I believe we should keep Ronnie Brown to keep the wildcat a factor for other teams to waste time on films and training in order be prepared for what might come in a game against the Dolphins. If we have a healthy wildcat next year we now also have a QB that is not thrown in off the bench. Our QB now has as good as a full season under his belt. Plus our QB now has had time with the receivers, backs, coaches, ect.

I guarantee no team will be looking forward to meeting us next season.( Not even sexy Rexy).

    1. Henne now knows the team well. He's not just thrown in, he will be the starting leader.
    2. Brown and Williams healthy among others we will have a wildcat.
    3. Bess, Hartline,Fasano, Ginn,Turner, and or what we upgrade in receivers.
    4. A revamped Defense that WILL be better.(Hopefully the Offence won't always be trying to catch up).

Last season they had to over use the wildcat to help the QB transition making it much more predictable.Next year i believe they can call more plays at will not being forced to lean heavy on any single aspect of the offense. Thus hopefully our Running backs will be more effective for a FULL season.

My point is we are no longer going to be so one dimensional on offense we have the ability to call any play we want and succeed at it. A offense that can really share the load and just wear out opposing defenses.

This is why i hope the team keeps Ronnie i believe we really could use him.
Anyone agree or do you think he is just a overpaid injury prone running back?

I would classify him as injury prone but some of the injuries most RB's wouldn't be able to help. So long as he continues to run, catch passes out of the backfield, and operate the WC he is a valuable back. It's not like he just runs the football.. he does it all. I hesitate to use the word "over-rated", but he is replaceable. It's just not as easy as other backs.

Why do some receivers run a post route better than an out?

Everything you do in football requires some individual attributes. And considering how it was scrapped once Ronnie was injured, I think it takes more than you're giving it credit for.

Tell that to Ricky Williams. As soon as we lost Ronnie Brown, the Wildcat lost its effectiveness. Ricky couldn't trigger the formation at all.

Of course we shouldn't trade Ronnie Brown. Remember that franchise record streak of games with 30+ points a game? Did I mention that came crashing to a halt when we lost RB. As for the Wildcat, it's run its course. It should be used in short yard/goalline situations, that's it imo.

Ronnie is my Favorite Dolphin currently playing. The kid gives everything he has not only durring the game or even during the season but during the off season as well. He has suffered through some horrid coaching staffs (Saban, Cameron). Was even demoted under Cam Cameron and still every interview he always has a smile on his face and always something positive to say about this team. I have been following the phins for (cough) 37 years and trust me you will NEVER find a better team player. Unless he is holding out for some ridicules contract you bet your arse you sign this kid.

As for him being "injury prone" I hardly call getting blindsided while trying to make a tackle after an INT or having a D-linemen roll his foot while making a tackle anything more than bad luck. Some of you guys make it sound like all you have to do is look at him and he's injured.

The reason why he is considered injury prone is because he has only one season where he wasn't injured. But for trading him we better get something good as I believe Ronnie is a great runner and I also believe he makes the team better.

We stopped scoring 30 pts a game because we lost Ronnie. Which meant we lost the Wildcat.

So why would we drop the wildcat if/when we get Ronnie back?

the wildcat didn't run its course, we just lost the best player in the league at running it.

some call it bad luck some call it injury prone
either way he cant stay on the field and that is borderline unreliable
i see all the if ronnie would stay healthy posts and i agree
    but he cant
there is no doubt ronnie would have made us better last year without the injury but it happened again
gave us the time to develop a first time starter at qb and play a little wad ball with ricky

first i heard of a possible ronnie trade :wink2:

First of all ronnie will not get you much in a trade because he has only 1 1000 yd season due to his injury problems. So we our better off keeping him this year and drafting a replacement next year.
The plus side is ronnie will not be an unrestricted free agent this year and we do not have to pay him like one or watch him walk.

I think Henning chose very bad times to try to pass. When Ricky ran it he did good. We also lost the element of Ricky coming around for a fake or real hand off, and defenses had to play that in there scheme. I think Ricky is the harder runner, and harder on opposing defenses.:wink2:

I'm not even talking about the passes. Ricky looked extremely uncomfortable taking Wildcat snaps. He was alright at running the ball after receiving the snap, but being put in the position of pseudo-quarterback simply didn't go over well. He doesn't have the skill set that Ronnie does.

It got to the point where I was more comfortable with Pat White getting snaps. In fact, White should have immediately become the triggerman after Ronnie went down, not Ricky.

By that time we had lost Cobbs on the outside and the threat of Ricky coming round the corner at full speed. You swap Ronnie in there instead of Ricky and I don't think we see that much difference tbh.
Ricky running that sweep route is a huge part of the success that Ronnie has when running the wildcat.

I agree with this. Not enough people are giving Ricky enough credit for being the decoy. If Ricky is replaced with an average back then Ronnie would not have had the success he did. I think the Wildcat was successful because of Ricky and Ronnie. You lose one of those pieces and it's not effective anymore.

No, it was scrapped because the Wildcat was only effective if 2 good backs were in, Williams and Brown. Williams would go in motion and that would freeze defenders on the snap and that split second would give us success. Don't believe me? Go watch the highlights of the Jet's game that we won on a Monday night here in Miami. That camera angle where Ronnie scores the winning touchdown summarizes why the Wildcat was successful. I remember counting 5 defenders biting on Ricky and it lead to an easy walk-in touchdown for Ronnie.

Ronnie brown plays on average 11 games per season. That is the defintion of injury prone. You can not help the team when a 1/4 of your season is in the rehab center.
I like ronnie brown but you can not count on him to line up every sunday.Next year we draft another back.

Good point while Cobbs was in the scheme he contributed as well. With Brown being so high profile you almost forget about Cobbs being a part to start with.

Has anyone heard how Cobbs is coming along and if he will be 100% for next season?

possible future of WildCat & RunningStable:
    1) Frontoffice needs to address the contract issues of Brown & Williams asap, nail them down: signed & delivered.
    2) the running stable, offensive line & special teams are set
    3) running in Tandem, Ricky & Ronnie are greater than the sum of their parts. they are one of the elite Tandems in the NFL.
    4) our backfield for a healthy WildCat is a potential nightmare for defenses to attack: Ronnie, Ricky, Cobbs/Polite & White.
with the holes filled in we can concentrate on systems

The reason that RB won't be traded/released/whatever is simply that he IS our offensive weapon...the only one we have. Henne is coming along, but not really ready just yet. We have no WRs to speak of (playmaking gamechangers). No TEs worth mentioning....Ronnie and Ricky is all we have, so letting one of them go just isn't going to happen. More than likely, he's going to be an RFA (at worst) and we'll find a way to retain him. But my point is, it's not because of the WC or anything else other than we have no other weapons than Brown...

Because no other player in the league has run it as well as consistently as Ronnie Brown. That's probably why. If it didn't take a special skill set taking the snap then why did it become less effective even though Ricky was still there to run the sweep? You can't just put anybody back there.

First off I agree 100%. Secondly we have a team that has some glaring needs. Needs that are so evident that if not addressed we will struggle or fail to take the next step to true contender. Yet with these needs staring us in the face we have some fans that want to address a position of strength instead. Last year we lost Ronnie in week 9 this year, but at the time we had the #2 rushing attack in the NFL. With both Ronnie and Cobbs out we still finished ranked 4th.

    Meanwhile our Defense finished:

    22nd total yards
    18th vs the run
    24th vs the Pass
    25th scoring

    Our Offense:

    15th Scoring
    4th Rushing
    20th Passing

Point is IMHO please address an area of need first. We have several to chose from.

Ronnie Brown is injury prone but I think that just means you look for more RB depth, not get rid of him completely. Think what a back of his caliber could do for say New England's offense. We wouldn't want to see that twice a year.

You know I do Pate..just comparing our own players within the formation.

Ricky william's watch's the ball into his hands, then decides where he's gonna run.

Ronnie Brown is watching the Dline and linebackers as the ball is in the air..

The decision making process begins when the ball touches rick's hands, it begins for Ronnie, when the ball is in the air...

The Footwork and handwork to handle the jet sweep properly, to attack the right angle that your oline gives you.... ronnie does all three things simultaneously well.

    Its a peripheral thing imo that makes him special, combined with his skillset of power and moves, ronnie has all three..most players imo cant assimilate the chaos quick enough, ronnie does it in slow motion alongside a heightened sense of awareness that I dont see in other players beside's a few {josh cribbs}

The man has never fumbled or mishandled a snap out of the formation...

Train Pat white exclusively to be His tool within the formation, and continue to evolve it...like it should of been when he was drafted.

This is the most obvious difference between the two. Also, Ricky has a tendency to catch the ball in his chest and run while Ronnie always catches it with his hands.

Some people believe good running backs are easy to find. This team and fans should know as well as anyone how hard it is to find good running backs. Look at all of the trades, free agent busts and wasted draft picks this team has made in their quest for a good running back. Ricky is a good running back and could have been one of the best if not for his meltdown, but in hindsight he wasn't worth all of the draft picks we gave up for him. Ronnie may or may not be injury prone but with his unique abilities and rushing make him a better than average runningback but thats JMO. Just ask Dan Marino how easy it is to find a good runningback.

when they decided to run the wildcat after the Arizona game last season coaches asked who wanted to take the direct snap and ronnie raised his hand
they had no set guy obviously because they asked for a volunteer
they just happened to get the best guy for the job

Its simple mathematics. With Ricky AND Ronnie on the field, the defenders have to worry about 2 great backs. With Ronnie out, defenses can now only focus on one back(Ricky). Again, its actually getting annoying how Dolfans have yet to realize the success of the Wildcat. All the time we hear Sparano and NFL analysts say its successful because of our personnel. Do Dolfans not understand they mean we have 2 good backs? Ricky goes in motion and Ronnie takes the snap. For that split second the defense freezes and Ricky/Ronnie are explosive backs that will make you pay with that split second. Do you really think Lex Hilliard is gonna demand the respect that Ronnie demands? No. So the defense focused solely on Ricky.

There are other teams in the league with two above average RBs on their roster. The Jets have never run it as well. Why is that? Theoretically with Shonne Green, Thomas Jones, and Leon Washington before in their backfield they should have no problem running it as effectively as Miami. They did not. They tried it late last season and it was terrible.
