Anyone else watching this? I'm really liking it; puts me in mind of both The Middleman and a Joss Whedon series.
An aside: can anyone believe the SciFi channel changed its name to SyFy? WTF?! Talk about a bonehead marketing move. Yeah, turn your back on a term that is ingrained deeply in the cultural lexicon, for one that...well, WTF is a "SyFy," anyway?!
I personally think they should have just gone all the way and made it... Xtreme Syfy!!! hmmm sounds like an energy drink.
Watched the pilot, not bad, have the first episode on DVR. They said they changed the name to be less geeky and more hip & trendy. They were also told thats how you type it when you are texting or chatting, so why not.
I like Warehouse 13. I've always been a fan of the theme of paranormal in modern society and how it's dealt with for entertaining fiction. Sci f... err syfy has some good shows including Eureka one of my favorites. The name change is rather stoopid to me. If they want a better image do a better job on their original movies and keep up the allready good work on the original series and provide an outlet for old classic horror sci fi flicks like they did when they first started. And maybe even show the movies uncut.
THANK YOU! Sci-Fi/Science Fiction is a term that goes back to the time of Jules Verne; talk about brand recognition! It's like (again, I'll use) Coca-Cola giving up 100 years of branding through hard work and ad dollars, and changing their whole identity to "Kokakola." For no logical reason, just for the hell of it. As for Warehouse 13...I find the characters unusually engaging for having only just met them; kinda felt the same right off the bat about the crew of Firefly. And that bodes well.
Kinda reminds me of Bones/X-Files. I guess that's what they're shooting for. I thought the first episode was kind of a yawner TBH. It also reminded me of the movie 'Idle Hands', wherein the person is posessed (like that thing the chick wore in her hair).
Funny you should say that because the review in which I first heard of this program made that analogy; they said the two leads were similar to Mulder and Scully. But I believe the show has already managed to defuse that with Mica being far more accepting and approachable than Scully even became in the late seasons of X-Files. Plus it seems headed to an ensemble situation more than focusing so much on the two leads...also less conflictive with "the Man," which is nice as it opens up storylines beyond paranoia regarding institutionalized corruption/obstructionism. And I really like the Saul Rubinek character, as well as the cute innkeeper and CCH Pounder's mysterious and powerful persona.
I like the potential.. I like to think there might be stuff like that, it's the kid still in me. It reminds me of Bones, and for some reason, I just don't care for that much.. maybe because Angel is typecast so far to me. It took me years before I finally watched x files, and still haven't watched a whole Eureka, that I enjoyed the first Wharehouse 13 and I'm interested to see if I like the characters is prolly a good sign.
I haven't caught it lately due to mixed shifts at work and forgetting to set the DVR. I'll have to catch the reruns.
