I think by all means necessary we should go after Eric Berry. I know alot of people believe we should trade down to aquire more draft picks because we are not one player away from a championship. I understand this FO's reason to stockpile draft picks is to find a solution to a position by usually throwing two draft picks and hope one of them will work out. Well if Eric berry does manage to make it past KC then I think we should trade up to get him because he is worth the cost. As in sports like the corporate world if you have an asset you value much higher than what you have to give up for it you go for it. Our own fellow forum members from universaldraft rate him as the number 2 prospect. I believe he is almost certain to be a sure thing barring any injury. He may very well be close to the level of Ed Reed. In order to jump ahead of the Jaguars who are most likely the next to pick Berry if he does fall past KC I present three possible scenarios: 1. Trade a 1st and 3rd (1410 points) for the Raiders 8th overall pick (1400 points) but this makes too much sense for the Raiders 2. Trade a 1st, 4th (1288 points) and Thigpen to the Bills for the 9th (1350 points) have to assume Thigpen makes up the difference but Bills may be reluctant to trade with a intra division rival however I think I heard they were interested in Mclain so they may want to trade down 3. Trade a 1st, 3rd and 4th (1488 points) for the Browns 7th overall pick (1500 points) I think this is the least likely to occur. Even if we do sign Clark at the safety position I still beleive we should try and get Berry as we can play him at SS and release Bell. He proved this past season that he can play both safety positions and even a little bit of Cb as well. I'd rather have a great prospect rather than a good one and a project we get later on. He will be our safety for at least the next 10 years once again barring any unforseen circumstances. I know I'm making alot of assumptions but this is JMVO. Eric Berry will make the difference. Would love to hear others opinion on this. Thanks
I absolutely love the idea of adding Eric Berry to the Miami Dolphins, but I highly doubt this will happen unless Berry falls to our original #12 pick. We have seen that this regime places an absolute premium on draft picks. We easily could have had a proven commodity in Boldin for a mere 3rd & 4th round pick. The salaries would be near the same ballpark. So as much as I would love Berry, I think our only chance is the #12 overall pick, and even then I believe we may entertain offers for people trading up for Berry and stock pile yet more picks. Really nice post, and I like the draft value chart and the thoughts, I just don't see it happening, regardless of how elite a prospect Berry is.
The team you are leaving out of this is the Seahawks. He won't make it past Seattle at 6 of KC passes on him. Carroll loves big play S and Berry is as good as it gets. Yes...he is the #2 overall guy on the board, behind Suh. He is by far the best defensive player I have ever seen play on the college level in person. It would take a miracle trade up to get him and I just don't see it happening. I would love for it to happen. However, it won't.
Would love to get him. But he's not going to drop far, if he did though, it would take a kings ransom to get him as every team in the league would ask about him.
Very very unlikely he lasts to the 6th pick. No way no how does our FO give up our entire draft for one player. Earl Thomas at 12 will be a vewry very nice compliment to Y-Bell.
we are too early in the rebuilding process still to give up our draft on one player. Much rather have Thomas at 12.
In honor of one of our original Dolphin owners, Danny Thomas. I put forth that for the first 3 rounds of the draft we should only draft players with the last name Thomas. Earl Thomas in the 1st, Demariyus Thomas in the 2nd and Cam Thomas in the 3rd. Works for me. LOL.
Thanks for the input guys really appreciate it. Yes the Seahawks could take Berry but I'm hoping they go after a potential (though not likely) franchise qb in Clausen and KC tries to bolster their offensive line with Okung or Bulaga. The tendency for this FO is to cherish draft picks but that is a tendancy not a rule. The scenarios I presented don't have us giving up our entire draft to get this player although it is quite a bit I admit. Again I think you really have to look at the value of the player you will be getting. Do you actually value a 1st and third (possibly a player or two) more than Berry. I don't personally but that's my opinion and again I thank you for yours. Cheers
I think this is the reason right here. I think that they would prefer to trade down before trading up because they do cherish those draft picks. If they do draft a player at 12, I really think it will be Earl Thomas. Especially given todays events. I don't see Berry sliding to us nor do I see us moving up to get him.
I'd much rather sign Atogwe and go after Dez Bryant than signing Antonio Bryant or Mason and going after Berry.
If Berry falls to us at 12 I will kiss my grits, or something exotic, but no way I see that happening. I think we have to look for Earl Thomas at 12.
I doubt he will last till our 2nd rounder but I also like Nate Allen a lot. The draft is a crazy freaking thing which is one reason I love it. Some players will be taken two rounds too high and others will drop. One wild thing to see is "runs" when a couple of the same positions is taken early and then all the teams who need a "whatever" get scared and start grabbing them.
Lets just all start a rumor a couple days before the draft of some sort of Mystery illness and drug abuse
