Developing..on the ticker on MSNBC and Foxnews. Will post more details as they come in. This is horrible..I know that whale. Always seemed pretty nice.. My daughter loves Shamu and owns Shamu plush toys...one of her first words ever uttered? yep..."Sha---Mooooo".
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationw...orlando-shamu-injury-20100224,0,5560011.story Shamu came up from behind a female trainer and bit her...then thrashed her around and killed her at the start of a show.
This is right. The Orlando station that was on with MSNBC said that it was before a show as the Lady was explaining the show.
Tic tac stuff. The woman explains the show right before the action starts. That's part of the show!!! Bottom line. Theatre was full to watch the "show"
Truly sad on every level. Much like Section, both my daughters were murmuring "Mu Mu" at an early age. I bet the whale was pissed cause they haven't changed that cheezy storyline of the kid on a kayak that carved the wooden whale tail in several years.....
On CSI episode in 3..2.. Sad really, trainers tend to really enjoy their work and Orca's are not known for being aggressive towards humans.
Well, they are called a Killer Whale ... though I've thought that to be a misnomer. It is an animal. Reminds me of hearing about the Tiger mauling Siegfried and Roy a few years back. Or the Crocodile Hunter a few years ago. It's a calculated risk working with wild animals. My thoughts go out to the trainer's friends and family.
MSNBC news article link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35566392/ns/us_news-life/ According to the article, the orca in question (Telly) is also responsible for two other deaths. Sad. Prayers to the family.
The whales name is Tillikum and is the largest whale in captivity. in 1999 the corpse of a nude homeless man was found draped across one of the whales in this very tank. it was speculated that the man snuck into the park and took a swim in the whale tank. the whales then did their thing.
not funny... you should be ashamed of yourself... wait till the teacher finds out your not paying attention!
BW ... the actual Shamu died in the '70s. Now "Shamu" just refers to all the Orcas. It's sort of like The Blue Man Group.
You never know with animals. No matter how domesticated they are, they're still animals. Not to say that they can't be trusted, no. Just reiterating that their minds are different than ours. Their instincts are different than ours.
well I guess, now we know why they call it.............a........killer.........whale....... YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Dammit, I am being so hypocritical by finding this horrible thing amusing at all, but I can't escape the black comedy of it. I apologize.
really?...then you are gonna love this link that some ******* friend of mine just sent me. http://www.seaworld.com/sitepage.aspx?PageID=593
Honestly, I wonder if the trainer woke up this morning, took a shower, looked in the mirror and queitly said: "I sure hope I get eaten today"...... :leaving2:
Same friend of mine that sent me that link tells me that if there is "video" of this event..if it exists, is worth at least 100k immediately. (cash in the hand) is this true?
This is not the video, but some other incident... this guy was really really lucky! I'm sorry you have to be crazy to get in the same tank as that. I'm surprised stuff like thios doesn't happen all the time. Also I'm betting Japan is putting a bid on Telly.
