I just watched the interview of Ireland at the combine and it didn't sound like he was going anywhere http://www.miamidolphins.com/aquavi...eneral-manager-jeff-ireland-nfl-combine-22510 I think it's around the 12:00 mark
Agree. I think Wilson at SS, if given the chance to play there next year, will be a very good player for us.
Yeah... they played him out of position last year. If they actually play him in the right position, he'll do fine. We just tried to fit a square peg into a round hole. Kindergarten taught us that that **** doesn't work...
Exactly......that and it was his stupid decision to sign two SS's last season and over pay for Wilson. It's in his own self interest to defend him.
Two rookies and an inconsistent pass rush made Wilson look worse than he was. If you look at profootballfocus.com, he had a better year than given credit for.
I personally know of Raiders and Giants fans that completely dislike Gibril Wilson. Way too many missed tackled and blown coverages. Everyone wanted Wilson's head, but now that the Dolphins GM still has faith in him, so do the forum members now. Seriously, form your own opinion and stick to it.
My buddy is a huge Faider fan he laughed at me when we signed Wilson. I laughed at him when I reminded him that we had Grove and he had Satele. And that he is a fan of 1 of the worst managed organizations in the NFL.
You can take with a pinch of salt anything that a GM says at this time of year. Part of his job is to hide true intentions .Misinformation is par for the course .
So true. I hate the way the media, even our own Dolphin media tries to get in there and get negative comments on players. Now I guess I know why the Tuna and Ireland don't give many Q's and A's.
I agree with those who think Wilson was put in a tough spot. He was clearly playing out of position and with 2 rookies in the secondary. When he is put back at SS he will perform much better. Especially with more experience in front of him at corner.
I disagree. Well I partially agree. The move back to SS will remove his responsibility in some of the coverage scenarios. But a SS still is going to be asked to help in coverage. His obvious lack of skill doesn't end with his inability to cover though. He tackles like a frightened little girl and I don't care what position we move him to its not going remove that yellow streak running up the middle of his back.
I don't know, he never had these problems in New York or Oakland, that's why we signed him to a nice contract. I think he plays significantly better this season.
Well no GM is going to say "this guy sucks" and then try to trade him, right? They'll always say how good he is, how much better he's going to be, etc. Going to talk him up to try and up his value. I'm not saying they're looking to trade, just no GM is going to down talk a player. Except Joey Porter. Ireland said it best. Josey Porter is out whining about how he wants to go to another team, the Dolphins suck, etc. Acting like a little girl with all his whining and crying. Ireland, remains calm and cool, merely explains it "we tried to cut him because of his play". HAHAHAHAHA Basically, we cut him because his play was rather 'lacking'. There ya go Josey, not only are you scaring away teams with your ranting, your present team tells everyone you're cut because you suck.
See as I remember it the giants didn't try real hard to keep him and the raiders couldn't get rid of him fast enough...
Yeah because that is his natural position and is better at run support. With the contract they gave him it's worth it to try him at SS.
He improved the second half of last season, he was out of position, belongs at SS not FS, and he had 2 rookies that didn't exactly make the guy look good. If we get a true, solid FS next to him, Gibril could be a solid SS for us. Agree too that I don't trust anything out of Ireland's mouth until FA & the draft are over.
Any player in the NFL is dependent on the players he plays with. Wilson had little help last year due to injuries and changes.
Matt, please don't tell me you think I'm a Jet's fan simply because I think Wilson tackles like a girl
The Raiders way overpaid then after one season realized they couldn't afford Wilson. Par for the course in Oakland. I still question the move for us knowing we had a SS and brought in another true SS in an attempt to move him to FS. I was disappointed as the next guy in his play but it still looks to me like both safeties were exposed this season due to bad linebacker play and two rooks on the island. I know it sounds like I'm repeating what Ireland said but if you watched the games it was evident. Not sticking up for Gibril just agreeing with what Sam Madison said a while back. It would be nice to see Wilson in his true position.
I wish I had evidence to argue that but well you know the fo made a mistake. Maybe it was all the Quarters talk and the scheme. The safeties were supposed to be identical in coverage. Was that not the plan? The defense chased plays in 2009 and didn't tackle well. Linebacker play had a lot to do with it IMO.
The only SS Wilson should play for any team ever again is Short Stop for the Green Gables retirement home for washed up NFL players slowpitch softball team.
There's room for improvement.....in fact it's absolutely crucial we some this off season. There's also room for differing opinions on this forum and you calling someone a Jets fan on here means you have room as well.
Absolutely. I believe our FO has easily done one of the best jobs in the NFL over the past two seasons. Sure, there have been a few mistakes. At this point, I do not see Wilson as some others do.
