So I've had this 360 for 3 years now, not one problem. Now everytime I put a game in, it says "Reading", then "Open Tray". Anyone have any easy and/or cheap fixes?
This sounds like a problem I was having with my old PS2 about four years ago. I think the problem was dust because it seemed to get better when I blew some dust out of it.
yeah my 360 does that... one trick I've found is when it doesn't recognize a disc, open tray, take out disc, close tray, let the 360 read nothing, then put the disc back in. Works for me...
Yea I had this problem awhile back. Opened up my 360, cleaned it out with air duster, worked great ever since. Been over a year since I've cleaned it, guess I might as well clean it out again.
Took me about 30 tries to get it to work this time. Letting the 360 read nothing didn't work for me. Will definitely give it a good cleaning after the sixers game.
Xbox is done for now. Opening and closing tray has no effect whatsoever. Anybody have any other tips?
Sorry, haven't read the whole thread. Did you fire some compressed air in there to try and take any dust out? I'd also consider opening the 360 and physically look for any defects. The 360 is ridiculous easy to open up (youtube it) and the optical drive is straight out of a PC, so if you can open a PC CDROM, you can open this
Shot compressed air right through the tray to no avail. Going to open it up in a bit and try this "Pot Tweak" I'm reading about.
The Pot Tweak didn't work for me. I ended up getting an elite when MS had the rebate going (of course I got banned just past 30 days of purchase, so that sucked ). I am thinking about taking my DVD drive from the banned elite and putting it in my old 360 (not sure if it would work though).
If all else fails, I'm just going to buy a new DVD drive as well. They're only like $25-40 or so, so pretty cheap. I'm not quite sure if the laser is the issue. It seems to me my disks are unable to spin, and make some pretty loud noises trying to spin. I'm hoping cleaning/lubing the rails, spindle, etc. will do the trick, as opposed to having to buy a new motor. Of course I don't know this for sure because I won't have a torx wrench until tomorrow so I can't open it up tonight to check, but from the noises that seems to be the problem.
Damn you RR. The same freaking day I read this thread this problem happened to me for the first time. Thankfully it only took about 3 attempts before it started working again. Hopefully this doesn't escalate.
Funny you mentioned that. One of my friends has this happen to him, the day he fixes it, one of my other friends has this happen to him, the day he gets a new Xbox, mine now has that problem As for it escalating, that's what happened to mine over the last week. It started with about only 5 rounds of opening and closing, to about a whole hour of opening and closing to now not working at all. Sucks. Hopefully after opening it up to see if it's the laser not working, or the disk not spinning (probable), I'll be able to get a solution.
Yea, I'm just on the road right now, and it's really frustrating when I get to the hotel after work and I can't get it to work. I can't send it in until I get home. It's the 2nd time I've had this issue in a month, and usually after an hour or so it works again. I just don't get it.
That's kind of like how mine was. However, eventually it went from having to open and closing the tray 10 times, to around 25, to around 50, to no working at all.
