Never played Super Metroid, but Castlevania was awesome. Just such a great game, and I wish I had beaten it. I got to the point where the castle flipped and stopped playing. IDK why
For me, it's Super Metroid. It's the greatest 2D action adventure game ever made. Don't get me wrong, I love C:SOTN and believe it is one of the all-time greats. But at the end of the day, it is a gussied-up clone of SM.
Super Metroid didn't invent (or even perfect) semi-linear exploration. I really hesitate to ascribe SotN's quality to Super Metroid. That said, I think Super Metroid is the better game, simply because it offers more. If SotN's inverted castle had instead been a totally-new area (with more than 3 music tracks...) then SotN would probably be the better game.
You're right, Metroid invented it. But you're wrong as well, Super Metroid perfected it, LONG before C:SOTN.
Not even Metroid. It can be argued that the original Dragon Quest invented semi-linearity. The original Metroid is more of a non-linear game with a couple of checkpoints. Even Super Metroid has its flaws. Truth be told, Metroid Zero Mission is quite possibly a better game.
Playing Syphony of th Night all I could think of was Super Metroid. I honestly do not think it is a fair comparison. Like asking which one is better Dark Sun or Baulder's Gate?
Fusion was worse than both Zero Mission and Super Metroid. ZM > SM >>>>>>>>> watching paint dry > Fusion
Nope. This is the pecking order of Metroid games: SM > Fusion > Metroid > Prime 1-3 > ZM > Return of Samus >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hunters
