Those of us old enough to remember the days of the C64's, Amiga's, Mega-drives, NES, SNES etc., undoubtedly have lots of good memories of what seems like a golden age of gaming. Low-tech, perhaps, but high-love.

What gone but not forgotten titles would you like to see given an HD Remake/re-release or sequel? And YES, of course, we're talking about it being done right.

This is basically an excuse for a nostalgia trip.

For me I'd like to see the following show up somehow, somewhere in an up-to-date version.

    Turrican II

    [

You could argue that Halo was a modern version since you've got a shot-down armoured space soldier running around facing all manner of foes. Even Destiny could sort of fit the bill but it's far less intense. If another Turrican title showed up I'd be on board.

    I'll dump some more later.

    Anyone else?

I've had my wishes answered in recent years, with several final fantasy games being remastered, and hopefully a full remake of 7. The NES and SNES classics offer a bunch of old school games including several more of these too.

But more so than having old school games brought back, what I'd really love would be to have new games made with the same focus as old ones. Stop with the online crap and microtransactions, and make an awesome offline game full of single player content.

It's true, my list would have been longer a few years back.

Classic games to receive 'remakes' include The Secret of Monkey Island, Street Fighter 2, Stryder, Pirates!, Another World, Flashback etc.

In terms of advances, I'd like to see another Prince of Persia game but not so much the high-speed/parkour platformer that we've seen. More along the lines on action RPG. POP 3D was much maligned for technical floors (bad camera angles etc) but I thought that it did the most of any game in the series to expand the world and create incredible atmosphere. The Prince of Persia world/universe could offer a lot for well imagined, bigger game world with an incredible narrative, if someone will do the work. Heck, even just a clever telling of the actual series of stories in the 1001 Arabian Nights could work.

I always thought that the PoP games looked interesting, but I never actually played one.

I watched a friend of mine play Monkey Island way back in the early 90s on his PC, when we were in HS. In retrospect, it was probably the first point and click adventure that I ever had exposure to.

If you have any affinity for a point and click adventure play the original Monkey Island. And in terms of Prince of Persia, depending on where you come in the games are very different. The original one hold a special place. If you can tolerate the old-school graphics the game play still holds up. It was a challenging platformer. The second one isn't necessary etc. It probably won't have the effect it did back then, but that was maybe the first game with really smooth animation due to clever motion capture. It made it a head and shoulders above the competition. Ever since then the PoP games have always features 'movement' as an important part. The big leap was made moving from 2D into PoP the Sands of Time. That first of 3 games is probably the most well known now, and are still worth playing. The focus is on navigating the environments and traps while engaging multiple enemies again using acrobatics. Sort of parkour with a sword and a cool time-reversal gadget. Oh and your eventual side-kick/partner/romance which was a good addition to what could have been a lonely experience.

PoP 3D was an attempt to move into a 3D environment and a lot hated it, and it had technical flaws, but I played it all the way through to finish. The graphics don't hold up, especially for 3D, but the creativity and music and atmosphere was brilliant. The floating city with spiral library stick in my memory, as well as a really interesting leap into an other-worldly dimension leaning on Persian (rather than Arabian) themes.

I haven't played the latest game but it took the game in another direction stylistically and didn't do brilliantly.

I don't have a particular affinity for it, it just struck me that it was the first of its type that I came across. Heck, back in those days, some PCs didn't even have a mouse! Any PC gaming that I do is basically games like Civ.

Another old Amiga classic that would be worthy of remake is First Samurai.

I could see this one done really well along the same lines as the recent Tomb Raider reboots.

The original game didn't feel as much like a platformer as an adventure. Rather than some Lo-Wang type action nonsense, a Tomb Raider-esque challenge with this lone Samurai running around like a solemn, samurai Lara Croft, working his way through the levels, uncovering the mystery would be awesome. And the whole historic/samurai/futuristic time-travel setting has massive potential.

I hadn't heard about these remakes, awesome! Of course, these days I always think, "What would it be like in PSVR"?

Another Saturn classic - Dragon Force. Deep but not too deep. Good, if not cliche, storyline - with multiple story lines.

It had strategy, narrative, management aspects, humour, and those awesome live battlefields.

There was a sequel that wasn't readily available so I never got to play it. Don't know if it was as good. But this sort of game is rare. A really good RPG strategy.

Closest thing I think of is Valkyria Chronicles, but the setting and gameplay is different. But they both stand out as unique strategy RPG's of a high quality.

    More like this please!

I know this is slightly unrelated, but Ghost of Tsushima is a promising samurai game that will be released in the next year or two. Also, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice looks like a cool game with a lot of Japanese folklore embedded in it.

I'd anticipate neither of these to capture the exploratory aspects of the Tomb Raider series though, and instead focus more on action.

While we're on samurai, I always thought it would be cool if they made a modern-day Bushido Blade, especially with the development of For Honor. I always though it was cool that they went with a 1 or 2 hit fighting system (these are katana, after all).

On a slightly more mythological level, I think they've announced they're coming out with more Onimusha games, and another Ni-Oh is in the works.

    It's a good time to be a gaming samurai-fan.

I was so disappointed that River City Ransom didn't come on the NES Classic. I had read that it did, and was sad when I booted the system up and it wasn't there. There are few games that ever gave me greater joy. As an 11 year old when it was first released, it was the best thing ever.

Yeah man. I actually bought my daughter a Nintendo Switch and found River City Random was downloadable. I was juiced!

I'd love to see Virtua Tennis redone with current players (and lots of classic players in a perfect world) and graphics. Leave the gameplay alone as it was the perfect blend of realistic and arcade. Adding online play would be the big change. Four player matches on the same TV were some of the best times I've had gaming back in the day.

Pretty sure Virtua tennis for Xbox 360 had online play. I played like 1000 matches I was totally addicted to it.

    Master of Magic.

I love this game. There have been many spiritual successors, however, none of them capture the feel I got when I played Masters of Magic.

A nice little video of one of my favorite games of all time.

Yeah, there was even a sequel on the Dreamcast itself, but the gameplay wasn't the same.

Though a Crazy Taxi game, with online multi-player would be interesting. You all start on the same map and compete to get the highest fare total as every driver for themselves or as part of a team (like five versus five).

Dreamcast, that reminds me of Powerstone. That game was fun. A collection came out in 2006. A remake of powerstone would be awesome.

All of the PS1 and PS2-era Final Fantasies are getting ports to Nintendo Switch. This is back when Square was (just about) making classic after classic.

For those that have played FFXII and FFXII Zodiac Age, which one is the better experience? This is the one FF I've only ever gotten about halfway through, and will intend on playing it all the way when it's released on Switch. I've only ever played the base version.

They're a similar experience, but zodiac age adds a level of depth to it. Still my second favorite FF game after 3.
