Interesting. I'd hate to see us take away the starting job from Henne, he needs it to grow even more. But its nice to know that if something bad was to happen to Henne, or if things just weren't improving that we could bring in Pennington.

If I'm running things in Miami, and Penny comes back... My QB rotation looks like this:
    1. Henne
    2. Pennington
    3. Thigpen.

Where does that leave Pat White? I move him to WR, or RB. Something, somewhere where we can get the ball to him in some open space. If he doesn't want to play along, then off you go. I think its in the teams best interest going forward. If he's a WR or RB, we can then use him in the wildcat still. So he's still a running/throwing threat out of that formation as well. I think as a WR, you wouldn't want to send him over the middle, just let him run short little WR screens, get him in space, and let him run and move around out there. Trick plays... whatever. The possibilities could be endless.

The p90x schedule is one of the most physically demanding home workouts out on the market and it is used by celebrities and every day folks alike, but for one man, the experience landed him in the hospital.

If Henne can't beat out Pennington he doesn't deserve to play anyway. He SHOULD be looking over his shoulder. He is NOt Peyton Manning and he hasn't earned the right to be a starter going into the year without earning his job.

Personally, I would have named Henne the starter in TC last year. I had seen enough mediocrity out of Penny to know where things were going.

And I don't agree..........I think Henne does deserve to be the starter going in and he is the best young prospect this team has had since we drafted Marino. I think it would be stupid to do otherwise and just don't see the benefit of bringing Pennington back. We have a good young back up in Thigpen and just spent yet another 2nd rounder on White. There's no way they ditch White and getting rid of Thigpen would be a bonehead move.

Not to mention, Penny at this point........is an injury waiting to happen.

Being our best QB prospect since Marino isn't saying much honestly.

I've been more critcal of Henne than most people as well. There are a lot of things he needs to do better that are simply instinctual and don't usually come from reps in game or practice. Not to say they can't get better, but I think having him look over his shoulder would be a damn good thing.

Penny should be here backing up and mentoring. Trade Thiggy for a pick.

Over his shoulder at Pennington? For what?

Penny is at the journeyman point in his career......if you want to go backwards, that would be a great way to do it.

You want Henne to improve, give him more reps with better targets.....not force him to battle it out with a guy that has already served his purpose and would do nothing but cause a distraction.

I think its a good move, keep him here to continue teaching Henne and he'd be a better backup than Thigpen or White.

I don't know what I said that made you think we owe him something. We don't. But, it'll be great to have him for the leadership ability and to mentor Henne. And if he doesn't want to be a position coach, then sign him as a QB.

Henne is our starting QB. Anyone wanting to make a "donation" by wagering against this, post your bet. Only a gentleman's bet of a bottle, or a fun bet will be accepted.

Guido told me that all cash bets have to go through him. I have been beating him up all year. LOL

    Any takers?

I think they will go w/Pennington & trade Thigpen

could use White as the #3 man in a crisis,
while he finds something else to do making himself useful
like WR, Slot, Returning Kicks, holding the ball for the kicker,
trick plays, the WildCat & Spread offense

Competition is the Elixir of Success

    backwards in what way?

Are you are seriously suggesting Henne is a better QB then Pennington?

What purpose are you referring to.......temporary hole filling?

I'm suggesting he can be.....given the chance.

Or would you rather go back to watching Penny get smothered by good defenses? The wildcat is no longer a surprise to anyone and wouldn't be able to prop him up like it did in 2008.

You take away the wildcat and a surprising performance on defense and Pennington gets booed out of Miami that year....

Defense that year was aided by the offensive performance Pennington directed and a 97.4 QB rating.....doubt he gets booed out....JMO

What Pennington would do without the Wildcat is arguable. I think he would be better then Henne because of years as a pro. Not so much any thing else

But, better is better and then what does Sparano do.......you play the game to win!! So by rule......Pennington would or should start.....instant QB controversy and a lot of complaining from Henne supporters

The other thought here is what if Pennington straight up beats Henne out in practice like he did in 08.......a lot to think about

Henne needs to play to get better. But there is also no guarantee he will get better either. The fact that we have a mediocre receiving core will not help his or Pennington's season.

That is the point I've been trying to make for a long time now. This isn't Madden where player progression is a sure thing every offseason. I honestly don't know that a QB can improve on the things Henne needs to improve on very much.

Feeling backside pressure for one thing. That is instinctual, and it's a huge flaw in his game right now. It's masked a bit because of Jake Long, but that doesn't mean it isnt important.

    I'll agree with that......

Pennington at the end, wasn't much of a threat. Our passing game with Henne at the helm, was starting to become a threat. And that's in his first season...

If Pennington returns, even having an open competition is absurd. That's taking a step backwards. You give Henne the keys and say this your team, now lead it. Not send him into TC to battle it out with a savvy, stop-gap QB.

being able to throw the ball so its easier to catch, with touch and adjust his mechanics to do so without throwing a crap load of picks.(jay cutler)

not having a true number 1 to open up the field for him also is not gonna help him

I actually think Having Pennington in camp competing can help him not only from a learning standpoint but from a competition standpoint.....may the best man win!!

Then I don't understand. How can you bring a guy like Pennington back and not allow him to compete for the starting job. Isn't any position up for grabs at any given time??? What message does that send to a 2nd year QB. If we send the message that you have done enough with a 75 QB rating then I give up on this administration......that is mediocre weather his fault directly or not.

    I for one want to be a winner not a 9-7 , 8-8 team every year:sigh:

Well then you're kidding yourself if you think Pennington would have had any better of a record than that last year....and you can also bet his QB rating wouldn't have been near as good as it was the previous year. Not against that schedule.......he started off 0-3. He was leading us no further than we got with Henne, in his first season.

Pennington at QB this year is nothing but a set back for this team. Time to move on, forward.

this is quite a pickle. unless we can get a draft pick, 5th or better, for Thigpen, I cant see how the staff makes this happen, as much as I love CP.

I didn't say I thought we would have had a better record. I believe you were insinuating that I did. I said that sending the message that a QB rating of 75 is good enough is ridiculous and I stand by my statement. Sending the message that a QB rating of 75 is GOOD ENOUGH to a second year QB is a recipe for being mediocre. Why work hard when you know a 75 is good enough.

If that is the message the Sparano/Tuna regime is gonna send then maybe I should be a Colts fan. At least the desire to win the super bowl is there every year.

And then the question arises are we a better team with or without Pennington.

Sparano and Company have the opportunity to resign Pennington. You sign the player who gives this team the best opportunity to win. Anything less is blatant sabotage IMO

The obvious answer will lie with the doctors. If CP has rehabbed to near 100% it is a no brainer that he is a better QB then Thigpen.....and should be resigned. Now, if CP requires 6 million a year then the answer changes if the money can not be found and structured under the cap. Then again that might not be an issue because we may enter a year without a cap.

You said you wanted to be "winner, not 9-7 or 8-8"......and that a 75 QB rating isn't good enough. And I'm asking if you really think Penny was gonna do any better last year if he hadn't been injured?

You're expecting more from Henne in his first year, than we could have got from Pennington last year. How is that even realistic? I think you highly over rate Penny and he really has no business any longer in the conversation for starting QB. He's served his purpose and it's time to keep moving forward and developing Chad Henne.

Henne's shown plenty enough promise to warrant handing him the job.....and Pennington offers too little for us to be wavering from the course we're on.

per Mortenson on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" this morning, DON'T expect Pennington back with the Dolphins next year. Minnesota or Arizona are more reasonable places. This according to Mort....

I didn't say I expected more from Henne. I said that 75 isn't good enough to win a superbowl (the objective). Weather it was his fault or not that is what he posted. Open Competition makes the team better and bringing in a QB as good as Pennington and not allowing him to compete for the starting job sends a message that being mediocre is acceptable. I don't buy into that logic........it is flawed:up:

I have expected his return since his injury occurred
only makes sense: Pennington returns & competes
the Iceman will improve in all aspects of the game
    @ a faster rate w/ Pennington mentoring/coaching
    it's a win/win proposition
