Apaprently DC P thinks Wake is still to raw at things like Coverages and Recognition of blocking schemes to be an everydown player in 2010. Imho, Wake's trade value will never be higher than it is right now especially to a 4-3 team that needs a rush end.
We aren't trading Wake pod it is another one of your failed theories just like we when you stated we would be better fit to run the 4-3 aint happening man
Hey now, just because it won't happen does not mean it wouldn't be a better fit..two 4-3 teams in the SB killerp... And I have so many failed theories, who can keep track of them all?
i read pasquolonis comments also and what I took out of it and the reports that our front office feel OLB is the most important to fill this year as being that the organization really is concerned tht Wake is nothing but a one trick pony. I dont know if we trade him but it does seem that they doint have faith that he can become a starter.
Exactly, and I've been Cam Wake's biggest cheerleader since last January, it does speak for itself, the problem isn't just "Wake needs to learn how to cover" it is also he is deficient as an NFL DE, of the two problems, DE is the most easily fixable but in the meanwhile if he is worth a #2 pick, and I've said that for 6 months, then it would make sense to trade him to a number of different teams, Lions, Texans, Eagles, come to mind immediately. Wake is a superb passrushing DE but needs more NFL playing time to hone that skill let alone playing fulltime at OLB. I know folks will point to Elvis Dumervil, but he is 2 yrs younger than Wake and already has a season at OLB under his belt, Wake is basically starting at Square #1 at OLB and he is maybe at Square #3 of 5 at DE.
Trading Wake would be a huge mistake. We should be fortunate we signed Wake from the CFL, and he became the player he is today.
I just want to see what Nolan can do with Wake, I think the combo is great situation for Wake and a breakout season is approaching.
Don't get me wrong Ashie, i'm not saying "we must trade Cam Wake" what I am saying is there is logic behind such a trade. I'd be happy to see more 4 man fronts just to put Wake and Starks on the same side of the Oline.
forgetaboutit not going to happen Wake is the Dolphin pass-rush future they will trade Porter keeping Wake, Taylor, Moses & Anderson @ OLB our needs are @ ILB, NT & maybe a FS thinkaboutit
If this is the case makes you wonder why Roth was released when his position was/is a huge need another WTF moment
Really? Roth would not play when hurt unless he got a new contract, they were not going to give him a new contract and when he came back JT was manning the SSLB position well enough that they no longer needed him. As Roth said "at first everything was beautiful but once I was injured it no longer was..."
I really can't see trading Wake as being a positive move for Miami, unless you are sure the player chosen with that #2 is a bonafide difference maker and a starting player. Trading Wake, who has a definite upside could be a step backward if the player chosen doesn't prove to be a difference maker.
Good stuff! Especially considering Graham got the profootballfocus nuggets right here in the Q&A forum.
I believe we have GREAT 4-3 talent on the DL, which is being squeezed into a 3-4. I do not understand why we are not using the over-abundance of that talent. Instead, we are using more players from our weakest link at LB. Coaches have to adapt to what they have, not what they would like to have. See Shula and Marino.
Dunno why you think the personnel is better suited to a 4-3. Who you think is going to get on the field who wouldn't be normally?
Wake wouldn't get on the field anymore than he did. Its his run defense. If it was just linebacker duties, he would have been out there way more often than he was. As for Merling, potentially, but the guy lined up at DT Justin Tuck style at Clemson. That's the bulk of what he is ineffective at now.
Wake has only played DE for us, not LB, and his run stop duties would be greatly diminished in a 4-3 role. Merling and Starks have lined up as DT's all year for us in a 4-3, and did a VG job.
But, but Joey said HE was the best defensive guy. That he couldn't see giving up time to some one that wasn't as good him. Heard him with my own ears on a vid at the SB.
Yes, and roughly 50% of the responsibilities he was meant to have are those of a linebacker. I'd pretty strenuously disagree about the run duties in a 4-3 being greatly diminished. It's exactly the opposite. Your average 4-3 defense the DEs have to deal with being covered by a blocker. It's not an uncommon duty outside of Tampa-2 type 4-3 defenses. Outside of very few strongside OLBs, 3-4 OLBs are wide of the tackles, or even wide of the tight ends, or even playing unshaded by a blocker. Furthermore, given that Nolan is likely to be running a 2-gap defense, Wake is going to have even more protection on runs going towards him, as the DE next to him will essentially be expected to get between him and the tackle. No, they didn't line up as DTs in a 4-3. They lined up in 4-man nickel and dime packages, but those aren't 4-3 defenses, and Merling didn't do a "VG" job.
