Imho Crowder should be a bit less flppant, Sparano may not have said anything because they have already decided what to do with both Crowder and Porter.

Sometimes it is better to be screamed at when appropriate than for nothing at all to be said, because when nothing is said, minds are made up one way or another.

With George Edwards landing in Buffalo, Crowder may have some value to the Bills...

Sounds likes our entire defense is going to go through a year or two of instability honestly. With all the player leaving, getting traded, and rookies stepping in I do not honestly see a way we contend for a real Superbowl push for 2-3 years..

Just saying.. Its really unheard of for so much turmoil to be going on, players pissed calling out the coaches, new defensive coaches, players, schemes, it just seems too much is going on to have any real consistency on D.

Joey may need some to carry his bags on the way out the door. Maybe Channing can carry those, since he could never carry the defense.

Crowder is what he is. He will never be a star, and never carry a D. I think he can be a VG role player with better surrounding talent. Kinda like what he was with ZT and JT.

I don't think Crowder even had an average season last year. I think he was fourth or fifth in tackles last season. If I were him I wouldn't be saying anything about anything that wasn't busting my *** to get better.

No argument there. I would much rather him making plays at 100 MPH than running his mouth at 100 MPH.

    Especially with this Porter deal.

    In 2008, Crowder had 113 tackles, 92 SOLO, 6 for loss, and 6 PD's.

    In 2009, Crowder had 51 tackles, 43 solo, 3 for loss, and 3 PD's.

What made him half the player in just one year?

The only thing I can think of is the changes in the surrounding players.

IMHO, Joey Porter is done and needs to be released as soon as possible. He is going to cost alot of money and this needs to be a done deal as soon as they can work it out. He needs to realize that he got diminished playing time, because his on the field play did not equal the level his mouth was talking at. We need to get younger at the LB position and definitely more talented.

well i guess joey n channing didnt like what their actions said, so they reverted to using their mouth to cover their inadequacies

NO WAY I can agree with that, Crowder is not that type of player.

I believe there was a ton of confusion on last year's D. Hill was not there to make the secondary calls, two rookie CB's to cover for, Wilson adapting, JT playing on the wrong side, Ferg's injury, W Allen's injury, the level of competition, and Bell was not what he was.

That's a whole lot to overcome.

Could also have been the fact he missed 3 or more games due to injury... He only played in 13 games this year, and If i recall he left early in a couple as well.

Sure that wouldnt account for 50 some tackles... but just sayin.... If were going to look at numbers here, lets look at them all... not just the convenient ones.

Do you honestly believe that Crowder did not play as well as he could because of a new contract? UNREAL!!!

what the hell's goin on around here...

Dont think I would see someone like mike singletary having a radio show yuckin it up after a disgraceful year...

He doesnt have any traits I want in a linebacker, never has.... IMO, try to get a 5th.

A lot of his tackles are even with him or past him. We seriously need an upgrade at both middle positions.

Look at the history of sports, you will see it happens very often. Players play hard for a new contract, than slack off in the off season the next year and it hurts them.

Did Crowder do it? I could not answer yes or no. But I do know players play harder during contract years.

Personally, I think Crowder is a below average LB, and I was shocked at the money we spent on him last year.

Crowder was also playing next to a darn good LB for many of those years too. So his numbers were going to be down anyway. It very well could have meant that he was just getting better and injuries and other issues on defense helped contribute to the down year.

I don't think Crowder is going to be an all-pro, but I think he can be a very good complimentary LB when paired next to the right player (Ayodele is not that player). In that sense I don't think he's easily replaceable either.

Cali, I'm not here to praise Crowder, nor am I here to bury him.

He has shown some talent, and I cannot see replacing ALL the LB's on the team in one off season, although I would like to.

With Porter very likely gone, Wake having played DE, Roth gone, and JT a question mark, OLB is an even bigger need.

Crowder also took a lot less money to stay in Miami even though his agent thought he was an idiot for doing so.

I don't think Crowder is a below average LB, look at what happens when he isn't in during games... our run defense goes to ****. And that's being rather nice.

Crowder is an above average starter, but he's more suited as a #2 ILB than as the #1 ILB, IMO.

Ya know, fans look at players, and cannot understand why they can be good one year and not so good another. They mostly point to the player, not considering the surrounding circumstances.

Look at JT, in ALL due respect. A DPOY, and then a wash in Washington.

JT will come back if they offer him a fair contract I'm sure. If they want to be tightwads with him then they'll probably ending getting what they're willing to pay for, another OLB who is not as good. Give him a fair deal and make sure you find him enough snaps to make him want to come back. JT at 35 is still better than a lot of options out there. I don't have a problem with Porter being subbed sometimes because he generally wasn't producing, I'm not onboard with starting younger guys just because. This is the NFL, not the MLB farm system. If they let JT walk just to give more snaps to unproven players I will not be happy with that. I don't think JT needs to be off the field for Wake to see time either.

There is just nothing to support that claim. If he was such a great run stopper why was his tackle numbers so low? Why is Yeremiah Bell consistently tackling more runners than he is? Get a real ILB in there and I guarantee nobody will even notice if Crowder is not playing. If he was above average that would make him a #1 ILB on most teams. He's not.

Who would you replace him with?

There's always a catch. When you get rid of a player, he needs to be replaced.

The problem with this is that he's not being paid as role player, he's being paid as a star. I have a real problem with Crowder. He is only good when he is not the focus of the D and being the man in the middle, he is...He disappears in games and rarely makes a play (like our former MLBs have been able to). Sure, he's no ZT or Offerdahl and it's unfair to expect him to be that, but he's not very good for us right now...

Didn't some of the guys here say he was made to play out of position?
And that he wanted to come home to his family, was injured etc.

You guys all know I've never thought all was ever out in the open on him leaving. If he was as much like the press etc. said, why did Tony and he talk and he did come back here?

Don't get all upset with me, you know I'm his champion.

Never get upset with you Debbie, yes he played out of position, but he also didn't work out like he would usually do in the off season, He was dancing and doing the Hollywood thing.

Look at the picture of him when he reported to Washington, than look how he looked coming into this season, he was chiseled coming into our camp because he worked hard.

JT's best position, by far, is where Porter played. Re-sign him, and watch what he can do, where he should have been playing, and ENJOY.

Do you have a link.....because all I can remember reading is that he didn't draw much interest. I think that if that was actually being said, his agent said it.

Because common sense says, most teams should have been able to see that he's a barely average player with an above average mouth.
