The point of the matter is this... Brandon Marshall failing, will hurt this team umpteen times more than Brandon Marshall succeeding.

I just don't see the reason Ireland would take that sort of chance.

and Henne is even better than him IMO with a little development...the Broncos arent even sold on Ortin, they just traded for Brady Quinn!!!

the thing you cant get a top 5 guy in any position without giving up a crap load for him, if he even becomes available at all, whihc is a rarity...for one 1st round pick...no brainer

And I completely see this point, and think it has to be part of the equation. I also for the time being trust the F.O. to do what they do. But I will predict that as we get closer to the draft, something will give with the Marshall situation. And if he ends up on a rival team and puts up monster numbers, I will assuredly be p'd off.

I know the kid's history, and I know he is a risk - but if there is signs of him growing up (which some analysts have pointed out as a definite possibility), and he can come on board and do work, then I have no problem with the investment.

Mike Nolan has first hand knowledge of what it’s like to be a teammate of Brandon Marshall.

I’m going to defer to the expert on this one.

Good point. I'm sure Ireland, Sparano and Parcells already have inside info on Marshall

Besides costing some more money, how is Brandon Marshall failing any more of a risk than whoever we pick at 12 failing? To me, the fact that Brandon Marshall has already proven the fact that he can play, and play extremely well, at the NFL level makes up for the extra money.

If Parcells let's the freaking Jets get Marshall I am going to be sick to my freakin stomach. There comes a time when you need to put your ego aside and do whats best for the team. This guy is a freaking amazing reciever he has every right to be a diva and if the Jet's get him we are done...

I've been a huge Parcells fan up to this point but in all honesty if this happens I will be the first one jumping of the Parcells bandwagon.

The alert went off and I'm back. What do we know about Marshall? On the field he is arguably the best possession receiver in the NFL and top five overall. What else do we know? He's had run-ins with two head coaches (with Shanahan reportedly considering cutting him); he's had repeated domestic violence related issues; he's an admitted head case due to the Darent Williams saga; he was petulant in training camp and was sent home (we've all seen the video); he was suspended for the final, crucial game of the season; his team is willing to part with him for a lone 1st round pick. What are the unknowns? How he will responded to having $30 million guaranteed and how he'll respond to living in South Florida.

My question to you guys...is Marshall the difference between ultimate success and failure in 2010? If the answer is no then why not keep the pick and bid for his services as a UFA in 2011? That's of course if he's not suspended or up on charges by then.

What if the front office is convinced Dez Bryant will be there @ #12 and that he's better than Brandon Marshall?

Dez Bryant is an unproven Brandon Marshall. They are both diva headcases whatever you want to call them anyone that drafts Bryant in the first rather than use that pick on Marshall would have to be totally clueless and if this regime does it I will have lost all faith in them. It's one thing to stick to your guns and say you don't want the diva headcases and wait til next year to draft a reciever but it's totally another to say we're not picking up Marshall because he's a diva/headcase then go out and use the first on Dez Bryant.

I'm not sure if the F.O. is or isnt interested in Brandon Marshall or not. I would assume they are so the questions are how interested and how much would they be willing to give up for him. The other questions surrounding him aren't just the fact that he is a Diva its also that he has had both on filed and off field problems. If he gets in trouble again how big of a suspension will he face? Remember Pacman got a pretty hefty suspension before he was even found guilty in a court of law. These are only some of the things that the F.O. needs to take into consideration when evaluating the value of a trade.

This Front office has a plan on how they want to rebuild the team. This plan was in place the instant that we placed Bill Parcels in charge. Part of that plan entails how much they are willing to pay for players as well as what sort of players they are looking for. I would expect them to have some flexibility yet I don't expect them to deviate from their plan to much.

Myself I would love for us to get a receiver of his talent level. I like many others are still a little nervous about his continued trouble with his teams and the league. Regardless however I will stand by what ever the F.O. chooses to do on this matter.

What I am fearful of is him landing with the Jets and having to face him twice a year.

All I know is that if Brandon Marhsall falls into the hands of the Jets, this team will be in a lot of trouble. And I think it will go down as a failure of epic proportions on the part of this FO.

Comparing Pacman and Brandon Marshall is a pretty unfair comparison IMHO. Brandon Marshall has gotten into trouble, but not Pacman trouble. And since Brandon Marshall is a wife-beater despite never being convicted of battery....can we officially call Big Ben a rapist?

I say bring him on. Let whoever the "Nanny" we just signed make sure that BM gets a designated driver or a full time driver and we'll be good. With his type of production....we haven't even reached Michael Irvin status of trouble yet. Now....if we find a brick of blow in the back of Brandon's car....then I'll jump on the bandwagon with you guys.

    This.

I was in the middle about this whole Marshall thing until I saw the Jets interested. That would be very bad for Miami if they acquired him. And being that we are in dire need of a standout WR, the best way to stop the Jets from getting him would be to get him ourselves.

IF he goes to the Jets and doesn't end up getting suspended, yes, it would be a failure of epic proportions.

And what happens if he goes to the Jets, and does get suspended? It's a gigantic win for us.

If Marshall is picked up, and deemed a failure (suspended, falls off play, whatever), we've lost a Receiver, the money for however long he is gone, and a 1st round draft pick. God forbid he fail like Plaxico, as we'd have a suicide watch for most of the forum.

The alternative is that we could pick up a solid starter for any of our positions of need with that 1st rounder, not just a chancy character, but stud WR. Who knows, we could wind up with a very strong value pick at #12, or get an extra pick by trading down... Any number of things could still occur.

By taking Marshall, you're saying thats it, thats what we're spending our #1 pick on, and closing the door on all of the other possibilities. If Marshall was a stand up citizen, and not teetering on the line of suspension, I'd say do it in a heartbeat. But he's not, and that's the problem.

I'm behind the FO in whichever way they go to be honest, but I'm not going to be pissed at them if another team picks him up and it works out for them. It's a really, really hard decision to make, and the kind of decision that can cost people their jobs.

As in every aspect in life, you have to be willing to take risks to win. IMO, there is nobody we would draft in round 1 that will give us the instant production we would see from Brandon Marshall. Sure there is risk involved. This can happen with ANY player in the NFL. This risk can be mitigated by conduct clauses in contracts.

Or we can continue to ignore the WR position and watch as our team struggles to keep up with the teams who understand the changing landscape of the NFL and how important a potent passing attack is.

In regards to the Jets, I don't think you can allow a team to acquire a player of Brandon Marshall's talent when you have an even greater need for that player's services. I don't care how many players we add to our defense, if our offense can't perform we won't be able to keep up with teams with explosive offenses.
