You ppl make me laugh. Smith and Davis did fine for rookie CB's with absolutly NO safety support. Were they perfect? No of course not. Did they get beat? sure did. But then again so did Revis.

Moreover the article that started this entire puke festival is about a guy who had 20 tackles in his first two seasons as a pro. But the bird in hand (Clemons) is labeled here as a bust. And based upon one year of observation the entire 2009 draft class is a disappointment.

The 30 year old free agent with 20 tackles in his first two seasons would have made the team a perennial super bowl contender. Ryan Clark - give me a freakin' break.

I've got to go now. There is a cliff nearby from which every phins fan should join me as we collectively jump. Or maybe everyone should back off that cliff. Maybe Dave Hyde's article is a good place to start healing:

    Well away from here
Henne? Vontae Davis looks pretty good too. Sean Smith could improve as well, but for two years thats not bad.

I know it's hard being a buckeye fan, but don't forget the Michigan QB.

That article is painful evidence that signing second and third tier free agents aren't the foundation of a Championship team!

hyde nailed it with this statement

this is the reason you go out and get young players in the draft instead of wasting your time signing a guy like jason taylor who isnt going to give you what you need. this defense needs playmakers not old has beens. everyone is freaking out about we didnt sign this free agent or that free agent when free agency is exactly what is stated in the article.
It is a big lie and gets you nowhere

If smith, davis and Henne were on any other team except ours, we'd making fun of that team because of their stats. They have potential. But it's a bit early to say they've panned out, yet.

Vontae Davis got burned a bit, but he had huge hits and made excellent plays on the ball when it counted. It's fairly telling that in his rookie season he had more picks than either Madison or Surtain except for three season and had as many pick sixes than either have had in a single season. So, I think we have something in Vontae.

Smith, on the other hand, worries me a bit. He doesn't look like he has the hips to be a natural corner and once the regular season started he just disappeared. Plus, he's not at all aggressive. The jury is still out on him.

As for Clemons, at this point I'm ready to say "**** it" and let him start. If there's a Defensive Back U, Clemson is it. So I'm willing to see him thrown into the water and either sink or swim.

But why is being concerned laughable?

Smith started almost every game this year and he hardly made any impact. He had 0 big plays, looked bad at tackling, and got burned deep often.

I understand he's a rookie, and if I called him a bust after his rookie season then that could be considered laughable. But I'm not calling him a bust. I'm just stating I'm concerned which is perfectly justifiable.

Pro Football Focus has Davis rated are the 29th best overall CB and Smith was tied for 39th. Not bad for two rookies... Secondly, can you tell me how many of the big plays either of them came from poor FS play?

Jason Taylor would be an awesome signing.

Some people fail to realize that we are still rebuilding, or at least that's how I see it.

Signing Taylor would be a huge waste of time
we are still rebuilding that is why we need to go get young guys to develop and stop harping on the past.
We need to put the pieces together for the future
    young tenacious playmakers

Porter is a has been because he really isn't that good anymore. At best, he is a situational pass rusher. Taylor is a solid starter and proved last year he can play. We need him as a stop gap and mentor for Wake and the other OLB's we are going to acquire this year.

Well I guess it slipped past you that he had a pretty decent year and in fact for the money spent, was probably one of few bargains we got.

Yeah we need young guys, ones with talent tho. And until we can get some we sign Taylor for another year,,....he's got more left and is a better player than you wanna give him credit for.

Your plan of just getting rid guys and replacing them with new guys has a couple of holes in it

I'll take Chad Jones FS - LSU in the 3rd or 4th.

He had a piss poor combine so I think he'll fall even further.

Obviously, the FO didn’t go overboard with their offers to Clark or Rolle. A fair price for experience. No more, no less.

Depth is needed at most positions.

    Well except QB.

I think a few factors went in to this draft on field performance that COULD be, I say could have, contributed to the bad taste.
Obvious is starting two rookies at CB. Our ILB were inept at covering any TE's. We lost our starting NT. And last time I checked we played a BRUTAL scheadule.

We did okay considering the above with adding the offensive injuries.

Maybe these guys mature a bit after another camp? Maybe a few naturally improve. Maybe some get moved to areas they can help.
Maybe some don't, that is natural too.

But wiff on the entire 09' draft? I don't believe it, and you need a few more years to know either way for sure.

its not about replacing guys just for the sake of replacing them
its about developing players for the future of the football team
jt doesn't fit in that mold. maybe you are quick to forget he will be 36 years old and his body has diminished
sure he is cheap and all but i really dont care about that. you have to get better not continue to stay in the same place with older players
im sticking to my guns on this one because ive already made up my mind that i dont want him back. there comes a time when this has to happen.
I think that time has come.

    Damn well put

How long ago were we 1-15? How much talent did we have on this team then? We are aready spoiled, which says to me the new regime must be doing pretty darn good or we'd all be thinkig like the Rams fans must STILL be.

I can tell you put a lot of thought into your response

face it the only thing the jt's supporters have besides their deep love for the player is the fact that he is cheap. well let me tell you he is cheap for a reason. let me sum it up for. No one else wants him because he is old and done. i don't want cheap players who are old and diminished. I want young players who disrupt and take over football games. Taylors ability to do that is long gone.

    Chad Henne?

    Vontae Davis?

    Sean Smith?

    Davone Bess?

And, it's still early to tell on even the players in the 1st draft year - they are just becoming 3rd year players.

I do think they bombed on White (I just don't think he will ever be a starting or even good backup at QB and he doesn't have great size or speed to play elsewhere or run the WC); and probably on Turner (jury still out but no banking on that).

it is an assumption on Clemons. You wont hear the FO say anything bad about the player. Everyone sees us going after S position and it seems he may not be ready. From the look of his coverage last season that could be the case or maybe we want a veteran at the position because he is still green. Whatever reason in order to get better Clemons will have to play sometime. You can't get better riding the pine

Wow. It's unbelievable how stubborn you are. How is JT done? What proves that he is done? Provide us "supporters" with one piece of evidence that states he is done. Your opinion doesn't count.

Here's what we "supporters" envision. Taylor is coming off a strong 2009 season. He wants to play. He's going to play well, barring injury, and for a cheap price, too. We don't have many sure options at OLB, and we most likely won't have many before the season begins. With JT, we know what we get. A good veteran who is willing to help out the younger players and work at a cheap price.

you better believe the dolphins are exploring other options to get OLB's on this football team. jason taylor disappears way too often in big games. has throughout his career but especially now that he is old and his skills are diminished. i bet by the time the draft is over and the dolphins are heading toward the season they will have filled the vacancy and have no need for JT.

JT also has the ability like almost NO other to change the game with one play. (i.e. Jets game #2 this season). He creates more turnovers than almost any other front 7 player I can remember. And this past season was no different.

So yeah, he may disappear for 80% of a game at times, but then that 1 play he'll kill ya. He'll create a monster turnover that will change the momentum of the game. It's nice to have a player like this on the roster. Because as consistently good as Starks and Langford have been, they have never showed this big play ability

jason taylor ddidn't make that play in the jets game paul soliai did. jt just picked up the ball and ran with it which wasn't a spectacular play. yeah he scored a TD but even i could have scooped up the ball and scored on that one
he is not a playmaker anymore he just happened to be standing there when the ball came out.

JT was a top 10 3-4 OLB last year according to PFF and really anybody who paid attention. Those who are claiming otherwise either don't watch much football or just hate him for other reasons.
