What's the most forgettable game that you put a lot of time into?

A few days ago, I read an article that mentioned FF 13-2, and as I took a moment to think about the game, I realized that almost everything that I came up with was actually from FF13 instead. 13-2 was a game that I spent many dozens of hours on and played to completion, but it was just so generic and forgettable that most of my memories are just gone. I certainly wasn't happy with it when I was finished.

Do you guys have any similar experiences?

Probably Modern Warfare 2. I got it because COD 4 was amazing and all of my friends were jumping on it thinking we were in for a similar experience. Sadly that was not the case. I have many great memories and can recount all of the moments in the campaign of COD 4. However for MW 2, I can barely remember anything about the campaign. There was nothing on the level of All Ghillied Up. The only memorable mission is "No Russian" because of the shock value. Multiplayer was really a mixed bag with the new weapons, attachments, and killstreaks. I felt that the additions complicated the game too much. The maps were mostly boring and forgettable too apart from Highrise.

Wait, if it was forgettable how would I remember playing it? :)

Halo Reach maybe? I didn't even get around to finishing the main game. At a certain point, you get that 'been there done that' feeling and need something really new to shake things up. Halo in VR with a gun controller would do it. :)

I guess it depends on what style games you play. Other than Madden and MLB The Show, the overwhelming majority of what I do are RPGs that I put a ton of time into. So, I remember the characters, the story, the areas, ect. But I totally get that if you do mostly online shooters or something like that, then its a different ballgame.

Not counting sports games, probably Kingdoms of Amalur (which I only played this year).

Was that the game that Curt Shilling produced?

See, 12 is near the top of my personal list. I was thrilled to be able to play it again on the PS4 last year. I remember it more clearly than most of the other RPGs Ive ever played.

Interesting. I thought the gameplay was too hands off and the characters were not that interesting. Leveling up system was poor too me as well. I was bored playing that game.
    Happy you liked it though

Yes. It isn't bad, I just felt like so much of it was the same. I got bored and gave up in it eventually (like 40 hours in).

I actually like the gameplay a lot. Sort of a halfway point between a traditional turn based RPG and an action one like many of today's games are. I like the gameplay of 12 a lot more than I do of 15.

    Two more PS2 RPGs
Shadow Hearts: A game that I enjoyed until I got sick of the fact that all characters had the same personality. It was like the first half of the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D times 100

Xenosaga Episode I: I was trying to remember Shadow Hearts's name so I googled PS2 RPGs and I saw Xenosaga and thought, "oh, yea I forgot I played that game." Which is too bad because Xenogears was one of my favorite video games of all time.

This makes sense. It was originally designed to be an MMO.

I put a crap-ton of time into Xenosaga 1 and 2 as well. Those games had an insanely deep and complicated story for the day, and the grinding was epic.

I can't come up with a good example. If a game isn't enjoyable and memorable, I don't play it long. Along with what Dupree said, there might be a few mobile time wasters that I sank too much time into.
