Any other baseball fans getting excited about this year's edition of the Show? It looks like they've finally made playing a catcher in RTTS interesting. http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/sports/...=convert&om_clk=gsupdates&tag=updates;title;4
I've got the past two and they are great (I only play RTTS). I keep telling myself I won't get this year which means I probably will get it.
I pre-ordered mine a few weeks ago, can't wait to get it. I heard they added a fielder throwing meter (like MVP used to have), if true it will make the game even better.
I'll probably rent it. I love baseball and I love the MLB: The Show but I usually stop playing it after a month or so.
I usually play longer than that, though maybe only 2 months. Still though, I play it like non-stop for that time frame. I'm sure if I wait to get it for like $40 I'll play it the same length though, since I just do RTTS anyway.
I play RTTS almost exclusively. I usually get an outfielder b/c I like to focus on the hitting. I'll probably try out the new catcher mode though.
The problem I have is I usually start a season or franchise mode around mid-April (so I get the roster updates with all the rookies etc that started the year). Then I usually get to May or June on it and some big time prospect will get called up and I'll either want to play as him (if he comes up for my team) or I will still want to play against him in the season so I end up restarting the season/franchise, then of course it gets to July 31st and people get traded all over and I'll restart again, as I always want the rosters to be as exact and complete as possible, it's a bad/annoying habit I know. I think this year I'm just going to stick with my team no matter what (I say this only because it doesn't look like any of the Sox top prospects will be called up this year) after the first roster update is available and if players get traded or called up I'll try to manually do the trade or create the player. So I just might start out by creating Stephen Strasburg and Jason Heyward and just play it out no matter what. Of course it probably won't stay that way.
It all depends on the prospect nappy. The upper echelon prospects sometimes skip single and go right to double and even rarely triple a. it depends on how good you are and how fast the organization wants you up. for you guys that play this. i`ve always had an xbox 360 and never played the show (i usually played 2k). why do you like this game and how is it different from 2k baseball?
When I had a PS3 the first game I got was MLB. The game was amazing two years ago and I can't imagine it's worse now... Everything is super realistic (offense and defense), the career mode (RTTS) is a blast, and online play is fun. I used to roll people online. One of the few reasons I wish I had a PS3. I've never played 2k because I've never heard anyone have anything good to say about it, so I can't compare and contrast. All I know is that MLB is fun as hell.
I've always had a PS2/3, but in 2007 it was the first time I got a MLB game since MVP '05 baseball and I first picked up MLB2K8 and I just hated it right from the start. I didn't like the fielding, hitting or especially the pitching. Everything just felt awkward to me. I had a lot of trouble throwing strikes, especially with off speed pitches and I could never strike anyone out. I ended up giving the game to my brother in law and bought MLB The Show and loved it. Probably because it plays almost like MVP (which in my opinion was the best baseball game made) but it's definitely harder. The control and gameplay between the two games is pretty similar (how you pitch/hitting etc) but I felt that The Show was just smoother. I also feel like The Show has better graphics, gameplay and extras than the 2K Series. I'm not sure if the 2K series is different/changed much since 2K8 but frankly I don't care to even try to find out because I just like The Show that much better. The Show isn't perfect by any means but I think it's the best MLB game out there and I'm still holding out hope that MVP will one day make it's return.
MVP '05 was the last baseball game I really enjoyed. I've been toying with the idea of getting a PS3, and if I do, this is one of the titles I'll be picking up.
The Show is not as good as MVP gameplay wise (MVP still has better fielding gameplays especially with the throwing meter and its easier to pitch and hit with MVP) but the graphics and extras are very very good (although I loved the pitching and batting mini games in MVP '05). If you liked MVP than you'd probably like The Show, just be prepared as The Show is harder than MVP is. With MVP if someone threw the ball up in in to a lefty it was pretty much an automatic home run and there are the tricks when pitching to easily strike out the computer with high breaking balls that they take for strike 3 or throwing a 2 seamer low and inside to RHB, with The Show it's not the case as it's pretty realistic to an actual baseball game (and it's frustrating at times too especially when you get the bases loaded and end up hitting into a inning ending DP). I just wish that the computer could use the bullpen the correct way (mix and match with LHP/LHB etc and use set up men and closers right) as I've never seen a baseball game do that. If you have a PS2, they still sell the newest verison of The Show for it and it's half the price of a PS3 verison. Obviously the graphics aren't the same but overall the two games are pretty close.
But you still have to do a lot of work to become a regular on a major league roster so I don't really have a problem with it. They seem to add something every year that people were looking for so I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some class A ball in there in future titles. I mean they completed revamped RTTS for catchers so I wouldn't be surprised.
This Tuesday it comes out. No demos available for online play for some reason though, which is kind of lame.
I'll be picking it up next weekend. Can't wait. Too bad the A's are so terrible but it will make franchise mode that much more of a challenge.
I want this game bad. Just don't have the time or money for it right now. Why do so many outstanding games have to be releasing right now.
Just picked it up (software update is installing now)....looking forward to it. (traded in 2 games (09 and Il Sturm) and with GameStop discount woot...only $23)
I traded in Kil;lzone2 (finished it twice and the online was trash), Madden '10 (stopped playing because MW2 took over my life) and The Show 09 and they gave me the game AND $2.00 on a gift card...LOL!
I got robbed of a homerun in RTTS today! I hit it like straight down the left foul line, and they called it a homer. Then they gathered and went to look at the replay, and the said it went to the left of the foul pole. ****! It's awesome that they did that, but man did it suck the momentum out of me.
So I turn on the Show today and download the latest roster updates so I can start a season with the Braves with the actual gameday roster. What do I find... in MLB the Show land Braves starting RFer Jason Heyward does not exist apparently. I guess those guys never watch ESPN. But seriously it's disappointing a starting player is left out of their roster update and now I can't start my season I guess unless I create him myself. I sent them a complaint, maybe they'll fix things with the next update that should be out soon.
A real player can't be put into a MLB licensed game per the MLBPA union rules until he has appeared in at least 1 real MLB game. That's also why Jason Heyward t-shirts/jerseys/gear etc weren't available to be purchased by the public until after the 5th inning of his first regular season MLB game, since it's all part of the MLBPA agreement. On the flip side that's why guys like Kevin Millar and Brendan Donnelly aren't in the game (or someone like Bonds from 2002 on since he left the union) because they're not part of the MLBPA union since they are considered scab players. With that being said he definitely should be in the April 12th verison of the updated rosters (since rosters are updated every Monday with the previous weeks Thursday usually being the cut off of roster changes). I haven't checked to see if he was yet, but I'd be surprised if someone like him being left off of it. In the very least he should be in the game by April 19th new roster update.
Does it have the feature where you can dump all the players into a big league wide draft to reassemble the teams? This is one of my favorite things to do in sports games.
I hate this game. I rented it this weekend and I'm doing RTTS and I can't hit worth ****. Seriously I'm awful and it's so frustrating that it isn't even fun
It takes awhile to get use to but I agree it is frustrating at first. Keep with it. Try batting practice to get the timing right
