because noone is there to cover his space. thats a very very simple idea behind it. but if a team is normally 2 high safeties, and they slide over to one side and one drops a little closer to the line, that OLB out there has a good chance of coming, or even that safety (20:19:35) themangoduck: right because there's more over to that side (20:19:41) themangoduck: to help cover right. you just get a feel for what is threatening and what is not though. if its trips right, and the safeties slide over but stay high, they are just over becaues of all the wide outs to one side (20:21:17) themangoduck: yeah cuz they feel that's threatening them. i guess the guy that's playing man on the other side obviously can't come b/c he's got to protect that receiver (20:21:25) themangoduck: so you're safe there and it would be mostly up the gut? (20:21:39) themangoduck: pressure wise i mean right... i mean they can always bring someone from anywhere... its just that someone else has to be able to get into that zone to cover, or get to the man they are man to man with themangoduck: did you meet bill parcells when you were in FL? yea we talked here and there, he gave me a little 1on1 lesson one day too themangoduck: that's awesome what'd he have to say? just gave me some different technique pointers. told me to get stronger. in pass pro... when DL put their hands on your chest you are supposed to use your arms to smack theirs either up or down to get them off you, then you snap your hands on their chest and also in pass pro, when getting bull rushed you can hop backwards with both feet in a little double hop action and sit down to try and stop it themangoduck: that last one doesn't make sense. i understand it but not how that would work I would think it would give them more momentum no its kind of like when they make contact and start to push you back, you hop back twice maybe 6 inches at a time, bracing of the hops. in the split seconds that you hop back each one pushes back against him and braces him up, and if you drop yours hips down too then you get under him and can stop the rush - might seem like stupid questions but I was curious so I asked...
Nice work. I've only contacted one person from the NFL before for advice. He gave me great advice, although it was a one-liner, it was great advice.
