The problem is an awful lot of talented WRs in this league have a bit of "diva" in them. It's the nature of the position. So the FO can continue to thumb their noses at these play makers and keep dragging in flocks of Patrick Turners. Maybe they'll get lucky one of these years. Maybe not.

To me it's starting to seem like cutting off your nose to spite your face. If they didn't want a "diva receiva" they should have dealt for Boldin.

Even if we draft a reciever that's not a diva as soon as they hit that threshhold where they become a top tier talent they 99% of the time become a diva so this line of thinking is essentially resolving to never have any top tier talent at reciever on your team.

Sure we might get lucky and hit that 1% eventually, just like we might win the lotto before we die but odds are pretty good we won't. They really have to get out of this "we don't want a diva" mindset, either we want top tier talent at reciever or we don't, can't have your cake and eat it too, gotta take the bad with the good and so on... and so on.

Whats left on the market worth looking at?
T.O. and Marshall both diivas so to speak get over it the big head is attached to alot of the best players.
T.O. can't be consistent on catching the ball, alot like Ginn just a bigger body.
    (And attitude)
Marshall has the better hands in my opinion and is younger he will make someone a very good WR.

Well, let the Trifecta take the moral high ground all they want, just know that after 17 weeks from the opening kickoff in the season opener, Dolfans and the Dolphins will be watching other teams.

There are many good receivers who are not divas. We just need to be patient and we will find one.

Jerry Rice was anything but a Diva, and nobody has EVER played the position better. Don't tell me it is the nature of the position, it is the nature of the mental disposition, and I'll put my trust in Parcells on this issue.

Edit: Rice also wasn't that tall, nor that fast. He WORKED harder than anyone else who ever played that position. Michael Irvin may have had his off-field problems, but he wasn't all that fast and in practice and in games, he was NO Diva, and he also out WORKED everyone else at his position. Want some more names?

The list of divas is much shorter then the list of non divas at that position. But because all you ever hear about is said divas latest off field bs it just makes it seem the opposite. There are a lot more cj and Fitzgerald non diva WR's then there are Chad Johnson's.

Then they'll probably never have an elite WR on the team. That's just something you have to usually put up with at that position unfortunately. Jerry Rice retired so I don't see many options for an elite receiver minus the attitude.

The pats had no problem signing problem child randy moss.Wow he has only scored 47 tds in 3 seasons for the pats.I wouldn't want a trouble maker on my team like that.
I would rather have a good guy like pat white and ted ginn to spread joy in the locker room and suck on the field.

I won't argue that there were, and still are some great non-"diva" WRs in the league. Can you find one we can get? Any available in the draft? Maybe, but it looks like Dez Bryant might be a "diva" as well. Any in free agency? Anquan Boldin was one of them. He's gone. Brandon Marshall and T.O. are about all that's left. It's a win now league. We have a huge need at WR. You can't always get the super talented, high character player. Sometimes you have to take the baggage with the talent. Or continue to put a group of mediocre nice guys on the field and we'll continue to watch other teams that realize how important the passing game is in today's NFL win the superbowl.

Jerry Rice was one of a kind. By the time the Dolphins find their Jerry Rice at receiver, some of us won't be around to see it.

I don't think the problem with Marshall is that he's a diva, the problem is that he's a coach killer, has an arrest record and you worry that he will be suspended by the league for a long time. Parcells got along fine with Meshawn, a diva for sure but the guy worked hard and didn't get in trouble. Some of the things Marshall has done get glossed over by fans, this guy is a major risk/major reward type player, he's not just a ego that likes to be stroked, he's a guy thats had major problems off the field and with coaching staffs.

I don't buy that you have to put up with this kind of behavior 'because of the position', thats a made up argument, theres been plenty of WRs in this league that aren't getting arrested or suspended by their team and still put up good numbers. Remember, Marshall wants a huge payday as well as us having to give up the 12th overall pick.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!! to me diva means you are a p***y, Ted Ginn is a diva...that is such a stupid name that I think Sporano dubbed for somebody a while back, and it caught on....Lets look at some "divas" TO, 85, BM, Q (could have been considered one), Moss, are you kidding me I would take any of those guys in a minute!!!! All of those guys ARE NOT divas expect Moss, all of those guy went over the middle (except Moss) more times last year in 8 games, THAN GINN HAS DONE IN HIS CAREER!!!!!! TO is/was a beast, tough gritty, remember that SB played on a broken ankle??, 85 almost got his head knocked off 3 times last year literally that can remember, Q got his jaw wired shut, and played the next week, Brandon Marshall is anything but a diva, the kid is hungry young and unstoppable.....again...WHO CARES IF THEY ARE COCKY!!!!!!! I want my WR's to be cocky, you HAVE to be cocky as a WR to go over the middle in today's NFL, this isnt the 50-60's NFL...these guys are alot stronger, quicker....

Being honest can anybody tell me they definitely want so and so at 12 in this years draft.....AND 80% of people on this board would agree with.....like Vontae last year?? Or Long?? or Brady Quinn (even though I didn't want him, I wanted Willis that year ha!)...this year at 12, there are alot more reaches than sure picks, at least I see that thru the posts on here...and I have even flipped alot too....if your first round pick was Brandon Marshall how the hell are you going wrong!?!?!?!

they arent tough enough, they are weak...Porter got pushed around like a rag doll all year...crowder was a non-factor, AA you saw many a times get pushed back after the point of contact...they do not bring a tough physical style of football...except for Ricky, and Polite and the OL.....I do not equate blitzing with being aggressive, I'm talking knocked somebody in the mouth like the Jets do......

In case any of you guys missed the show last year, we lost most of our games due to our defense giving up 20+ points like it was going out of style. So please lets not try to misrepresent it by saying that the Dolphins will never go to the playoffs without an All Star Receiver.

That being said, typecasting all Wide Receivers as Attention Whores/Troublemakers is just not right. Example: Andre Johnson. One of the better receivers in the league, I haven't heard a peep about.

Ocho Cinco, Terrell Owens, Brandon Marshall, and after that I'm having a hard time coming up with "Diva" receivers.

The point of the matter is it's a really bad assumption to say you HAVE to put up with a toxic ego at ANY position, to win a superbowl. How many superbowl wins do TO, Ocho, or Brandon Marshall have?

It's not unheard of, but I'm trying to say that it's not the rule. It's not a requirement to have someone on your team like that.

It just seems that the standpoint of a lot of people these days is If you want to win championships, put up with a cocky WR who would rather be an actor than a WR. And I just think that's not true.

have to disagree with you on this bro, and I love ya!!!...I'm not talking individual players making individual plays....talking as a unit...they gave up the 9th most pnts in the game...the ground game was pyhsical I will give them that...the passing game was weak, not aggressive and vanilla....IMO alot had to do with arse whip play calling or lack of I should say (Henning)..the NFL is turning into an aggressive game, again I not saying throw fly routes, and blitz all day....but they need to when the time calls for it, be able to perform those tasks flawlessly...and they just dont, they dont have the mindset, the talent, and the desire to play physical football....they want to run the clock out and be conservative...and their defense I hope it turns around, cuz if they dont sign anybody else, and draft a crappy draft, like last year's, it isnt out of the realm to be in 4th...

this team is on the fence is going down really fast, or up....

Just for the record, I don't think Brandon Marshall is a troublemaker. He has had some ALLEGED issues with domestic violence, but that's about it. I think we are blowing him out of proportion. He's a frat brother of mine and from the social settings I've been in with him he's an alright guy. I mean....Cecil Collins....Lawrence Phillips....Maurice Clarett....these guys are trouble makers. I mean..Ray Lewis caught murder charges but I don't think anyone would knock him being on our team. So...can we please stop beating the "troublemaker" drum. He's a young kid who has got into some trouble....and acts like every other wide receiver in the league. The Miami Dolphin are not your church's flag football team.

jerry rice, steve largent, marvin harrison, reggie wayne, torry holt...it's easy to find a non-diva #1 i think our front office just doesn't want to pay the "diva" price.

after having 30 yrs of mediocracy in the reciever department it's time to pay for a #1 reciever.we fans deserve atleast one.we've suffered through too many chris chambewrs.david bostons, mcknights and tedd ginn's.we are never going to make a strong superbowl push with a strong chance to win untill we get one.

the way that diva is used to describe WR is players that seek the limelight on themselves. Selfish, self important.
Diva for WR is not playing soft or weak.

The top WRs are generally divas.
So if you want a top WR typically they have that character trait.
to avoid divas is to avoid top WRs.
Clearly there are top WRs who aren't divas, but where is Miami going to get a real #1 WR then?

Killa getting Marshall with your 12th, allows you to literally use every resource to allocate to the defense from here on out...okay maybe in a year or two you worry about a RB, but they are easy to find, a TE you ask?? whatever draft one later, or roll with who you have, it is the least of the needs....but at that point it is a matter of jelling bro....I cant believe Henne isnt speaking up?? Henning goes on record as saying he doesnt want a headache, BECAUSE HE IS A DINOSAUR!!! Any younger hungry OC would be like yeah get him in here I want to coach him up and make him a HOF'er, if Nolan was a OC, I could definately see him wanting that challenge!!! Henne probably got told to button it after the first time...

In the end, you could literally spend every draft pick on defense, maybe even trade Thiggy or Penny, for another higher draft pick....the sky is the limit kinda....go into the season scoring points like crazy and wait for the defense to catch up alla the Saints did for the past couple of years...or do nothing and have a nursing home offense and the same holes on defense...if Suh made it to 12, or somebody amazing, I would reconsider, but as it stands with who it looks like will be available at 12...it again is a no brainer, and quite frankly wondering if this FO is competent.....people on this board are making this kid out to be Charles Manson...he is wild so what, any coach worth his salt, would harness it and get the best out of him...

yea,i never liked that whole arguement that so and so doesn't want marshall because we would have to give up a first plus a new contract.uhm if we got dez then wouldnt we have to give up our first?and i highly doubt we would sign dez to a 1 yr deal worth 2 million with a $1000 garuntee..we would still have to sign a sizeable contract. i look at trading picks for players as using your pick earlier than the alotted draft time.but i only do so if it's clearly a major upgrade or to fill a position that is sorely needed in which case a marshall does both.
gm's are able to word the contract in ways that protect themselfs(players have to agrre but most do) financially from players like that..good example is pittsburgh putting in the clause that suggest ben wear a helmet when riding his motorcycle..if something happens to ben on his motorcycle and he wasnt wearing a helmet then the team can get some of the money back if ben isn't able to play.

Yes our defense was a problem last year. But in a lot of those games our offense was also a problem down the stretch. Stalled drives and 3 and outs when we needed to close the game down. Against both the Colts and the Saints. No matter how good your defense is, teams like that will score if you keep giving them the ball back.

As I've said a million times, getting better on offense makes you better on defense. Getting better on defense just makes you better on defense. And we have seen that the best defenses in the league can't match the offenses of the Colts and Saints.

I can only assume you've started watching them in the last 5 years? The 70's Dolphins were the picture of toughnss. Then you had the 80's air show with not much toughness, but alot of aggressiveness on offense (which you are calling for and equating to toughness oddly enough). Then Marino was gone and in came the Jimmy Johnson years of having an extremely physical defense, albeit mentally weak. Then Wanny, and while they were the poster child of "play not to lose" they were just about the toughest bunch of SOBs around. Teams were always complaining how they were beat all to hell after playing us. Then we had the Saban years, in which we weren't wildly successful or even all that tough, so I'll give you that. Same for Cameron to the third power.

But once Parcells and Sparano set up camp, it's been nothing but toughness since. Team's don't like playing us for that reason. Just look back at the quotes following games and even before games. And as for your admiration of the vaunted Jets...you're talking about a team that we've beaten twice last year, and 1.5 times the year before (that loss was anything but Favre and the Jets "beating" us on a fluke play). The grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence friend, but it's not.
