Derrick Mason is not what we need (36 years old) unless he comes for under 1 mil. Bryant isn't bad if he's healthy. I wouldn't mind if we get these guys at steals. Otherwise I'll pass...

Mason always seems to get the job done... that could be a move to bring in a veteran who would help the younger guys get better... although, what do we have a wr coach for? Interesting about Bryant.

If either one of those guys are the FO's lone attempt to upgrade the WR position.....I'm not gonna be very impressed.

I have a ton of respect for Mason but how much does he have left? We need someone younger.

Antonio Bryant, however, I can get on board with.

Mason for the right price would be a good pickup. It wouldnt be more than a temp solution, but could let us play with lower round developmental receiving prospects, or just wait it out till next year where there are projected to be a number of top flight rookies declaring.

    Id prefer Bryant though.

Both of these guys are very underrated I think.

Not very impressive, I agree. But on the other hand, if we upgrade on defense through FA - maybe Dansby and/or Rolle or Otogwe, and maybe another like Foote or Banta-Cain, then it kind of stands to reason, I think that any other FA signings would by necessity be on the cheap.
Not to mention they're probably also thinking in terms of resigning Ferguson, Taylor and Pennington.
I would love them to trade for Boldin or Marshall, though.
If a good number of the above mentioned get signed then we're stuck hoping we look for WR help early via the draft.
But maybe some of it will be offset by a much improved defense :dunno:

    A. Bryant reportedly wants #1 WR money yet has failed to produce like a #1 WR 75% of the time.

Baltimore is focusing on Boldin now...We need to make up our mind if we want him or not.

I'll happily take Bryant at a solid price if we can't come to terms with Boldin on a deal + compensation with Arizona. Mason? Pass. Unless we're going into camp with the current group and maybe a mid round (unexpected to contribute right away) rookie draft choice, then no way. At 36 years old, just no.

I'd be fine with either honestly... Not like Mason is going to be a long-term solution anyways... Signing someone like Mason, Bryant, or even Chris Chambers would be a good move IMO.

Wild guess they sign Bryant and then proceed to also sign Watson, hopefully following Dansby. Even after that they may try to acquire Cliff Avril.

Do not sleep on Derrick Mason.

Dude may be 36, but he can still play. Still has the speed to get down the field. Mason was absolutely one of the best WR's in the league for a number of years. And I tell you what, he's a damn sight better in the locker room than Antonio Bryant, who Buccaneers coaches accused of quitting in 2009.

To be honest, I'd prefer Mason to Bryant. Neither guy is the long-term answer, but only one of them realizes it. Mason is a much more stable presence IMO.

I wouldn't mind Mason at all. Even though Bryant is younger, Mason works his butt off and just makes catches. If they're both short term answers I'd rather have the one that has proven season in and season out that they can put up numbers.

Well considering that Burleson put up 800 yards or so and is 28, I don't see Bryant getting much more. Perhaps he'll get even less especially considering taxes and location compared to Detroit.

Mason for two years and Bryant for three years would be great bets.

I'd be surprised if we took Mason a year after entirely ignoring the also old but good Marvin Harrison... and the not as old, but still old, and not as good, but still good, Amani Toomer.

This FO doesn't sign old. Pennington and Ferguson are the only big excpetions, because we badly needed core positions at QB and NT to start rebuilding in Year One.

I disagree - Harrison looked done and washed up, not to mention he had (still has) potential legal trouble.

Toomer was alright, but not on Masons level.

Yeah Derrick Mason is vastly underrated; I suppose because of the team he's been playing for. The Ravens have never been known as a high powered passing team. In spite of that Mason has had 8 out of 12 seasons with 1000+ yds. Over 11,000 yds and 59 TDs in a running offense isn't too shabby a career. I know part was with the Titans. But 4 of the 1000+ were with the Ravens.

When its all said and done Demaryus may go before Dez. You may have it backwards here. Pat Kirwin was saying how a lot of the coaches he has spoken to about Bryant are not very happy with his actions and are not considering him in the 1st. In contrast they have spoken highly of Thomas, one of them even saying that he may be better than Calvin Johnson.

    I'm not saying just saying........

If we can get mason for a song maybe but how much does it really help us
as bad as the Ravens need wr help and even they didnt keep him
i know some might ask me what do you want but isnt there a better option out there somewhere
    didnt mason already retire once
what if we sign him and he does it again
me thinks we are barking up the wrong tree just to fill a need

Honestly, I would be extremely disappointed if we signed either of this WRs as an attempt to solve our issues at the position. Like I told my wife last night...Its Marshall, Boldin, or you draft one in the first day ( or what was considered the first day).

I would prefer T.O. over either of these guys too. Give him a 1 or 2 year contract. I think he has grown up alot over the last two or three years. That last year on barfalo really humbled him.

My first thought when I saw him name.

I like Mason a lot. Always have. Yes, he is 36, but this receiving coprs has no veteran presence and currently, has no number one that the rest of the guy's can play off of. Mason may not be the prototypical number one we are looking for, but he is a viable threat and someone the young guys CAN learn from for a year or so.

I would be okay with picking up Mason. Its something this young, directionless position needs imo...a veteran leader.

Mason of 2-3 years ago, maybe. But, IMO he's too old and too small. We need size and speed at the WR position. He also developed a case of the dropsies last season with Baltimore IIRC. I'd much rather see us develop what we have (cough, cough...Pat Turner), and possibly look for another WR later in the draft. I still think Bess, Hartline and Cam give us a solid if not spectacular core at WR. And, then there's always Teddy Boy. Sigh...:pity:
