Sounding more and more like I will skip out on watching the draft this year as I don't want to break whatever is in my reach at the moment of Miami's pick, which is likely to be my cell phone or laptop.

And how many to address the receiver position?

It'll be even slower if we fail to make another big move or two before the draft only to waste the 12th pick by reaching on an NT when we already have a young, developing player on the roster.

I'd love to have Zach Thomas in our front office even if it's just for a day to ensure that move gets done. Unfortunately, Brandon Marshall doesn't play defense, though.

To me, most of that article is :words:

Save for Zach Thomas wishing to be on the Staff, imho Sparano and co should jump at the chance to have a "Film study 101' class with Zach showng the newbies and young Vets "how" to study film, what to look for, and how to practice to exploit what they have learned.

Imho, Zach Thomas would be a Maestro at teaching the youngin's "this is how it is done".

I value any opinion Zach Thomas expresses, he has more NFL knowledge in his little pinky than most gurus on ESPN or NFLN do IMO.

All the DL except Merling were under the radar type moves.

Ok. Doesn't mean it hasn't been attempted to be addressed though.

I want a WR as much as the next guy (more in some cases), but I'm not going to be *****ing about "the lack of addressing" the WR position until at least after the draft. We've had tons of holes, a total lack of talent across the board, and a total lack of depth across the board a few years ago. We're a better team now than before, and sometimes you can't address everything even if you want to.

I understand the need for a #1 receiver in today's NFL. I really do.

But if we don't get our D fixed from not being able to put pressure on other team's QB's IMO it won't matter if we can hang 21 they'll just hang 28, so on and so forth. I'm a defensive minded football guy, and Chris I know playing LBer you really gotta be in there somewhere .. so I know saying a #1 is important to you.. I just think if we don't stop them it won't matter how much we put up. How bout we get both

I'm not disagreeing with you, but it seems like everyone thinks our receivers are trash. Bess and Hartline may not be superstars but they are solid receivers who both made multiple big/clutch plays last season.

You count the extension of a #2/3 at best WR, the signing of an undrafted free agent, & spending third and fourth round picks as an attempted fix for the need of a true #1?

Wilford is the only honest attempt. They spent a lot of money on him.

EDIT: I am not talking bad about any of the above players. I'm looking at what was sacrificed TO ACQUIRE these players, which is practically nothing aside from the biggest failure as noted above.

This I will agree with you on, although there is some *****ing on my part for the sole OPINION that I do not believe we will address the receiver position in the draft for pure lust over defensive prospects by this regime. I would be absolutely stunned (in a good way) if Miami selects a receiver in the first round, and mildly surprised if we select one at #43. Then again, unless Bey Bey, Tate, or Benn slide to #43 I wouldn't really want one. We'd be doomed at that point.

Noones saying they're trash, Bess is awesome in the slot and Hartline is reliable but neither of these guys have the talent to consistently spread the field. Just having that 1 guy that can spread the field and have coverages roll his way makes every aspect of your offense better. Opens up your run game, gives your QB more time (less blitzing), gets your other recievers open, gives you a solid target to throw the ol fade in the endzone...theres so many aspects that will be better just by adding 1 player to the offense that it's ridiculous not to address it.

The way i see it is on our defense we need to lose channing crowder because he is just a horrible tackler and not a good defender. Our secondary is solid other than the safety spot and our d-line is young and looked promising at times. At WR, all of our receivers are #2 or #3 type receivers. Why dont we push hard for atogwe or sharper at safety and give up the first rounder for brandon marshall? To me that seems like it would be a great move and pick up a solid linebacker in the 2nd round because i bet there will be better players available than channing crowder

Well it's actually those "attempts" that have left me wanting......

While Hartline is a nice WR, following up the Wilford signing the next season by using 2 mid round picks on guys that will never be number one's, wasn't the best plan they could have come up with. We had a glaring need for offensive play makers and out of a 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks, we have a guy nobody really knows what he even looks like and a guy that looks like one of the worst picks since Eddie Moore. And...Hartline.

It's not some much a lack of effort as it is just a poor job of filling the need.

There's a reason we find ourselves in this position..

When did I imply that? You never qualified your question, you said:
BeBe, Tate, Dez, and Benn would be my top 4 favs as well. I think LaFell has the potential to contribute right away and I personally like Price, Gettis, and Easley as guys in varying rounds (3 for Price, and 5 for the other 2) as guys who have the tools to develop.

Overall I agree it is pretty weak, but just because we miss out on the top 4 doesn't mean I think we should necessarily avoid the position.

I don't consider a 3rd rd pick to be a mid-round pick personally. I also wouldn't say Turner can never be a #1, though I know it is unlikely.

so wait, people here started crying about how we haven't tried to fill the receiver position, and someone posts showing we actually have, and they come back saying well it wasn't high enough picks...

yet for the Dline most of it has been late round picks also, with Merling being the highest pick at the 2nd round...

so we're saying they've put in too much energy to filling the Dline, yet we put in about the same at WR yet somehow that hasn't been enough?

i dont get this thread... i dont get why people think the only chance to get a "#1 receiver" (I hate that term) is with a 1st round pick and anything else is a waste... i dont get why people think going out and getting players through free agency and trades is the way to build a contender...

I think Rich Eisen has some sort of clause in his contract that NFLN cannot hire anyone who sounds smarter than him on the air.
