Even if the Dolphins miss out on Dez in the first, there are plenty of receivers that could end up providing great value later in the draft. http://www.pressboxonline.com/blog.cfm?ID=2022
I just can't agree with this sentiment. I see a bunch of role players. There's Dez Bryant and everyone else. Golden Tate has legitimate ability to be a top tier WR. Demaryius Thomas, if he hits a homerun speed-wise, he will be legitimate #1 potential. If Brandon LaFell could catch the damned ball he'd be legit #1 potential. Jury still out for me on Damian Williams, who I have been very impressed with in the past. After that though...it's tough out there.
I'll have to disagree as well. As CK said, it's Dez and everybody else. Though there are a few late in the draft I'd be willing to gamble on. Like say should Jacoby Ford be available in the 5th, I'd have no problems taking a gamble.
Last year we couldn't stop the pass at all. We got burned game after game. I think we can't afford to spend our 1st round pick on Dez Bryant when we have such needs at ILB, OLB, NT and FS.
Benn is the only other one IMO who flashes impact potential while displaying less of the "worries" than everyone else has. If no Dez in 1, then I very much want Benn in 2. At least we can find ways to get him involved while he learns his route tree..... and he'd be a great asset on the field during the WC. Antonio Bryant, Hart, and Benn would do some damage!!!! Throw in Ginn on 4 WR sets.... and we no longer have to see FB's and lumbering TE's spit out wide.
If we don't draft Dez 1st or Benn 2nd, then Williams in the 3rd would be my next guy. I have virtually zero concern with his character. He's actually a good, respectful kid and far from a prima donna type. B/c of what's happened to him, I see him really busting his butt for the lucky team that drafts him. He feels like he has a lot to prove to himself right now. He just needs a good team with good coaches and a strong supporting cast to build him back up. I would probably prefer Williams than LaFell, but that's just me.
Benn still concerns me because I don't know that he does what you absolutely need at the next level and that is get open against tight man coverage. He seems to have a lazy rudder and that's not going to help him, it even puts his notable RAC abilities into question though he has a lot of power and superb hands.
1. Now I have *definitely* heard everything. 2. If you don't buy that he is in any way, shape or form a character risk, then he's worthy of at the very least the #43 pick, if not the #12 pick.
People are labeling him as a "character concern", but I don't see him as a character risk as far as being a "bad apple" or "problem child". I think he's shown some immaturity and made a few dumb kid mistakes, but not a character risk..... which, IMO, is not reflexive. But that's just my view. LOL. I would prefer to draft an immature kid who is in the process of growing up than I would a true "character risk" kid who has a bad attitude, lack of respect, or problem with authority. It's a lot easier to grow up (especially after a time of crisis) than it is to reform an attitude. Most all of us eventually grow up. His immaturity will hopefully push him into the 3rd.
I wouldnt touch Benn witha ten foot pole. The "flashes" that he has shown have been too far and few in between. The guy has bust written all over him.
b/c he "is" lazy or b/c he just doenst have it? Do you think his size and strength will impact how corners play tight man vs him? I'll be very curious to see his 10 and 20 times.... and shuttle.
You're killin me today. I honestly assess him as being immature rather than bad character..... but that's just my psych side coming out. Why does yours feel he's a bad apple? My strong suit is reading people, but that certainly doesn't mean I'm 100% accurate, so I'm always curious to get others' opinions who are adept as well.
Chris, do you have a breakdown of Benn on film? I thought he showed improvement through this year but it's pretty hard to tell when you have.... when you have..... when you have..... Wait, who was their QB again?
Add me to the disagree list. I see Bryant and then everybody else. I'm sure somebody will surprise, but as prospects this is not a good WR class.
At least with Benn, if he doesn't work out at WR, we'd have a darn good pass catching RB in the making. (He and Ronnie would make a great duo IMO). I think he could be a weapon if used correctly. He could be lined up all over the field and would be a big mismatch vs LBs. Love his balance and how he keeps his feet constantly churning. I can't imagine this kid in 2 years when he's 230+.
