This just made my whole evening I had to share guys. This would be great if we indeed do get him There is reportedly "combine buzz" that the Dolphins are willing to pay to get free agent LB Karlos Dansby. Signing Dansby would reduce the Fins' lengthy list of needs to outside rusher, nose tackle, free safety, and wide receiver, presumably in that order. Dansby wants $30 million guaranteed from his next team. Miami won't pay that much for the 28-year-old, but has no impact inside linebackers currently www.rotoworld.com
$30 million guaranteed??? That's a lot to chew on. I mean, I am not saying the guy ain't good, but DAMN! Since this is "word on the street", I wonder how many other NFL insiders know? I bet word travels fast, and I have heard teams like the Giants being interested. Guess nothing is really 'in confidence' these days concerning NFL news.
im confused here.first it says we are willing to pay him to bring him here then it says he wants 30m to which it says we aren't willing to pay...so are we willing to pay him or not?
I think it is just relaying what Dansby wants and, although, Miami will pay him, I gather that $30 million is too much of an asking price. I suspect he gets somewhere in the $21-$24 million guaranteed range. It's the same way when one negotiates a salary for a job. Always go high with hopes they will come up some.
yea the 21-24m sounds much better.thats a crazy amount garuntee but some team is gonna willing to pay it.lets just hope he wants to be here enough to take a 6-9m price drop.i would be tickled pink.
30 milly isnt good guys come on.....?!?!? it is going to hamstrung us...FYI..just because there is an uncapped year DOES NOT mean that teams are going of the deep end this watch......I actually expect the opposite...
No offense, but this seems like a lot to do about nothing. The article contradicts itself and doesn't have a legit source. Just because Greg Bedard believes it, shouldn't really mean much to the rest of us.
Sounds like alot because it is. But if this years cap is based more on the descretionary wherewithal of Mr. Stephen M. Ross, I certainly won't be fretting over sticker price.
I am way in favor of signing Dansby because of the freedom it allows us in the draft. You remove Ilb from the big priority list so we can get our Olb or NT in the 1st. Don't forget that Rolle is still out there waiting to be released. If these two somehow manage to be on this team next year it will go a long way to closing the defenses holes. Especially with Nolan coaching up the D. The next week is going to be very interesting!
Yeah, that's probably the only way it happens. Good point. I have a feeling some of these players are getting P-A-I-D this year (not that they already aren't).
The only problem is that the uncapped year also restricts increases in salary fom 2010 to 2011 to I believe under 30% (to lazy to look it up.) So most the money will be needed to be paid in guarenteed upfront cash. This means the salary which will count against the cap (assuming the NFL gets back to capped) will be relatively small. So you can easily see a player like Dansby holding out with a couple years left on their contract due to the small salary, regardless of the large guaranteed cash they got years back. A "what have you done for me lately" type problem could be brewing. All these types of troublesome things are built into the uncapped year procedure so that it wouldn't have gotten to this point.
If we sign him, we can take BPA at 12 from FS, NT, OLB or Dez if he falls to us. Would be nice. Gives us lots more options in the draft, hope this happens.
I think they are saying we are going to be willing to pony up a lot of cash just not 30 mil that he wants up front. IMO, signing Dansby would be huge for the Fins. It would totally take ILB early in the draft off the board and allow us to focus on other areas of need.... such as OLB.
signing Dansby would not take ILB off the draft board ... as our depth at the position would still be woeful. It just means we wouldn't have to draft an ILB in rds 1-4 ....
Rich Tandler from 'Real Redskins' tweeted this earlier: Link: HERE I kinda figured they would. Last year, they sign Haynesworth for $41 million guaranteed. They are notorious for opening their pocketbooks. I just hope they do not put us out of the running for him. With Shanahan there, and the solid defense they have, I could see Dansby considering them.
Dolphins have never played highest bidder on big name FAs. For that I'm grateful. I'll be stunned if they do it here.
I would expect our FO to pretty much do what they've been doing with FAs. They'll offer what they believe to be a fair and reasonable amount of money to the FA and if he wants to be in Miami he'll sign. If all he's looking for is the most money he can squeeze out of a team then he'll play somewhere else. I would love for Dansby to be here. However I don't want them to tie up so much money in one spot that we end up unable to give adequate attention to other areas of concern.
Someone please send this excellent post to the FO. This could be exactly what they tell the FA visiting. Bottom line is we are building a great team that will content for many years. Be a part of it at a good price and chase a title or chase just the money somewhere else.
the more i think about this the more i want to say skip dansby's 28-30 mil garuntee.the only reason i say this is because we have a nice ilb sittng at the 12 for us that wont cost nearly that much.use fa to bring in a upgrade at fs(if available) then either pick up a nt or golden tate in the second, and bring in a guy like the olb from detroit. or go olb with the first and pick up spikes in the second, pick up a upgrade at reciever in fa and a nt with our third. i don't feel there will be a nt worthy of the 12 but we do need to pick one up somewhere.
Pay the damn money it's one less spot we have to draft and gets us that much closer to a complete roster...of all years to break the bank this is the ONE time I'm good with it.
No! No! No! No! No! No! No! Never, ever, ever break the bank for one player, unless he is a franchise, consensus all pro, sure-as-death-and taxes hall of fame calibre veteran quarterback with 10 years gas left in the tank (Can you say Peyton?) - and then think about it long and hard!!!! Too many teams have had that bite them in the rump and have paid for a lot more than they got! I can appreciate the enthusiasm, but I'd rather more good players for the same money as we can get one great player (and I'm not sure Dansby is in that category yet) and a flock of so-so players.
Dansby instantly becomes our best defensive player the moment he signs the dotted line..my opinion he is a top 10 ILB Maybe top 5 at a position we have garbage playing right now..ghoulston is making 20mill in guarantied money..we lost a bidding war for pace and it's still pissing me off and he isn't anywhere near the player Dansby is.
Dansby is the one player in FA that stands out and I would like to see here. There were others too but I think they have all been tagged or RFA. I also think there was a TE or two that maybe of interest. Any other season and different needs then maybe Dansby would not come into this category, but this season I think it would make great sense. Free's us up in the draft to try and get an OLB, FS, WR or NT. If we sign Boldin or Bryant that could narrow it down further too. It sure would be great, to one day, be going into the draft looking for the BPA at one or two positions, rather than a multitude of positions, as it is now.
according to your post you would give peyton manning (a 12 year veteran) this type of money because you believe he will play 22 years in all in this league but you wouldn't pay for Dansby wow you need to rethink that statement
I understand not wanting to shell out huge contracts to FA's but I do believe you need to bite the bullet once in a while when a guy who is a perfect fit for your team at a key position of need is available.
I think you missed the context of it. On the other hand, if anyone could do it, Peyton likely is your man.
Shelling out some big bucks for a player with real talent, is better than the way we have been pissing away FA money on guys that end up being big mistakes. Just do it so that we can use our 1st rounder on an actual core position.
