Well last night i felt like a kid in the candy store looking at all the colorfull candy through the window just slobbering wondering which and how many of those goodies i could get.(Dansby,Rolle,Marshall,Boldin)

Today i feel like someone stole my quarters and i had to leave the store because closing time came and i got kicked out in the street.(no quarters or candy:( )

To me the Jets are making the best appealing deals their fans have some good things to talk about. Looks like they are winning off season just as bad as they snuck past us in the playoff picture.

:feedback: who do you think got the best candy today in the AFC east?

The Jets are the only team to have added anyone so I guess they are doing the best... though one could argue that we got better when we got rid of Porter, Akin and Wilson!

People need to understand Antonio Bryant is a flop. The Bucs, who desperately need WR help, not only didn't offer him anything but publicly stated he wouldn't be back period. That's the biggest condemnation a team can give a player.

All Lil' Tony needs is a good QB to fire up his hands... I think he would be a great fit with Henne...

A great receiver will rack up 1,000 yard seasons no matter who his QB is. Witness Brandon Marshall.

Since this thread started with the Jets pick, than we will talk about Cromartie...

I think the Jets saw some talent there, but IMO they over paid if they cannot get him to play to the level that he played in his first few years in the NFL...

I see his grade at PFF for the last 3 years...http://profootballfocus.com/cstats.php?tab=by_team&season=2009&teamid=27&stats=d&stype=a&playerid=

and his play in 2009 was slighly less then average (about mediocre) at best... his play in 2008 was mediocre-poor to say the least and his play in 2007 was average...

Can Rex get Cromartie to play at his best? That will have to be determined at the end of the 2010 season... but the Jets already have an awsome D without Cromartie...

Now Dansby had his worst season (in the last 3) in 2008... and in that he was average in pproduction... he did what was needed, but he has been above average-good in 2007 and 2009...

Can Nolan continue to get the same play from Dansby in 2010??? We will see as the season un-winds, but his play shows better performance than the performance that Cromartie has shown the past 3 years running...

I think we made the greatest improvement at a single position with Dansby. And thus the biggest impact on the team. It's hard to evaluate us as a whole due to the subtractions of three prior starters with questions on their replacements. And with Pennington, we've really solidified the QB position.

The Jets are probably right there too. Cromartie could be a good addition for them. It just depends on which Cromartie shows up. But, they already had a great defense. So I don't think the impact Cromartie will have with them will be near what Dansby brings to us. They also cut Jones, but should get Washington back from injury. I think Jones was going to get phased out anyway. So, that might not be a huge issue.

New England only resigned a current player. So they didn't really do anything but keep the status quo (which there's much to be said about that too).

Buffalo lost TO (or chose not to resign), which for them is a great loss. They also lose their starting RT to retirement. So, they've lost people and haven't replaced them yet.

    So, I'd say:

    1a Dolphins
    1b Jets
    3 New England
    4 Buffalo

Have to look at it as how much each free agent signed has improved the position he has been signed to fill.

If Dansby is a hybrid linebacker, then he has improved both the inside backer position, which before he was signed was easily the worst in the entire NFL, to above average, and may improve the outside backer position also from JPeezy the Mouth that Roared (and that's about all) to someone who may actually be able to help with the run defense in a 3-4 alignment and drop into coverage once in a while.

Peezy: 41 tackles. (Disappearing act compared to 2008). Ayodele: 71 tackles. Total: 112 tackles. Dansby: 109 tackles all by himself; only three less than Peezy and Ayodele combined. Pases defended: Porter 1, Ayodele 0. Dansby 4, with 1 interception.

Now tell me about how much Cromartie improves the Jets.

I'm all for tearing down the Jets, but Cro is going to be good for them. As much as I hate Rex he knows Defense and he knows how to get the most out of those guys. Right now at least on paper they have the best starting CB duo in the NFL. Combine that with their aggressive style of Defense and brother that's Huge......

At this point, both teams have filled needs. The Jets defense has scary potential with Cromartie and Revis, but Cromartie has question marks or he wouldn't have been available in the first place. Rex Ryan seems like a guy that players like to "play" for, but what happens at the first sign of adversity for some of these players?

My opinion is that I love how aggressive the Jets are at trying to win now instead of sitting back and laying a great foundation, trying to build the consistent winner. The way the Phins are doing it is most likely the "right" way, but as a fan, it is neat to see a Coach be so aggressive and decide he is going to go all out for it. Thus far, the Jets moves have all turned to gold. From trading up for Sanchez and Greene, to signing Alan Faneca for a massive deal, and drafting Mangold/Ferguson, to signing Bart Scott and Damien Woody for perceived too much money.

The Phins have addressed a serious need for a playmaking LB'er at a cost less than expected, and have addressed the backup QB spot with a consistent player who we know will be ready to play if needed.

The Bills and Patriots are laying back, and you know the Pats will find some solid value in free agency like they normally do. They've had an offseason similar to the one we had last year thus far, in that they are spending money to keep their own players. Re-signing Wilfork, Neal, Banta-Cain, and now trying to sign Bodden as well.

The Bills are broke, and undergoing a massive philosophical change on both offense and defense. I imagine with their coaching staff getting started late, they're trying to identify players that fit their scheme and their budget.

Right now, the Jets and Phins have started out in front, but there is a long way to go in the offseason, so it's too early to tell.

Agreed. But my point was that Dansby improves our previously rotten linebacking corps far more than Cro improves the existing Jets defensive backfield.
