Who is left for us at S? I think we would only be looking at URFA, so I won't list any of the restricted ones. Here they are with age: Darren Sharper 34 Sean Jones 28 Roy Willams 30 Tyrone Carter 34 Hiram Eugene 29 Mark Roman 33 Not a real impressive list. Obviously Sharper and Jones are at the top of that list. I would be happy with Jones. Everyone else gets a big meh out of me and Williams is horrible at this point of his career. So what are we going to do now that we have been snubbed twice at S?
I think we have three options: 1. Pay Sharper Ed Reed money(he won't leave NO for less) 2. Poison Pill a contract with OJ Atogwe(the Rams will match otherwise) 3. Draft one and hope he wins the starting job.
Will Allen moves to safety? Maybe one of the rookies moves to safety? Culver wins the job? J Allen finally comes out of his shell and proves his worth?
Well, there was a rumor that if the FL CB drops to us at 12...we take him and then move Sean Smith over to S. I am intrigued by that.
You left out Atogwe just because he's an RFA? Why? He has no draft pick compensation associated with him. The only obstacle would be that the Rams could match and that's easily taken care of.
I'm still gunshy after the whole Jason Allen experiment. I'd rather fill the need than try to put a square peg in the round hole.
There's really nothing wrong with Tyrone Culver. He's played well enough when give the chance. I wouldn't feel uncomfortable starting the year with him at FS and drafting or signing another SS to fill behind Bell.
None, so far as I know. It's the shoulder thing, I imagine, but I think the FO must take the risk at this point. This draft MUST be dedicated to improving the passing attack to the most possible extent, save for an OLB selection early.
As well as Sharper played last year he is the perfect guy to throw a 2 year contract at for 5 million a year or so in the hope that one of our young guys or a rookie to be taken grows into the job.
My goodness, they pulled Randy Hill off of the the IR mess of 07 and made him a starting Safety, why is it so preferrable to sign people rather than just chill and see who they develop? I wouldn't mind Will Allen at FS a single bit.
I still stand by what I said. Tyrone Culver should start. Not Chris Clemons he was terrible. Culver was solid.
Remember when the Dolphins played SF in '08? Remember when David Martin caught that deep pass and took it to the house? Mark Roman. He might know Nolan's defense, but he can't execute it. I watched all the SF games that year because my neighbor had Sunday ticket and he was a 49ers fan. Mark Roman might be one of the few downgrades from Gibril Wilson.
Or we can keep them in their origional positions and draft Thomas which is who i want. a young ball hawk
I definitely think we should go after Atogwe. I don't know what's with the drop off with him. The Rams franchised him last year and now they don't protect him at all. The kids a playmaker and he's young. I say we poison pill the Rams and make them pay for not attaching any compensation.
Will Allen signed with Pittsburgh today so no chance of moving him to safety, Roy Williams couldn't cover a pizza with aluminum foil, and Sharper's coming off a knee injury. I still say Atogwe is the way to go. Save the first round pick for Dez Bryant or the Nose Tackle out of Tennessee.
Option A+: Move up on draft day to get Eric Berry. Option A: Sign OJ Atogwe to a long term deal. Option A-: Sign Darren Sharper to a 1-year deal, then draft a FS in rounds 2 or 3. Option B: Sign Antoine Bethea to a long term deal. Option C: Draft a FS in rounds 2 or 3, and have an open competition at FS. Option D: Do nothing Option F: Re-sign Gibril Wilson
yeah, notice doing nothing got a better grade than resigning Wilson. If we resign Wilson, I give the front office an F.
Ever heard of a kid named Earl Thomas? He's the best cover FS in the draft. And, you wouldn't have to move up to get him, so I'm guessing in your scenario, he's option A++. I was disappointed that we didn't sign Clark. I would have liked to load up on OLB's in the draft. But, we can still do some big things on D. I think our focus should now turn to picking up a NT - unless we like one in the later rounds. That way, after we draft Thomas, we can still get a couple of quality OLB's in the first four rounds.
Well moving Smith or W. Allen to safety is not a fix. They both can't tackle and our soft on the run! You think D. Clarke running over GERBIL was bad? Well that would happen weekly with those 2 back there!
i wouldnt rule out w allen moving to FS at all as far as moving smith thats not going to happen. he stays at CB they arent going to ruin his development at that position that would be a completely backward move IMO
If I hear we are resigning Wilson one more time, I will explode. Atogwe is out there for the pickings. Sharper can be signed, but it will not happen for a while, truth is nobody will sign him till that knee is recovered. Last, but not least there is Bethea, Bethea could be signed, but Miami would have to work a deal with Indy. The only problem with Bethea is Indy loves him and with all the worries of Sanders and his injuries I seiously dont see it happen. I will tell you one thing Miami has shown interest in Bethea.
I don't want to see either of them back there. No way they move Smith like you said it would kill his development. We will see W. Allen at nickle if he doesn't win the starting job as a CB. But him as a FS would be a joke, the guy is not a hitter!
Nolan likes veteran FS playing in his defense. He wants someone who is smart and can comunicate very well back there. When he went to SF he signed Michael Lewis, When he went to Denver he got Dawkins & Hill, Here in Miami he almost had his guy and he slipped away. I honestly think Miami signing a FS is and was Nolan call, and I expect Miami to continue targeting one. Miami is probably on the phone right now and thinking over the different scenarios.
