I just dont know on this one,it'll cost us a pick,he's a disruption, and you know he'll want to renogotiate his contract, and to top it all off he's injury prone.

I would offer a #3 and Joey Porter in .0000003 seconds.

Call Wr "done" and then solve the Te and Screen passing issues.

Well, lemmie first say that I am not a proponent for trading draft picks. I have stated this several times before. But, if we could get Q for a third (or later), and at a reasonable cost, I think it could be a really good move.

Q, when healthy, is one of the better (and tougher) WR's in the league. He would add an dimension to our receiving corp that I think we are lacking right about now. And. he's head and shoulders better than anyone else we have too (IMHO). A proven commodity if you will. I think he would make the whole unit better.

And, what if he can be had for a 4th? And, signed to an incentive laden contract? Man, he could be a steal.

Be interesting to see if where there's smoke there's fire.

Pads thats the thing, I dont think WR would be done, remember Boldin had Fitz on the other side....how would Boldin hold up taking doubles every game?? he doesnt strike me as this guy who gets open at will....dont get me wrong, he is strong with the ball in his hands, but considering his injuries, can he or does he have that speed to get off the line as quick as he needs to...I'd do it for a 5th....

that's the thing brother.....I say if you are going to fix the WR problem, do it right, and fix it once....do what u have to....but dont patch work it...and I cant see Q taking an incentive laden deal nor should he in an uncapped year..

I have been on record saying he is not the answer do to his injury history but for a 4th rounder he would be worth the risk.

He had 730 snaps and still topped 1k yds, what Boldin would bring is a balance to Ginn or Hartline on the other side of the formation, who would they double?

And Boldin plays hurt that to me seals the deal, a #3 and Porter?

Even if we ate JP's roster bonus he would still be worth it.

Don't overvalue the #3 pick, and keep in mind how thin the FA wr class is this year, it is thin enough that it is worth while to lock in the player you want instead of openly bidding for a A Bryant.

People tend to overvalue draft picks, especially fans. Sure, there's a tremendous amount of value to be had on draft day -- but only if you select the right players.

For purposes of illustrating my point, let's take a look at the Dolphins' third round draft selections since 2000. Sure, one could argue that the Dolphins have done a terrible job of drafting in the most recent decade, and I wouldn't argue with you. But this exercise is merely demonstrating the caliber of player we're dealing with when it comes to 3rd round selections.

    2009 - Patrick Turner
    2008 - Kendall Langford
    2007 - Lorenzo Booker
    2006 - Derek Hagan
    2005 - Channing Crowder
    2004 - None
2003 - Wade Smith and Taylor Whitley
    2002 - Seth McKinney
2001 - Travis Minor and Morlon Greenwood
    2000 - Ben Kelly

Its worth noting that Jason Taylor was a 3rd round selection, but that was the 1997 draft. Based on the names above, there's no reason to conclude that particular selection was anything more than an abberation.

Now believe me, I do value draft picks because the possibility always exists that a selection will turn out to be a tremendous value, a homerun, if you will (as evidenced by our 3rd round selection in 1997). Thus, trading them should be taken seriously, but that doesn't mean that you pass on making a play for the right player. As our friend Boomer has stated in the past -- "potential doesn't play on Sundays."

Also, just so you all know, I'm not in favor of trading for Anquan simply because I'm holding out hope that we'll have an opportunity to draft Dez Bryant with our first rounder.

Not in a draft year that is deep, I deeply value that 3, I would much rather see them part with the 1st and get Brandon....but according to the article they aren't interested in him...I hope that isnt the case....I would live with giving up a 4th....I don't think opposing teams would double anybody if Boldin was on Miami....Boldin benefited from Fitz greatly IMO....

I'm having a problem with this one as well. IF we believe that we will be legit contenders this year, Boldin is the best option to help us. I'm not giving up a #1+ for Marshall, and cannot see us getting Dez, who are better choices.

IF we do not see our team as legit contenders THIS year, depending on CBA stuff, next season will offer a bunch of young STAR WR's who will be UFA's.

    Food for thought.

This is a no brainer for a #3 so long as the cost doesn't bankrupt the franchise financially.

Who cares if he's a stop gap for 2, maybe 3 years? Heck even if he's injured often. Getting Boldin (who as I recall used to play the #1 spot in Arizona before Fitz right?), would mean we just spent a #3 pick, on a proven WR that we know can produce in the NFL right now from day one. He is physical, and everything that we knock our current #1 receiver, for not being.

How many picks do you look at in the draft that you think will be available at #3, that you can say that about?

The Phins Philosophy so far in the draft has been to double up at "needed" positions due to the potential for a bust. With this, we can wipe WR off the board, and now we're down to 2 critical positions that need to be addressed (NT, ILB), and one that we might want to snag if we see value (FS).

Then next year, or the year after we go back looking for another WR.

If Boldin gets injured, what happens? We go back to using the WRs we used last year, who while inconsistent kept us in, and won quite a few games.

I have to believe that Boldin will help Ginn, Hartline, Bess, Henne, and the team more than any 3rd rounder could possibly do.

Why are so many diminishing or forgetting the DIRE need at OLB? According to the Herald, the team is saying that is our biggest need, and I agree.

JP gone, JT very questionable, Wake played DE, and we are left with Anderson and Moses. And we think Crowder, Ayodele, and Torbor are bad?

If Miami was right there for a Super Bowl, then I say do it, at that point it is a luxury, but with so many other needs, Q isn't making them a contender this year or next, then at that point you are 3 years down the road, and he'll be useless and you wasted a pick..

I just don't see us going after Dez Bryant. Not after investing a 3rd and a 4th round pick in WR's last year. Besides, it's not BP's MO. We still haven't seen if Pat Turner is gonna make the grade or not. If he does, he changes the dynamic of the receiving corp just from a size standpoint. So, unless this FO is willing to concede that he was a bust (and, I doubt they are at this point in time), I just don't them picking a WR in the early rounds of this draft, much less a first overall pick. JMHO.

And, to anyone saying giving a 3rd round pick (any pick really) isn't that big of a deal (based on past draft picks), that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, to me anyway. It's not the pick, it's how the pick is used. You can waste a first round pick (which, we have done time and time again). And, you can just as easily draft a stud in the 5th or 6th round. Zach Thomas anyone? So, yes...I value draft picks very high, because each and every pick gives you a chance to improve your football team. Especially for a team still rebuilding from some horrendous drafts (2007 anyone?).

As for Boldin and his age/injury concerns, which are both valid. I think he's got a lot left in the tank. So, I wouldn't look at his as a stop gap or a bridge. I could see him being very productive for another 5 years, easily. And, as others have already said...he's a proven commodity. So, it would definitely be tempting. But, that 3rd round pick could cost us a potential stud TE (Gresham/Hernandez), or a potential stud LB (Kindle/Edds/Norwood).

Bottom line...I just don't know. I'd definitely be a little conflicted if it were to come to fruition. But, I see it as a good problem to have.

Barring serious injury (knock on wood), Boldin can give us 3-4 years of solid production, which is all you would get out of a 3rd rounder unless it turned out to be a superstar and you signed him long term, and that happens very very rarely.

If we were able to acquire Boldin he would do three things for our team:

    1. Make the WR's we have better. Ginn, as a #9 overall pick, is a bust. BUT if the other team is forced to double Boldin, who I consider to be more of a Mid-field threat, Ginn very suddenly becomes a dangerous man for that defense to cover over the top, and that will keep safeties out of the box to open up running lanes. Not to mention what putting guys like Hartline, Bess, and Camarillo on their 3rd and 4th best cover guys can do for us when we go to wide sets.
    2. Allows us to go defense-heavy in the draft and FA. Our offense was solid last year if you look at the statistics. If we can just give Henne the one weapon he asked for (a big WR) and then let Nolan work with Ireland to bring in guys to shore up up defense and just bring it into the top half of the league, we're a solid playoff team.

    3. Buy us time to get a young #1. Lets face it, our team has a lot of holes and we can't fill them all in one offseason. But a couple years down the road, we may be in a position where we can make the bold move, trading up for the best WR in a draft or trading for a guy like Marshall. Or even better, It allows us the flexibility to draft the mid-round guys like Marshall ourselves and be patient in their development, knowing that the top of the WR unit is already solid. Right now, we can't afford either.

If the cardinals called up and said we could have him for our 3rd, I'd pull the trigger, and I hate giving up draft picks.

disagree, brother. Between the two Boldin is a much better option. I can understand if someone wants to solve the problem through the draft. But if you're talking Bryant v Boldin. Boldin trumps Bryant quickly and easily.
Tell me what about Bryant makes him the better choice?

I just don't see your point. The probability of drafting an ineffective player is far more likely than drafting a stud at almost every point in the draft -- especially when we're talking about the 3rd round.

If you honestly believe that Boldin has "alot left in the tank," then what are you even debating? Its a no-brainer.

Fitzgerald has benifitted just as much from Boldin as the other way around in my opinion. Boldin is so much better than Bryant, I can't even believe that it was brought up. Boldin is exactly what we need, and what Henne would dream of having. I would be loathe to part with the third round pick, but would do it for him in a heart beat.

Boldin for a 3rd should be a no-brainer. The only legit question is the size of the contract he's expecting and that should be a known factor before any trade is consumated.

Umm the draft is where you build your team, while adding some parts via free agency/trades, however draft picks are the main clog of team building if you use them right (as you said), and it is the exact reason why Miami isn't a contender is because they had Mickey the Mopes drafting for them!! Lets look at some people that were still ON the board shall we??

2001--Justin McCareins, Correll Buckhalter, Ryan Diem, Monty Beisel, Russ Hochstein, T. J. Houshmandzadeh, Nick Harper, Antonio Pierce, Stephen Neal

2002--Brian Westbrook, Chris Hope, Larry Foote, Scott Fujita, Aaron Kampman, Chester Taylor, Raheem Brock, Bart Scott, James Harrison

2003--Ricky Manning, Visanthe Shiancoe, Justin Fargas, Shaun McDonald, Terrence McGee, Asante Samuel, Ike Taylor, Robert Mathis, Justin Gage, Dan Koppen, Cato June, Tully Banta-Cain

2004-- they would have picked 88, and mind you they didnt have a 2nd or a 3rd, but lets start after 88....Matt Schaub, Jerricho Cotchery, Will Allen, Jared Allen, Michael Turner, Patrick Crayton, Derrick Ward, Wes Welker, Willie Parker, Jason Peters, Malcom Floyd

2005-- Justin Tuck, Domonique Foxworth, Nick Kaczur, Brandon Jacobs, Marion Barber III, Kerry Rhodes, Darren Sproles, Chris Canty, Bo Scaife, Ryan Grant, Josh Cribbs, Lance Moore

2006-- Owen Daniels, Jason Avant, Will Blackmon, Leon Washington, ohhh looky here BRANDON MARSHALL who was in the fourth, they passed on him twice, Elvis Dumervil, Will Colon, Domenik Hixon, Ryan O'Callaghan, Omar Gaither, Antoine Bethea, Marques Colston, Miles Austin

2007-- Johnnie Lee Higgins, Michael Bush, Clint Session, Le'Ron McClain, Steve Breaston, Kevin Boss, Brent Celek, Bradshaw, Ahmad Ahmad Bradshaw, Pierre Thomas, Melvin Bullitt

2008-- Jamaal Charles, Early Doucet, Steve Slaton, Jermichael Finley, Mario Manningham, Tashard Choice, Orlando Scandrick, Tim Hightower, Pierre Garcon

2009-- Austin Collie, Johnny Knox, Julian Edelman, Rashad Jennings, the book isnt really out on this guys yet..

yeeeahhhhh the draft is pretty important I would say....alot of people we talk about on this very forum could have been had...

How does everyone know Dez Bryant is going to pan out? I'm on the Boldin bandwagon and have been for quite some time. He's a proven player in this league and exactly what Chad Henne needs. A big target. Yes, there is an injury risk but his talent is worth it. Especially for only a 3rd.

All things considered, would you trade Hartline or Ginn for Boldin? This has become my new measuring stick. I would.

Now, consider that we keep both and give up a 3rd rounder, who may or may not amount to anything.

IF we can get Boldin via trade, and a NT in FA, we can focus on LB's, and maybe a FS in the draft. I like this option.

To me, if they target the guy they should pull the trigger and bring him into Miami.

He plays hurt, we have plenty of depth type Wr, and he would help the entire Wr corps as well as Chad Henne, as the Big Tuna has said "you can't invent #1 Wr's"

Indeed, the way I see it if he is dinged up Greg C could easily fill in for him as long as he is on the field for the important AFCE games, his injury issues don't trouble me.

FA won't be what people think it will be this year, take A Bryant for example while true he wouldn't cost a #3, there is no guarantee he winds up in Miami, we all have been through this before with the Calvin Pace's of the NFL.

Miami often is used as a proxy to bid up a FA's price, why take that chance and miss out A Boldin in the meantime?

It's VERY doubtful that Dez will even be there for us at #12, and we will not know before Boldin is gone. I would take a "bird in the hand" with Boldin, and fill our other needs in the draft.

I know my previous posts have been a little contradictory, in that I am trying to look at the possibility of trading for Boldin from both sides. But, I guess my mains points were:

    • Each/every draft pick is important IMO. A third round pick in this draft could net a starter for this team for years to come.
    • Having said that, Boldin for a third makes does make some sense (see Caps post above).
    • Age/injury concerns shouldn't significantly devalue Boldin.

    Like I said...I'm a little conflicted.

    3rd for boldin? yes.

3rd and porter for boldin? yes.

sometimes you have to trade for proven vets at a position of need you can't just always bring in young guys at the spot. boldin is well established. he wants to play in MIA. yeah i know he's had some injuries and yes i know about the sideline thing among those other things. but vontae davis had "character issues" and they spent the 25th pick on him and he was a rookie. why not ship a 3rd or a 3rd + Porter for boldin?

A 3rd + Porter would be a better deal than a #2 from someone like the Patriots.

Cards need a passrusher with Betrand Berry retiring, we probably should dump Porter, we need a Wr and they have one to offer, imho it is a no brainer.

I can see your point bro...although Wilfork might get ***** slapped with the tag, and Hampton wants to stay in Pitt, the NT via free agency might be a problem....they need all there picks to do something with their defensive problem...I would do Boldin for a 4/5th, and JP....although I have to say brother, if they did.....

    1) got Wilfork though FA (never gonna happen)
    2) traded for Q, responsibly
    3) drafted McClain in the 1st

    would love that!
