LSU’S Byrd Upgraded To Good Condition
Posted by Aaron Wilson on April 26, 2009, 1:37 p.m.
Following a major car accident in Miami shortly before the NFL Draft, LSU wide receiver Demetrius Byrd has been upgraded to good condition and was moved out of the intensive care unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to Glenn Guilbeau of the Shreveport Times.

According to a source, Byrd suffered injuries to his shoulder, ear lobe as well as multiple scratches and bruises and was given hourly CAT scans to monitor his neurological condition.

Shortly after the accident, LSU receivers coach D.J. McCarthy told us that Byrd was able to respond to voices and squeeze people’s hands and blink on command and that doctors were pleased with Byrd’s progress and outlook.

Initially projected to be drafted between the fourth and seventh rounds prior to the accident, Byrd is considered unlikely to be drafted. Byrd’s agent, David Dunn, released a statement last week stating that Byrd is expected to make a full recovery.

“I do not think he will be drafted now,” NFL draft expert Mike Detillier told the Times. “The fact that he is still in the hospital, and his agent has not come out and said he’s fine worries me. By now, you would have thought his agent would be telling people he’s in good shape. …

“A lot of guys make more money as a free agent than if they’re drafted late. If he can show he’s fine after the accident, he may have a lot of teams after him. Then, he can pick the team that best suits him. I just hope his injuries are not more serious than people are letting on.”

He was drafted in the seventh round. Happy that some team still gave him a chance. Hope he recovers soon....
