I do not believe that Pitt will franchise Hampton. They are the first team to say that they will treat this season as if there were a cap.

They have not been known to pay the big contracts.

I would LOVE Wilfork but, do not see it happening. Pickett and Johnson may be alternate solutions.

I don't know. It's a weird situation for a team like the Steelers and how they handle contracts. They are definitely smart in that regard, but do they really have an option with Hampton? In other words, I think he's signed to another deal.

Yeah, you're probably right RR. I guess it's just wishful thinking on my part. Partly because I really think McClain is gonna be a good one, and partly because I really wanna see Crowder jettisoned (along with Porter). I would just love a complete overhaul of the LB position (inside and out). But, like I said...that's prolly just wishful thinking on my part.

Crowder would be adequate with Dansby in fold. And, I'm sure signing Dansby would shift the focus away from McCalin (if it's even on him at this time), and onto other potential players with that first pick (Weatherspoon maybe?). In truth, I think it would make trading down look like a very attractive option.

    We shall see...

I could get giddy about signing him in a heartbeat, just afraid to get my hopes up, yet.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I would love if they drafted McClain to play next to Dansby, but I'd prefer to nail down another position as you SHOULD get an immediate impact player at 12.

You don't think McClain would be an immediate impact player considering the questions surrounding our LB play? It would be so nice to have 4 good linebackers who can play cocnsistantly.
I am not saying that there aren't players who can be drafted to provide an immediate impact, just saying McClain could be that also.

Chances are that you are right on Hampton re-signing a short term deal. I do not see any NT in the draft who I would count on to make an impact this year.

Cody has bust written all over him. Williams would make a good combo with Soliai but, too many other holes to fill. I'm hoping for a vet, and a later round pick to develop.

IF push comes to shove, Starks may be able to fill in a bit, depending who is behind him.

We got KILLED on the pass. McClain is not going to help that. Dansby will, and so will Kindle.

This is now a pass happy league. Yet, many here want to stop the run. How many of our losses were due to teams running over us?

Hating Crowder does not help "our team."

Killer, Don't you know anything about our team. Mr. Anderson will be the "Matrix" and Moses will part the sea of the OL.

GODDAMNIT, you're just not following our talent. LOL

I didn't say that. McClain would most likely be an impact player. What I said was that if we had Dansby, ILB wouldn't be so dire.

The second this regime chose not to cut or trade him, he became their player. Same with Channing Crowder, Vernon Carey, Greg Camarillo, etc.

if dansby and wilfork are available & doable good, could even throw in a FreeSafety to boot!
    however
if only one is possible: wilfork

Yeah, I feel ya. I mean, I guess that kid from TN is pretty good? I'm not a draftnik, so I might be off on which the team he played.

I am not quite giving up on Furgeson and drafting a kid for the future. Regardless of Furgeson's total snaps/games played, I think if he can hold up for over half of the games and bring in a true 3-4 double-team NT rookie slowly, it could help, especially with the depth of Starks and Soliai.

Bringing in a stud ILB and having a good pass rush might be able to hide some of the deficiencies in the interior D-line.

That is sooo untrue. JP's cap hit was prohibitive in cutting or trading him.

The team "chose" to re-sign Crowder, Carey, and Cam. The same cannot be said of Porter. How can you compare them? :)

Ferg is the ultimate pro, who has done nothing but good for our team. Many may not appreciate what he has done. I do, and his play and leadership made our DL.

I think he wants to retire but, would probably come back for one more shot with Tuna. I can think of worse options.

There is such a thing as contract restructuring.

I can compare them because the coaching staff and front office made the decision in 2008 to retain these players, and our 2009 free agent activity primarily consisted of re-signing our own players: Carey, Crowder, Bell, etc.

Further, Sparano himself described the holdover players as "his guys." He's taken ownership of them, just as Mike Tomlin has taken ownership of Bill Cowher's players and coaches in Pittsburgh.

Dansby in the middle with Crowder, Wake coming off one edge, and JT off the other, we need someone to play center field for us......can u imagine?? maybe Wilfork as well....get them both!!! worry about the cap in 2011...

Plus Nolan devising schemes for the defense.....wow....

if we land Dansby that would be great but no matter what this team needs outside linebacker help in a bad way.
dont expect jt to be very consistent this season especially as the year moves along
if dansby comes to the dolphins we HAVE to draft an OLB in the first round

Problem is the player has to agree. JP wouldn't agree to less money.

IF ratings stay the same after the combine, we can trade down around 5 spots, and still get a Kindle in addition to another 2nd or 3rd rounder. That would be perfect.

Who did you have in mind for depth in this draft at a 3-4 OLB? I see more on the inside like Spikes, Weatherspoon, etc but, few outside.

Nor would the union. It takes more money, and a longer contract, to re-negotiate a deal. NOT a good idea.

they got Sean Spoon at olb in most of the stuff I reading up on....Kindle (love your idea of trading down a couple of spots if they get dansby..LOVE IT), but other than those guys, Muckelroy impresses the hell out of me, Ricky Sapp, Graham, Bowman, although they say he is more of a 4-3 cat, Rennie Curran is a guy who could drop to the 4-5 round, only 225....but watch video on this guy, quick to the sidelines and one helleva tackler...but I love love love Muckelroy, god I hope he is there in the second if Kindle isnt...

dude if they traded down after getting Dansby or Wilfork (if he escapes the tag), grab Kindle and then if Muckelroy is there in the second I would crap myself....

question Matty if Wilfork and Dansby are UFA's who do u grab?? I'm stumped....I say Wilfork...

This idea will probably go over like a lead balloon here, but if we sign Dansby and move Crowder to Akin's old spot, I wonder if we would consider, our coaches that is, at trying Akin at Sam. He entered the league and during his time in Jax, played OLB. He is strong and has good size, and may do well at setting the edge as a Sam. Then again if we sign KD, we may just cut Akin. Given the uncertainty at OLB, until after the draft, I'd hang on to Akin till we see how the draft shakes out.

I'd hope he keep Ayodele simply bc we have no depth at ILB and Crowder has been injured quite a bit.
