I'd love to get a quick review from you. This is one that I've been waiting for. Here's to hoping it isn't an utter disappointment like Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising. PS. I'm still going to be playing Project Reality more, even if I enjoy BC2.
Will certainly be waiting for your review Mor. This game has been #1 on my list since Modern Warfail came out.
Xbox360 and PS3 as well. EDIT: If you implied it isn't available on the PC, it is!! All three platforms.
For the record, I don't plan to take the leaked copy online... So whatever review I write up will be for the offline campaign only. Sorry
no I'm just being a PC elitist and expressing my feeling of "a game like this will be so epic, that I wouldn't want to play it on a console, even if it's free because the experience on PC will cater more to my desires...especially because I do not particularly enjoy playing competitive multiplayer games using a gamepad and prefer the accuracy from a mouse and keyboard combination" that is the long version of "no pc no care"
I don't know how to explain it, but the demo's game play isn't as good as CoD:MW2, yet it's more addictive. I just have one question seeing how swimming is in the demo, although you die if you go out too far... are there actually water based maps that have underwater vehicles and whatnot? The potential is certainly there. Might buy if so.
No not that I know of. There should just be land based vehicles as well as aerial. I can't say for sure on the under water vehicles but I am about 99% sure and plus Battlefield games are known for having large maps as it is so with 12 player teams a large land map plus the ability to fight under water might stretch them a bit too thin. However the idea is awesome I'd love to use submarines or whatever else to battle it out in.
I've had it on pre-order for a month, can't wait. Hopefully the issues that have cropped up on MW:2 (rampant boosting, hacks, poor design that would have been cured by a Beta, horrible weapon balance and crappy maps) will be avoided with BC:2. This release might light a fire under IW to get the dam map packs out for MW:2 as well. I'm so sick of the maps. I'm hoping some new ones will get me back into the game again.
Thanks. I wonder if water will play any other role in multiplayer, though? I mean you can definitely swim... I wonder if you could swim or at least take boats from side to side on maps. My wimmenz know better than to intervene with sports and video games. Movies, however, they are welcome to join. You must train them. Easier than it sounds.
fixed Mine will join in TV, movies, music, and even sports. Video Games (unless it's Wii Sports) is where she crosses the line LOL
Lol, dude, next time a big video game comes out and you want to go hard... just start an argument and make up 2-3 days later. It will give you AND HER double the pleasure. For you, you get to enjoy your video game and the make up loving. For her, well, wimmenz love arguing and she gets to enjoy the make up loving. If she's the type to take arguments to heart, then just "catch the flu"
They had boats in BF:BC1 so I imagine that will continue in BF:BC2. Though submarines would certainly be an interesting twist.
i dont think there are any boats in the demo. seems to be just 2-3 different tanks/armored vehicles, an ATV (quad) and a little remote control helicopter. though i saw a full size chopper flying in a match, i dont know how to get in it. i was playing with the sniper rifle, which is pretty weak. you NEED a head shot to kill some one at full health. there is "gravity" causing the bullet to drop, so you have to shoot just over the head. i was in an attic with the sniper rifle at one point and some one flew the little remote control chopper right in front of me and shot me. through a huge hole blow into the top of the building.
Funny. I prefer getting blasted with a noob tube the moment the game starts. Better yet, nothing like getting spawn sniped the moment a game starts either.
Submarines were actually in their first game Battlefield 1942 as well as Cruisers, Destroyers, and controllable aircraft carriers. They had every element of Land/Air/Sea in such a relatively old game, that I will forever consider that among one of my top shooters, despite the somewhat lacking shooting mechanics. There was something about those classic Euro WW2 maps too....I just haven't been as much of a fan of the newer maps as in those old school 1942 maps. Im still unsure about picking this game up, but maybe I need to stop comparing these new BF games to the ones I have fond memories of....its obvious that DICE went in another direction and they do not seem to be swaying from that course.
The best part? Blasting someone 10 feet away from you and as you are hitting them they teleport across the room and stab you.
I've really been getting frustrated with MW2 lately as well. The other day I shot a guy three times in the back from just a few feet away, [I hit him center mass] and he turned around and stabbed me. They need to release a new map pack or something or I might be trading it in for this new game at some point. Too many people have figured out how to exploit this game. I'm sick of most of their maps and the two or three I don't hate never come up in games. I swear I was playing the other day and quarry came up every other time for about five rounds. I hate people that throw grenades everywhere nonstop. How do you even get that many, it seems people have an infinite supply.
I'm a few hours into BC2 and I really dig it. The character are a lot more memorable than moist of the guys in MW2 (Ghost is the coolest character ever imo). The characters all have their motives and the group is pretty damn funny at times. The game plays very different from MW2. The controls are pretty much the same, but it doesn't auto aim for you like MW2 does (or not as obvious as MW2 dies it at least), and it's not as linear as MW2. There's times where they put you in a gigantic map with several things to do and you can go to them in any order you want to achieve said mission. Very cool. My only problem... Mind you, this problem only exist because I suck at games as a whole. The checkpoints are VERY unforgiving at times. Unlike MW2, in BC2 you will die. If you're like me, you'll die alot. But there's stretches of the game that span quite a bit of stuff with no check point. At one spot, I had to fight up a hill, defend the hill, fight TWO HELICOPTERS, then another assault before completing the task... It only saves after all of that. So if you die anywhere in there... You have to do ALL of that crap again. Incase you didnt notice, helicopters are not easy lol
i dont know if the demo is restricted or something, but i can no longer play it. it will not connect to EA's servers. i can connect and play other EA games though. i know battlefield 1943 had a time limit restriction on the demo. it only let you play for about 30 minutes untill it locked you out. i dont remember seeing anything about that on this demo, but it doesnt work for me now.
is it the demo or the Beta? If it's the Beta, then I'm sure the Beta period is over and that explains it. EDIT: Seems like the demo was the makeshift beta and it ended Feb 25th http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/62132
Great review Mor as usual. I simply can't wait for this game to get in my hands tomorrow. Oh one thing I wanted to ask Mor are you buying the full version of the game to play online?
if it weren't for FF13 and God of War 3 being a week apart (and starting to ruin my life) next week (FF then GOW), i definitely would. I just dont see myself spending $60 on it to play it for 1 week, then FF13 comes out. Not to mention, word on the street is that the 360 version of FF13 will be dropping very shortly.
Makes sense. Also has anyone else gotten this today? I have it on release date delivery from Amazon but because of another wonderful Tennessee snow storm in my area I doubt it'll get delivered...wonderful luck. I'm hoping a few on here are getting it for the PS3 so I can have some competent squad mates.
PS3 owners - how active is the multiplayer? If it's anything close to as active as MW2 I'll be getting this. Absolutely loved the beta, but I don't want to buy this game if it's going to be dead online.
It's not dead online, but I've only been playing it for a day and I'm not too in love with it. It just isn't as exciting as Modern Warfare. The game just seems too slow to me, and I feel like your character is very blocky when he moves. Also there isn't a lot of customization like there is in Modern Warfare. Yea you can get sights and new guns but it's based off of XP earned and I feel it takes awhile to get there. Plus the rush game mode is kind of boring. It's just cap theses 2 mcom stations move up and repeat. And they are easy to get. I don't like the inability to go prone either. There are some good things however. I do like the classes, it is cool to have Assault, Engineer, Medic and Recon. Also the whole 4 squads at once in deathmatch is cool too. Overall I'm not sure if it's because I'm used to MWF2 or what but I have this on 5 day rent and will continue to give it a chance. And I miss kill streaks.
On the campaign, there is a part where you race ATVs. It's really just a fun and different level. But in the race, one of the guys you're racing says "If these were snow mobiles I'd kick your ***!" the other NPC responds "Snow mobiles are for sissies!" i thought it was funny
I think the prob that MW2 has been having(from what I read and seen) is the lack of designated servers and HACKS in general that ruined the game for PC'ers. That 'can' be fixed if Steam(IW) does the right thing. They have nice design, good maps and the weapons are not bad compared to earlier versions of COD,imo.
I went online for about 3 hours on Friday night and it was very active. I got in a large game and it was always full. Positives: The servers are awesome. Almost no lag and finding a game is fast. Negatives: I totally suck. I don't feel comfortable. The controls are just different enough from MW2 (and all the other Call of Dutys) to make it a pain in the *** for me. If you loved the beta then get it. You'll have no issues finding a game online.
