What else is he gonna say? He's got the leverage.

If we give him an amazing deal, he might sign. Or, he might use us to set the market and let Dan Snyder throw another mil or two on top of our offer. With Peppers going to Chicago, the Skins have to overpay someone, dont they?

If we were to overpay anyone this year it would be Dansby IMO...

I dont think teams will go TOO far out of their way when it comes to salary. There is a very real possibility of a lockout if this mess doesn't get taken care of and the owners will take a major bath if thats the case. So putting too much money out there now, even when they are allowed to, could come back to haunt them down the road. I expect spending to be within reason.

Of course and the smart teams will set their own in-house salary cap but you always have those teams who love to spend
that is where the frenzy will be sam

Agreed. They still have to find the money to pay the salary whether it's uncapped or not. I really think that this year is just a golden opportunity for teams to unload players with bad contracts -- thus taking the hit this year when they can.

By the way, did anyone else read the title of the thread quickly and think that Dansby was visiting AND we signed Eminem?

Eminent is the past tense of Eminem. A fitting metaphor for his career. UNINTENTIONAL WORD PLAY FTW!

    How eminent is eminent?

FA is slow this year due to the fact that no one knows yet how much money will be offered in this terrible uncapped year.

  13. Samphin

Maybe that is why he wouldn't sign. Parcells really shouldn't be THAT forward with his intentions with Dansby...

I think they really have to pitch him on this being his team, at least defensively. Let him know that Porter's gone, and that they're are going to rebuild this defense around him. That he will be the defensive signal caller, and they want to him be the leader (captain) of the D. Let him know that they want him to be a leader in the locker room, in the huddle, and on the field. Really spin that this is an opportunity for him to part of something special. I don't necessarily believe Miami has to give him the best offer financially. The draw of south Florida, being part of this once proud organization, and playing for The Tuna should all count for something. Bill Parcells to Karlos Dansby "you can play for me son."

Keep in mind...he wanted to come here, otherwise he wouldn't have chosen to visit Miami first. That shows interest. I say as long as we don't insult him with an offer, it's all but a done deal.

    JMHO...

someone forgot that prior to 1987 there was no cap. Football isn't about how much you spend but about the players you get and how they fit your system. This isn't baseball or basketball where talent can usually win out...execution will beat talent every time and since on any given play there's 11 moving parts its about how those players work together.

I tend to like the cap but I don't think not having one will ruin the sport.

I think the fact we are overhauling the LB corps, or apparently want to, should go a long way to telling him we're serious.

He'll be the true vet on the squad, and likely in a position to make a huge impact.

I don't know what the situation with the other teams is, but I'd think if I were in his shoes I'd see this as one of the better opportunities out there, so long as the pay was well enough.

Your exactly correct, football isn't about how much you spend. But those players you get that you are talking about is about how much you spend. Granted there are going to be the Florida Marlins every now and then, but for the most part its about the Red Sox and Yanks which spend some of the most money. Teams like the Marlins are the exception not the rule.

Talent usually goes along with execution in my opinion. You wouldn't say somebody is talented if they cant execute would you??

I really hope that you are correct and it doesn't kill the sport, or I hope the Ross wants to win a championship really bad and wants to fork over the cash to win. Just judging by the look of the stadium most game days though, I'm saying he doesn't see it worth the investment to spend that kind of money.

Grabbing a high-profile LB who is able to play inside or outside for Mike Nolan's defense??? Are you kidding me!! I'll be extatic! He'll give us more flexibility with standard and nickel packages...

I just hope Dansby isn't playing the Dolphins like Pace did. He knows the Dolphins will offer a decent contract and he might use it to set the bar for other teams.
I hope not, got my fingers and toes crossed.

Parcells could make this offer: $30 million if you sign today. If you leave Miami, the offer drops to $25 million.

Of course, I am using ballpark figures, but there are ways to negotiate from a position of strength, even when you might not be the one with all the leverage.

With all due respect GH, I think that's exactly the approach that could turn him away. It has to be a more positive approach. Like I said...spin it in a way that makes him feel really wanted. Let him know that it's his team.

My point wasn't the actual numbers (make it $35 mil vs. $40 mil. I haven't really been following the dollar amounts). My point was the bargaining tactic. Dansby is going to the highest bidder. Period. He's a mercinary millionairre. He doesn't care about practice facilities. He wants to GET PAID!

I wasnt even looking at the numbers. I was just saying that he is the top or 2nd best FA this year. He and his agent aren't going to go for those tactics. That would be bad business on our part anyway. He would basically say, thanks but no thanks, I am heading to Washington, where Dan Snyder just told me he has a check ready to sign for me.

It's obvious it's all about the money otherwise he would have signed on the dotted line today with us

For someone whose stats have dropped from 2008-2009 in every facet of the game paying 30-40 million for 92 tackles average per season ...Heck what would Zach Thomas command in his prime(50-60 million) with 142 tackles average per year...thats 50 more tackles per season compared to Dansby

Dansby may be the best available in free agency but he is way over priced

the owners probably dont care if there is a lockout. their money from the tv stations are guaranteed, whether they televise their product or not. and if there is a lockout, the players wont get paid.

I thought the Players Union would pay players based on their tenure in the league? obviously it wouldn't be in the millions, but they shouldn't go broke if they were smart with their money before.
