From what I have viewed, Curling is more strategy than athleticism. Maybe it's like bowling...a few ales or ciders and up goes the score?

LOL I dont want to get into trouble saying Curling isn't a sport, but Curling is like poor mans Ten Pin Bowling, Crown Green Bowling, or Skittles on ice. Just makes a Pub sport a little different I guess :tongue2:

    GOLD!!!!!!!

Canada with the SHUTOUT over Usa for womens hockey gold!!!!!!!!!

    B-E-A-UTIFUL!!!

Now its the Men's turn now that theyre playing well.

Im a bit surprised by the outcome of this game, I never though we'd shut the US out. Two great teams, great rivalry, I actually felt like the US outplayed Canada in this game too.

How about Meaghan Agosta though... 9 goals, 6 assists in the tourney. Great for her. I know its womens hockey and all, but that girl is a damn good hockey player. Olympic Tournament MVP also!

Its gonna be sweet watching these americans have to watch us get gold and sing oh canada!

Well, disappointing outcome. But, a good game nonetheless. Team Canada's goalie played an amazing game. Game MVP IMO.

Nice medal ceremony for Canada... How classy of Canada and Finland to shake hands after congratulating each other on Gold and Bronze. Classy. What did the Americans do? Walk off the ice into the dressing room leaving the Finns standin around, and the Canadians partying! :pity: Just sayin...

    Disagree

Canada wins gold and goes crazy.....The USA waits 5 minutes before any of them go shake there hands (kind of like the Penguins did) then they shake hands....Every single player (70) is giving a medal with there name called and then every single player (70) is giving flowers.....They then play the anthem and then the USA leaves.....I for one would not have waited to shake hands again

Canada,Germany and the USA all have 8 gold medals

Curling is actually pretty fun and VERY difficult. I played once about 10 years ago. I either left the rock 20' short of the rings or sent it into the 10th row. It is a "pub sport" so to speak. There is a reason that every curling center I've ever been to (my ball hockey league used to play games in a curling center converted for ball hockey in the summer) has a bar. Drinking and curling go hand in hand.

It was the perfect beginning to what promises to be a very good weekend.

I just don't see us losing in hockey, I just don't. We're going to face a good goaltender in the next 2 games and unless Halak, Kipper or Miller make 45+ saves against us and Lou lets in a couple of softies we are taking Gold.

I like the Slovak team but we're going to throw 50 pucks at them tonight. Their defense is pretty terrible when you get past Chara and he can't play 45:00. I'm thinking 4-2 if Halak plays well and 8-2 if he can't handle the moment.

I want to play the Americans so baldy but I can see them having issues with the Finns. That will be a tight game, first team to 2 wins it.

I think the US matches up well with Finland. I don't see an upset there, although crazier things have happened.

It's not about talent with the Canadians, as they have the best team on paper in the tournament. There's just something about a team when they put on the Red, White and Blue sweater though. (As we saw in the first matchup). The Americans are fun to watch. They're young, gritty, and maybe even a little cocky. Typical American team. Hopefully it's USA vs. Canada in the GM game though.

I thought the US would handle Finland pretty easily, but I didn't think we'd committ genocide on them. They may have to stop this game after 1 period.

World record holder....Huge Gold medal favourites and the Canadian women long track team loses to the USA in the quarters....The coach should be fired and the whole long track program reviewed.....They came in with 8-11 medal predicitons and will come away with maybe 4

Just finished watching the USA vs. Finland game (recorded it) a short bit ago, and am now watching the Canada vs. Slovakia game (live). Looks like a USA vs. Canada for the gold is destined after all. Man oh man...I'm already setting aside time for Sunday afternoon to watch it live. Should be one helluva game. Canadians will be favored (or, should I say favoured), I'm sure. And, rightly so. But, our boys still have a chance to win it all, so we shall see. It may not be the same as 1980 when it was a bunch of college kids going against the pros playing for USSR, but daggone if it doesn't have a similar feeling.

    U - S - A, U - S - A, U - S - A!!!

The expectation is the US v Canada Gold Medal match will be the most watched event in Canadian television history..

I must say, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing it, after all the Canadian team has 140 million dollars worth of Professional Hockey players on it, how oh how will the American team ever have a chance?

    :wink2:

And all those American NHL players play for free? LOL!

It will be the most watched event in Canadian T.V. history of that I have no doubt. The only downer is that it is PISSING rain here right now and there is rain in the forecast tomorrow. I was planning on being downtown to watch the game with about a million other people but I don't really want to stand in the rain for the better part of 5 hours. Looks like I'm going to the local sports bar to watch...

Well someone has get paid to win the Stanley Cup since Canadian teams no longer do..:chuckle:

OT, but the Havs slide into irrelavance is a downright shame, every league needs a bully team and they just are "a" team nowadays.

A sports bar where you are known does not sound like such a terrible deal unifiedT, this is a National moment for both countries so maybe a couple of years from now if you were hanging out with the same people when they win lose, then you can reminesce?

    Or

    You're a hockey fan..suffer the rain for 5 hours..man up!

    :D

And man, I'm hearing all of this talk about Ryan Miller being a Dominant Goalie, I'm a Sabres fan and used to the Dominantor, Miller is "good" and maybe ready to move into #2 on the Sabres list of great Goal Tenders ahead of Barrasso but a win tomorrow and then Miller and Hasek can be mentioned in the same sentence.

Just planning my day, and obviously doing it around today's gold medal game at 3PM EST. Can't wait! Even have my 7 year old son wanting to watch it with me. But, and get this...last night we're sitting on the couch watching the men's slalom (which was quite honestly downright embarrassing for Team USA), and he says to me "hey Dad, if it's USA against Canada, who are we supposed root for?" LMAO.

    Go Team USA!!!

Over 56% of the NHL is comprised of Canadian born players...just saying.

Going downtown is out. Between the weather, the traffic and having to stand outside for 5 hours the fascination has left me. Last minute change, having a dozen people at my place for the game.

Ryan Miller is dominant. He's going to win the Vezina Trophy this year and is an M.V.P. candidate. Notice what number he is wearing at the Olympics? #39, Hasek's number.

Horrible pass in front of the US net sets up a gimmie goal for Canada in the first period. Ugh! Otherwise, a pretty even period. Hopefully, Team USA can even the score and make a game of it. 2nd Period underway.

    Go Team USA!

OMG...what a game! Woo-hoo!!! Big stones on Wilson for pulling the goalie and giving us a man advantage with about a minute left. And, you could hear a pin drop after Team USA tied the score and sent this into OT. WOW!

Win or lose, you better believe Team Canada knows they've played one tough a$$ team.

    Go Team USA!!!

Miller gave up a sissy goal, and THAT is why he is not Hasek.

Great effort on behalf of both teams!
