That might've actually had a lot more merit than this does, seeing as we signed him a few minutes after midnight. This, to me, is pure hogwash as it doesn't disclose any type of "intent" whatsoever, just a fondness for a particular player, and from a 3rd party no less. If it's tampering, it's the broadest definition of it and probably of no real consequence.
Florio has been on this "everything is tampering" kick for a while now. He's just taking the rule to a ridiculous extreme. Everybody knows that teams covet good players. Stating the obvious in a private conversation with an unrelated third party happens constantly and would not be considered tampering by the NFL.
Agreed, this is silly. IF I took the time to research, every team in the NFL would be guilty or, at least the media covering the team. I worry more about if we will win the coin toss on opening day. NOT AT ALL. LMAO.
True true, but look at his avg per cacth and his TD's and compare that to Teds first three years and you have clear separation. Jackson clearly was showing he was going to be a Big time reciever were as Ginn fans are merely clinging on to hope. I'll also be the first to admit I'm still clinging onto a thread of hope myself.
Name|Avg|TD Jackson|17.2|9 Ginn|13.0|5
"Look, Barry, I'm just the janitor. I did hear Chad Henne say he wanted a tall receiver. That Jackson Charger guy is tall, ain't he?"
I was sort of ridding that wagon when Penny was in there. I wanted desperately to believe it was Penny's lack of arm strength that limited Ginn. Then Henne want it and each game he got better and better. And for the most part Ginn remained invisible.
I fuc%$#g love it man LOL...this is funny.. Padre? what's the over under again on potential Paisano signings lol..we need more italians...
That's why I think Antonio Bryant will wind up being a Dolphin. Not because the 'sources in my head' are telling me like a Herald writer, but because it's a Florio story just dying to be written! (link: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ys-antoniobryant121208) Gasp! Tampering!! Wait, that article also mentions Mike Nolan saying, “He was the best receiver we had in San Francisco, in the time I was here...” Double tampering!! *BLAM* *BLAM* Two #1's, that'll cost you!
Don't be alarmed, this is Florio's favorite subject...he thinks that tampering is next to Godliness I think... There is a line between tampering and not and it is a very 'fluid' line at that. For example, how could a deal for Haynesworth have been done in less than an hour after the deadline for signing FAs ?? Same with the deal for Smiley, I think a couple of years ago. That's the type of thing that should be 'investigated'. Who really cares what some coach/scout/FO guy said to a players agent or player for that matter ?? Schmoozing is commonplace in all business and the NFL is no exception. The bantering between agents and FO types has to happen in order for the auction to begin when it does. Who really cares ??
He'd be sweet, but his penchant for getting arrested the week before biggest games of the year, two years running, is troubling. Note, his DUI case from last year has not been completed yet. So he hasn't served his NFL punishment for that yet. Another note, he got arrested for driving without a license this year as well. So he'll have to pay for that as well. Probably at the same time now.
23 ypc is not that bad, actually. VJ is better, but 13 is not bad. We just need more of the attempts that net 13 ypc, and we'd have a very good receiver.
I am FAR more interested in the news that we are seriously considering getting Vincent Jackson!!! Hello, THAT'S big news! It may not end up happening, but it's a big deal, imo.
According to PFT, It doesn't have to be a public statement. They say that the NFL's anti-tampering policy states that no public or private statement can be made. This to me is absolutely ridiculous. What is a "private" statement? Does that mean that Parcells and Ireland can't even talk about Jackson privately amongst themselves to determine whether they'd like to pursue him should he become available? Based on the stated rule (which again I think is ridiculous with respect to private statements) and if what Jackson states is actually true, then I suppose you could say that it's tampering. But, there's a lot of questions that would have to be factually proven to make it stand.
I think it just lends credence to the belief that this FO knows it needs a #1 WR. I mean aside from Ireland already stating that we want a #1 WR and that you probably need to spend a #1 to get one. It really shouldn't be big news. It should be obvious, but some here operate under the illusion that they know what Parcells or Ireland want and that its not a WR.
Unfortunatley, from the story, it sounds more like they think he's a great player than they are considering making a move to acquire him.
Actualy when you compare him to WR's\TE's with 30 or more receptions he is ranked 67th in YPC (This year). So there are currently 57 Receivers and 9 TE's ranked better than Ginn in YPC. Brother that's pretty bad. Yes bro, that is horrible. But the number quoted was his career numbers. Our team as a whole dropped big time in YPC, YPA and all that. Chad's average per pass completed was 10.5 (6.4 ypa) so you can say, Chad was dragging Ginn's average down ...
My hope is that Ginn has his break out year this year and breaks out big (assuming he's still with the team), but truth be told even if use his career avg of 13 he would still be ranked right about 48th. His not a possession WR his only true virtue is his speed so his YPC should be much higher.
When you say Chad I'm not sure which one you are referring to. Seeing as you mentioned drop off I will assume you mean Penny. Well if we break the season down to the two chads this year Gins avg in the first 2 weeks was 11.4 YPC. in the remainder of the season it went up slightly to 12.3. I also don't think blaming the drop off on Henne would hold any water because if we look at the table I posted Hartline is #13 with a respectable 16.3 YPC. Bottom line is Ginn needs to pick up his game.
But if we used his 2008 number he jumps up. My point is, ypc provides an incomlete picture. Look at all the good names below. Reggie wayne, boldin, a name not even on there Brandon Marshall. It could be more a reflection of the routes the coaches decided they were going to run. Remember Ginn's game in Indy where he caught 10 passes. Most of them were designed to get 10 yards and that's what he got. Plus you ranked them by ypc. If you look at top receivers, their YPC numbers are all over the place. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...ualified=true&Submit=Go&tabSeq=0&d-447263-p=1
Previous regimes had the Annual 2nd Rounder For a QB Derby. This regime has the Annual Search For a Big Giant WR Squaredance. First it was Wilford. Then Pat Turner. Let's hope our courtship of Jackson turns out better. I get tired of bringing in a 6'5" receiver once per year to be only 4'8" high as he sits on the bench all year. That said, Jackson is younger than Boldin, cheaper than Boldin will be, less of a diva, and bigger. He even runs a faster 40 than Boldin... significantly faster. Boldin clocked in at 4.71, Jackson at 4.46. I'd like to see their 10 yard split times though, as those are probably comparable. The long-legged Jackson simply eats up more yards per stride once he is at full gait.... which is one of many reasons he is dangerous down the field. He is tall, jumps well, has enough speed, is huge and physical on jockeying for contested balls, and cannot be pressed at the line or tackled easily. He even runs decent routes, though he is no Wes Welker on his cuts. Is this the ANTI-Ginn or what?
Maybe someday they'll invent a quarterback who can make Ginn the player he could be if everyone wasn;t preventing him. Until that magical QB is invented I suppose Ted will have to suffer with QB's like Pennington (most accurate in history, but a short passer) and Henne (average accuracy but a powerful gun that can push the ball down the field). I am curious just what the makeup will be of the magic QB which is nothing like either of those two and will finally get out of Ted Ginn's way. He's obviously too good for the QB's we've had. They're the problem. Ask Davone Bess or Greg Camarillo. They have massively underachieved on their talent level because they were limited by our QBs.
So Parcells and Ireland are taking a leak in an airport men's room and one says to the other: "Wow, I'd really love it if we could have Peyton Manning at quarterback." Someone sitting in a stall hears it and e-mails PFT. Is that tampering? I mean, shouldn't it require an intent to communicate interest to the player, directly or indirectly?
The rule is BS anway. What different does it make if a team only expresses and interest in a player. Most teams do anyway and it's not like we held meeting with jackson or whoever and have deals all hammered out and done before FA starts. And that happens anyway. How else can someone sign a player at the stroke of midnigh to start FA?
Without question YPC doesn't tell the whole story. Stat's themselves never tell the complete story. There are always many other things to take into consideration , competition, Injuries etc all come into play. But in three years Ginn doesn't have one stat as a WR that we could hang our hat on. If he's still in a Dolphin uniform this season and I expect he will I will be rooting as hard as anyone for him to succeed. For all we know things will click for him next season. I truly believe though that at best he will be a solid #2 receiver. I love Hartline and I think he too is a solid #2 or slot receiver. Which leaves a huge void where our #1 Receiver should be
