If a little guy in a home garage can make this, what are all the big car makers doing in all their giant labs? What have all the Detroit automakers been doing? Watch as John Wayland's electric car, the White Zombie leaves high powered gas cars in the dust as Portland makes a home for the National Electric Drag Racing Association. John claims that his car is the world's fastest accelerating street legal electric car. See this 1972 Datsun time and time again take advantage of the electric motor's full torque in the first instant and continue to break world records. www.opb.org/programs/ofg/videos/view/56-Electric-Drag-Racing
Truly amazing. Yeah, what are the big auto makers doing with all their capacity for engineering and design?! And as battery technology continues to advance (I'd like to see what he could do with the new lithium-polymer batteries!) it'll only get better...yet we're spoon-fed the same rote lines by all the auto makers about why a 40MPG hybrid is the best we can do with our tech know-how.
Personally, I feel like the big oil companies are going to block this as much as humanly possible, like buying up patents,etc... Any thoughts?
i think the big things with electric cars is one parts and two insurance. I think with more research the price of parts will drop thus dropping the price of insurance. I think this is why the automakers are "sitting" on the technology so to speak as they have been struggling to make the cars affordable. I also think we the public are to blame as lets face it up to a few years ago no one cared about alternative energy. This is why I have said the oil prices going up could turn out to be a huge turning point in our country.
While it's awesome he does this in an electric, the statement "Watch as John Wayland's electric car, the White Zombie leaves high powered gas cars in the dust" is one that must be taken with a grain of salt. Some research shows that his car weighs in at 1855 lbs, and his record for the 1/4 is 11.466. He's not leaving anyone "in the dust" who has a decent powered street car and knows how to drive it. Quite the opposite. Most high powered cars would blow him into the weeds. Hell, my car at over DOUBLE the weight is faster. Whoever was driving that Corvette in the video either has no clue how to drive or threw the race. Electric cars are definitely making HUGE strides, and should be the way of the futire as far as daily drivers, but that statement was ridiculous.
