I have said a couple times that my conclusion from Ross saying to spend wisely is he doesn't want to continue to pay out guarantee's to cut players, or for players with question marks. Below is a list of our free agent signings and honestly if you go through the list you can't blame him. That is a buttload of cash to shell out for the production we got!

Here's the list of free agents the Dolphins have signed the last couple of years for more than $2 million in guaranteed money to show a minimum investment:

    Ernest Wilford ($6 million)CUT never a impact,

Reggie Torbor ($4 million)avg back up terrible in coverage and open field,

Justin Smiley ($9 million)good when healthy,

    Charlie Anderson ($2.5 million)back up,

Randy Starks ($7 million)most consistent best producing FA,

Josh McCown ($2.5 million)never played a regular season game, or on roster,
Jake Grove ($14.5 million)upgrade when healthy but has spent just over 30% of his caeer on the bench injured

Gibril Wilson ($8 million).Do I really need to go there?!?!?!

You know what the Dolphins have to build on, moving forward, for that $53.5 million? Then add in our own players we extended which have failed to produce. COUGH COUGH Channing Crowder! Or players like Akin Adolyea we traded for and gave good money too.

Reading through various interviews and Stephen Ross sound bites, I think what he meant by spend wisely was stop wasting money on bad players. I don't think spending is an issue for Ross and he proved that with Dansby, I just think he wants to see production for his money!

Welcome to the reality of free agency. **** goes awry sometimes.

Did you really believe that Wayne Huizenga didn't really care if his money did not provide a big positive impact on the team?

Dan Synder he likes to blow it! honestly I think those days are gone in Washington Bruce Allen is a very good GM and was the only one able to control Al Davis.

Yeah, just a lot of people got worried about what Ross meant by spending wisely. I researched it a lot and I really think it means he doesn't want to spend on tier 2 and 3 guys to cut them. He would rather spend more and get impact players.

Well, I don't think Ross has any sort of say in the personnel. He tells them how much they can spend, and if it's not enough Parcells threatens to leave or whatever.

I don't know it's even a specific avoidance of tier 2/3 players given that the nature of the uncapped year has eliminated a huge percentage of those players.

Well right now I would say Ross express his concern and things he believes will make the Dolphins better. Ross has been very successful at any business venture he has taken on. ross was handcuffed when he brought the Dolphins because of the Dolphins 11-5 and Division Championship turn around. Make no mistake though he has set expectations and will hold Parcell's and Ireland accountable. 7-9 will not be tolerated, I am not saying I want Ross to fire anyone. What I am saying is I want him to hold them to a very high bar!

dan snyder doesnt purposefully blow his money although sometimes it seems that way. just like any other owner he expects something to come from his investment. the problem with the skins in the past is they have tried to build their team through FA and that is *** backwards. you end up with a team full of overpaid veterans who have zero chemistry
maybe he wants to win or just cares about butts in the seats but im sure he wants production from his spending
    all the owners want that

I think the Skins failure has been in coaching hires and front office. Shanahan and Allen are a very positive step in the right direction. If Synder stays in his owners box and lets them do the job he hired them for they will improve a lot.

All true, however consider also these guys:

    Jason Taylor-1.5 million
    Cameron Wake-800k per yr
    Devone Bess-Exclusive Right FA
    Ty Culver-street FA
Lou Polite-dunno...do know it won't be much money

Point being, there have been several FA busts, however they also are very clever with Ross's money in other ways, Ireland and Gaines are brilliant bargain shoppers

    Greetings Padre,

While those players have been productive and nice signings. I was just trying to help calm the nerves of the fans that Ross is going to turn into the Glaziers and leave 20+ mill under the cap every year while failing to retain talent, bring in talent and bleed the profits dry for other business ventures. My opinion of Ross is he is the ideal owner he stays quiet, provides the tools and resources for success, but has high expectations!

Well, tbh flynryan...if I were Ross I'd be saying "wooh there nelly, I'd just rather give Ireland extra money to sign UDFA's because your record on Free Agent production is looking a little bit shakey..just a lil bit.."

Ross, Wayne H, both would spend, but whomever is doing the Veteran Scouting for them is not very good at their job as you pointed out correctly.

If I were Ross, the Gibril Wilson fiasco would rate a "tell me why you signed this guy again?" phone call...

AGREE! That is why I don't buy the Ross better be quiet or Parcells will quit theory. Everyone has to answer to someone even Ross! He answers to us because with no success his revenue falls.

Gibril Wilson was playing out of position which was not his fault. Put him at SS and Bell @ FS and see how they do. Thats was a dumb FO move. Crowder had a bad year like alot of guys on defense. Lets see how he does this year

You can always tell what kind of season Crowder will have, by the size of his gut during camp.
