Personally, I like the idea of slowing the ice down a little bit. The track is simply too fast and technical for the experience level (or lack there of) of some of the competitors. The womans start line part is silly though. The safety measures should have been a no brainer. I am having trouble trying to figure out why it was not there to begin with. When you look at the track, if anyone left the surface they were in big trouble.
Great day for USA Canada has 1 Silver so far....Gonna take a big effort to win the most medals BTW that Canada-Slovakia score is terrible for women's hockey 18-0
As of this morning Feb 14 (Valentines Day) Country Total UNITED STATES 1 1 2 4 SOUTH KOREA 1 1 0 2 NETHERLANDS 1 0 0 1 SWITZERLAND 1 0 0 1 SLOVAKIA 1 0 0 1 CANADA 0 1 0 1 GERMANY 0 1 0 1 POLAND 0 1 0 1 AUSTRIA 0 0 1 1 FRANCE 0 0 1 1 BTW: Nice to see all those protesters smashing windows
Actually he didn't. He wasn't even gonna medal until that Korean dude alomst took out his whole team.
ya and the yankees werent gunna go to the world series until aaron boone hit a walk off homerun either.....its all fair and part of the sport.....he won the silver medal. point blank.
and Canada has their first Gold of the games, and on home soil as the host country! Alexandre Bilodeau in the freestyle moguls!!
He sure did. I'm not debating that. The orginal poster said he had a great race. I was simply pointing out that that wasn't true.
Canada's gold couldnt have happened to a better guy, and he couldn't have beaten out a better opponent in Begg-Smith... Who I've been calling a Traitor all night. Canadian born and raised, skied for Canada at one point, and now skiing for Australia, and he gets beaten by Bilodeau. So great for Bilodeau and for his brother, who has cerebral palsy, they are heroes to one another. Doctors said his brother wouldn't walk past age 10, he's 28 now, and still walking. Great story really. Great night for Canada. I believe he's been granted persmission as well to have his brother come up on the podium with him tomorrow night to get his medal.
For more on Alex Bilodeau, his story, and his victory... check the links below. The video story on him and his brother is pretty awesome IMO. Not sure of the USA feed but in Canada is has been awesome with CTV, TSN and sportsnet showing everything live
such an amazing story! So glad Alex Bilodeau won the gold.....i am all misty-eyed watching this.....this is what the olympics are about man....good stuff
Damn right bro! It sure is a great story. For him, his family, and the entire country really. As I said yesterday, it couldn't have happened to a better guy, to be the first Canadian to win Gold in Canada. The medal ceremony was awesome to watch. I wasnt so sure I liked the idea of giving out the medals the day after, at a nightly ceremony inside the big stadium that is BC Place. However, after seeing the ceremony tonight, the crowd in there, its gotta be a really cool feeling for the athletes to get their medals in front of 24,000 (thats the capacity of the stadium in its configuration for the medals) fans, rather than the few thousand that are at the event live as it happens. Anyone who hasnt watched the background stories on Bilodeau I posted earlier, needs to go back up a few posts and check them out!
The roof is coming off GM Place tonight when Luongo is introduced as the starter. My boy Bergy is playing with Syd. For the first time is 3 years Bergy will have a finisher on his line. LOL!
We have some strong chances when short track gets going again and we will win a couple in womans long track.
Another Gold for Canada is snowcross Canada 0-0 with Norway....looks like the same issue as 2006 we can't score.....why again was Stamkos left off the team Still have 42 minutes, but I was hopeing for a 8-0 win
Great news on another gold! I believe both men's and womens' curling teams won today as well in their first matches. Im a bit surprised to turn the game on at the end of the first and its 0-0 with Norway. I was just saying that to my girlfriend though, the powerplay looks useless, and they cant seem to score. I'm not going to worry just yet, its the first period, the team should need a bit of time to gel. They've had that one period, now its time to get out there and play. I dont think we'll see any blowouts in the mens tourney. Most of the countries in this thing have nhl players on their teams, and most that dont have hockey programs in their countries to develop players. It's not like the womens hockey teams where most countries just throw together teams with whatever they can find. Speaking of womens hockey, they've destroyed both teams they've played, and meaghan agosta is on fire! 5 goals in two games! smokin hot! her game right now, and her looks She's a local around here as well, growing up about 20 minutes or so from here. They should have a good matchup tomorrow night against sweden.
Yup, looks like Babcock laid into them at the intermission. Enough checking each other out, get out there and play. Theyre playing a much more aggressive game now. Going hard to the net.
its 8-0 Canada with 2 minutes to go, it appears you've gotten your wish! I guess I was wrong about there probably not being any 8-0 routs in this tournament...
I also want to win the Gold medal by beating Russia.....I got my 8-0 wish hopefully the more important wish comes true
UT, my boy Iggy finally got put on the line he should be on and he got a hat trick! I like Berg and Richards together. I think they make a great line. Man the quarters and finals are going to be some of the best hockey ever played. Canada, Russia, Sweeden, USA and the Czech's all have some great talent. This is going to be one hell of a tourney. Go Canada Go!
Don't forget the Finns....those are good teams so it is important to finish in the top 2 so you can play a Germany type team in the quarters

Gold Medal Christine Nesbitt!! http://www.vancouver2010.com/olympi...le-and-results/ladies-1000-m_ssw010101eE.html
Well... the Swiss sure gave Canada a good game tonight. I was amazed how well the Swiss did on the penalty kill, and defensively in general. their sticks were very active, breaking up passes, knocking away the puck, and Hiller was outstanding for the swiss. I felt Canada wasnt being aggressive enough though. Too much passing around for cute plays, not enough shooting. Hurts to loose that extra point tonight, Must win game Sunday now against the US.
Well the Own the Podium is done IMO....The Americans have been on fire with a 17-7 lead already with another one probably coming tonight Still a decent Olympics but if you want the most medals you can't have the Patrick Chan's and Denny Morrison not come through As far as hockey goes we will not be a 1 or 2 seed now (should be Russia or Sweden) which means win or lose to the USA our game in the quarters will be versus the same USA or a Finnish or Czech team.
I missed it but what a win by the Slovaks....This tourney is getting crazy....Could we see a Russia-Canada quarter-finals So who starts in net for the huge game Canada-Usa on Sunday...I say it will be Miller vs. Luongo
I really like that Richards, Bergy and Toews line. 3 responsible players. Bergeron and Richards will be needed as the tournament progresses and Canada is short handed more. That is when those two will shine in the roles they are given. There are some issues already cropping up in my opinion. The powerplay is too static. Not enough people moving around. They are busy trying those cross seam passes and trying to make it look pretty. I like what they do when Weber is out there though. Get it to the point, let him blast away and get to the net, not enough of that though. Joe Thornton is already showing his disturbing tendency to try and slow the game down. As the tourny progresses the games will get faster. If Canada plays Russia that game will be a breathtaking pace and Thornton won't be able to slow it down. Watch him as the game speeds up, he always gets taken off the puck. I hope Chris Pronger learned his lesson. If he does what he did against the Swiss against Russia or Sweden we'll be digging one out of the back of our net. I love how Babcock is running the bench. If you are going you'll see ice, if you are not you'll sit. A perfect example was last night. Iginla had a hatty game one but was invisible against the Swiss. He had a seat. That said I do have a few issues with him... My boy Bergeron should take every single important faceoff. I'd like to see Babcock trust him a little more though. He has offensive skill and is one of the best players in the NHL at digging it out along the boards. I know Babcock wants chemistry but to me some things are not working. Ryan Getzlaf is a monster and I know he plays with Corey Perry a lot but Perry and Staal have been fairly invisible thusfar. Brent Seabrook looks a little overmatched. He's the #7 right now on defense. Drew Doughty makes a huge mistake costing us a goal (Marty should have been further out) and gets a spot at the end of the bench but he sure did make up for it. I thought he was our best d-man from the middle of the 3rd and OT. Hard to believe he is 19. I hope he has a lot of bookshelf space because he'll need it for the half dozen Norris trophies he's going to win. I'd like to see some lines switched around: Staal-Crosby-Nash Shark Line Morrow-Getzlaf-Iginla Richards-Bergeron-Toews I'm really down on Perry right now. Don't get me wrong, he is a fine player but I think his footspeed (or lack of) is showing. Get him out there on the PP in place of Morrow and get him some shifts when we have offensive zone faceoffs. I'd love to see what Syd could do with all the soace Staal and Nash would open up for him. The Shark line is set in stone. I like what Morrow brings, especially on the forecheck. He is going hard and killing guys when he gets a chance. I think the 4th line (Richards, Bergy and Toews) should be left alone and allowed to get some chemistry. They could be a force. Huge game Sunday. I'm going to try and get downtown to watch it at one of the million public/outdoor venues.
