I cannot wait for this game either...much like with Heavy Rain. This is my one must have 360 game this year and it sucks for PC people they'll miss out.
gotta love the psychological thrillers coming to the consoles. what a great direction the industry is headed.
Agreed I love a good FPS but an industry dominated by them would kind of suck and that's been the trend lately.
this is why nintendo will always have a place in the gaming industry. Say what you will about their franchises, they are all very different than shooters. (even metroid prime isn't really shooter)
Their franchises are different from FPS games, yes... but all of their games are similar to each other. The latest Mario is like the previous Mario, the latest Zelda is like the previous Zelda... But this is about Alan Wake, not Nintendo, so let's not take this further.
5 years I've been waiting on this one since they first announced it. Somehow no matter how awesome it is I think it will disappoint me on some level just cause of the time waiting on it.
March is still the reigning king, IMO. July is going to be a big one: Dragon Quest IX on the 11th, Starcraft 2 on the 27th. (I don't care if I'm the only person here who even knows what Dragon Quest is, it's still a big game. So there.)
Played through Episodes 1 and 2 last night. Very very good. It's like Heavy Rain mixed with old school Resident Evil. Very creepy and entertaining story line. I like the character of Wake and his supporting cast. Gametrailers ripped the acting and characters pretty hard but I didn't feel that it was anywhere near as bad as they made it look. I plan to grind it later tonight until 3AM and hopefully beat it.
I'd feel better about referencing Gametrailers if not for their incomprehensible ratings system and especially their annoying review taglines. Their Rainbow Six Vegas 2 review: "Has the sequel doubled down, or is it a big bluff?" Their Mass Effect review: "Is this RPG out of this world?" Their Uncharted review: "Does this live up to its name or does it tread familiar terrain?" Note to GT: STOP THAT. I want to punch the review narrator every. Single. Time.
I'm on the final chapter... I usually get bored of survival horror games an d stop playing. Kudos to Alan Wake lol
Sounds right. The game was strong until the very end though. It is rather cheap of them if the DLC is required to fully get the story. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for some DLC... As EXTRA content. Not required content.
FYI they are already talking up Alan Wake as just the first in a running series. So I don't know how it ends but if it feels like there are loose ends...that would be why. They really hype it up as far as running it like 'tv show seasons'
Well it plays like a TV show series. Between chapters they have a whole montage saying "Previously on Alan Wake". I liked that. I'm just saying, if you're gonna make a series, do that. Don't force feed DLC onto people in order to get the full experience. It's not like GTA or Fallout3 where you can not buy the DLC and still feel like you played the game in full. In this game, if there's loose ends, it should be tied up in sequels or the game itself. Not in a DLC pack people have to buy.
Ah get used to that. Companies are really fighting used sales and torrenting by doing more and more of this. As the costs rise to make games they are going to get more and more protective of their sales. That DLC comes with the collectors edition.
Ok finished it. Had a blast all the way through. The add-on content is purely filler between season 1 and season 2. So there's no content your actually missing. It's just fluff in between. Plus the first download came already bundled code wise with the game. It did feel a lot like an evolution of Max Payne stylistically. As far as how long it took....Remedy is like that. They don't run a large team. They tend to run at 1/3rd to 1/2 your standard development team. I'm just not sure how they can get season 2 out in any reasonable time without some help developing it.
If this is sarcasm, I feel you. This kind of game makes me want to just go read a book. Looks like I'll go with RDR.
