Well....maybe that's all the more impressive then? He still managed over a 1000 yds.

i dont care how old he is as long as we draft a WR to take over Mason and T.O. can still proform at a pro bowl level at 36 IMO if we take either of them in on a one year deal i will be fine with it. I wouldnt mind seeing Chambers back in Miami either he showed that he can still play at a high level when he went to KC

Yeah I remember when he separated it and keep running for the TD. Not near as impressive as whhen Steve Smith broke his forearm and still broke a tackle to score in the final game! I was really hoping Carolina would let him go since they were cleaning house!

Then if the draft fails you are back at square one: Bess, Ginn, Hartline, Camarillo, and the great Patrick Turner.

Definitely need to sign someone capable of starting. Bryant is the only guy out there (aside from Brandon Marshall, who I would give up the #12 overall pick in a heartbeat for, such a shame) that I wouldn't mind seeing as our #1 WR heading into camp. Problem is, I'm sure he and his agent feel like he's a better player than Nate Burleson, who just received a 5-year / $25 million deal from Detroit. That alone probably screwed the WR market pretty badly.

Didn't Miami put in a waiver claim for Chambers when San Diego let him go?

If I can recall he played some damn good football in his short stay with Kansas City.

I wouldn't mind Chambers as a backup option to Bryant.

Any of them are better than Ginn. I just want to see one of them signed when I log on tomorrow.

I think we did but if we sign Chambers i dont think we will sign Bryant if we get a WR in FA i think we will get a WR in the draft maybe Chambers and D. Thomas in the second

I agree the guy is just not aging like most! Problem is to take him I want to wire his mouth shut and I just don't see him being able to perform without food nutrients!

when T.O. is on a one or two year deal he is fine it is usally when he gets in the 3rd and 4th year that he will start crying for the ball he was fine with the bills last year i dont remember him ever bashing his QB's or coachs and both of them sucked horribably

I'm not against it you don't have to sell me! TO=upgrade I'm fine with that and it's not my money. Just like I am fine with Chambers he can break 1000yds and when in KC showed a lot of miles left on his tires.

Thing with TO is that he wants the ball and wrecks the locker room when he doesn't get it. But with our present crop of wideouts he'd probably get the ball all he wants. Sometimes you gotta take a chance. If you were impressed with what adding Edwards did for the Jets, imagine TO.

TO would be a great addtion to our team for a year he usally doesnt cause problems his first year he didnt get the ball as much as he would have liked with the bills but he never complained about it even with the media trying to get him to.

Teams should gladly give up first-round picks for proven wideouts

Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2010 11:31 PM ET
Peter Warrick. Travis Taylor. Sylvester Morris. R. Jay Soward.

David Terrell. Koren Robinson. Rod Gardner. Freddie Mitchell.

Donte' Stallworth. Ashley Lelie. Javon Walker.

    Charles Rogers. Bryant Johnson.

Reggie Williams. Michael Clayton. Michael Jenkins. Rashaun Woods.

Troy Williamson. Mike Williams. Matt Jones.

Ted Ginn. Dwayne Bowe. Robert Meachem. Craig Davis.

    Darrius Heyward-Bey.

The names become a blur of mediocrity and unfulfilled potential. Each are receivers who were first-round picks in the past 10 drafts. None ever performed like Brandon Marshall, Miles Austin, and Vincent Jackson.

We mention those three because any one of these restricted free agents can be had via a first-round pick (and, for Austin and Jackson, a third-round pick, too). The same first-round picks that over the past decade have become players like Charles Rogers, Mike Williams, and Reggie Williams.

So why not view Marshall, Austin, or Jackson as a player who was obtained via a first-round pick? That's what the Vikings did two years ago when acquiring defensive end Jared Allen from the Chiefs, and the Vikings presumably have no regrets.

It's therefore no surprise that the Seahawks are bringing in Marshall on Saturday, and we wonder how long it will be before Austin and Jackson are courted by other teams that need pass-catches.

The logic applies to all positions. Why take a chance on a rookie who might never become anything other than a guy who once was a great college football player? If the goal is to use the draft pick to get a good player, it makes more sense to use the draft pick on a player that we already know will be good.

The argument gets stronger for teams picking lower in a given round. If Colts president Bill Polian thinks his offensive line needs an upgrade, he should present an offer sheet to Chargers left tackle Marcus McNeill. Polian would get a quality linemen in exchange for the 31st and 93rd picks in the annual NFL crapshoot.

Throw in the poison pill, which if done properly makes it impossible (or, more accurately, ridiculously expensive in terms of guaranteed money) for the current team to match the deal.

Before citing the reality that this year's crop of rookies is deeper and more talented than in past seasons, there still will be plenty of busts. And no one knows who'll they'll be.

Given that reality, the safest move is to use those picks on guys who have already shown that they are capable of making the transition to the highest level of the game.

Especially in an offseason with a depleted crop of unrestricted free agents.

You also have to remember we had strong interest in Harvin last year. Those bubble screens they like to throw to Bess a lot, could be dangerous with Tate running them. Is Tate a number one? No I don't quite think so but he would definitely upgrade what we have. The thing with Benn is where does he fit in the bottom of the first round? I could see him possibly going to NE or CIN but thats about it and I think they have more pressing issues than receiver. Will Benn make it to our 2nd round pick? Small chance he does probably but I do think he could be there.

we need to be conservative at the wr position through free agency. heres why its that not pressing of an issue right now.

passing yards per game was 20th in the leaugue. sounds bad but we had to switch qbs in the gameplan and playcalling during the season. our wr corps as it is will improve, hartline will be a stud next year. ginn oh ginn as many isues as he has the main one is catching the ball. it dont take alot to fix that. if he can we will be in good shape. bess and camarillo just need to keep doing what they do.

we avg 22.5 pts a game and give up 24.4 points a game. its simple math. spend the money on def free agents and draft defense. our offense will get better as it is , we dont need to break the bank or waste picks on wrs right now. we need the d to stop giving up points, our offense will put up enough points to win games.oh and we had the best 3rd down % on offense.

we can get by with a decent veteran wr right now. im not big on bryant but if we get him im all for it.a lot of people forget we went after chambers last year but kc had rights before us. dont be surprised if we go after him again, he proved hes still got some in the tank and thats all we need is a veteran to come in for 1-2 years and lead our wr corps till hartline and ginn are set.

I just don't think this team will pony up big money and picks for a receiver - especially a prima dona receiver. They seem to like to draft guys and bring them along slowly. We should see improvement from most of our receivers. Try to have some faith in this regime, they did find some quality receivers in Dallas...including Miles Austin. The development of receivers takes time.

I think you hit the nail on the head, and I'm sure the front office isn't stupid and they were aware of this too. Last year big plays killed us. Limit that, and you know the offense will make mistakes. How many times does Peyton go for the home run on first down? Not often, if not all. So why should we expect that? Well we shouldn't. The receivers will be fine, and so will the running game. The defense is what the Tuna targeted this off season if you haven't noticed? How many offensive players have the dolphins released? If I'm not wrong, none. Remember defense wins championships, or well if your defense makes good stops they win championships. ;) Dansby is just another piece to the puzzle. If the front office thinks the dolphins needs a vet role in the WR core, they will make it happen. They just can't be stupid like they did with wilford.

Why is T.O. even being mentioned. I have a better chance of being signed as a WR to this team before Sparano/Ireland/Parcells ever sign T.O. Not a chance in hell.

Baltimore acquired Anquan Boldin and a fifth-round pick in 2010 in exchange for 2010 third- and fourth-round picks.

this is just mind-numbing to me! no way we get someone with his talent at that pick! the percentages just aren't there for us, or anyone. no way i give up a 1st for marshall, but this was a no-brainer!

IMO, bryant is the only one out there that might could help us. at least he's a UFA but i'm not sure if he is a true upgrade over what we already have. mason is good enough but just too old to be of much help other than mentoring. but I wouldn't go for any of the RFAs like Marshall cuz their are too many picks involved. If we did a sign and trade for him for a pick, fine but I would not do a 1st. Anyway, I expect any fA WRs to fall by the wayside for us so we need to concentrate in the draft on one. If we can't land a big legit go to guy like Bryant or Thomas early, then I just wait and grab speed later on, like Jacoby Ford. he's even faster than Ginn and I think speed opposite Ginn may help him more than a true #1 would. two burners streaking down the field together could wreck havoc and sooner or later, Ginn just has to learn to catch the ball.

I'm lost on Ginn but I have high hopes for Brian Hartline going into his 2nd year.

Ginn can start against the Jets though. He burned Revis once he can do it again! All we need is for him to distract Revis.

What could it hurt to bring in Brandon Marshall for a visit? Seriously, a visit.

You know he can ball. You know there are some SERIOUS questions with his attitude. Bring him in and see where his head is at. It wouldn't hurt.

agreed, and i feel WR is a bigger need.... to pay that much for Dansby, would that much guaranteed money not lure Marshall? Or is he looking for far more? I dunno.

I would be much more excited if we made a younger guy like Brandon Marshall our FA focus, ... i'm only lukewarm about an ILB like Dansby, who's gonna be 29 in Nov. ... But Parcels loves the LBs, and never loves the WRs.
