Incognito is so talented that he can play anywhere on the interior offensive line. Rumor has it that they are interested in replacing Carey with incognito.

    Will this be an upgrade??

Good post on a tough subject Cobrajet.

Every coach that has ever had Incognito has raved about his abilities. He's a good player with a nasty attitude and could be an upgrade. Even if he isn't a huge talent upgrade I betcha he'd be cheaper (and younger). To be honest, I have never been a big Carey fan.

So ya, this could be a doable upgrade (if it happens)

Surely you jest? The numbers don't support your rumor or your statement:

    Richie Incognito

    5 years 47 games 34 penalties=334 yds. 9 FS 13Hold 12.5 sacks

    Vernon Carey

    6 years 94 games 21 penalties=142 yds. 13 FS 4Hold 20 sacks

Carey has twice the games with only one more year in the league commiting 1/3% the penalties, at 1/4 the yards, less FS per games played, 1/6 the holds, and less sacks per game played. We are comparing a Tackle who has played 80 games as a starter on both sides of the ball to a known screw ball who has been kicked off a team for messing with the HC, hmmm, the second coming of JP?

Thank you but no I'll just take Carey and keep on trucking!:shifty::wink2:

Incognito would come in as a Guard. Carey got a HUGE deal from the FO a like two years ago. Incognito would come in to replace Donald Thomas. From what I've read he has been said to have problems blocking on the move and thus they'd like to replace him.

Carey has done nothing short of successfully playing LT and RT for us. He is a fixture and has not been injury prone. He gets a lot of grief for no reason amongst Phins fans. Is he as good a LT as Walters or Pace, no but he's better than most right now.

If Incognito was so good, why was he let go ?? Good players aren't let go of unless they have glaring weaknesses. Was it attitude and his propensity to lose his cool on the field and in practice ?? Don't know for sure, but there must have been a pretty good reason...

And where did you read/hear about this so called rumor ?? Because we're looking at another OL to bolster the depth and Incognito happens to be available ?? Kind of like putting 2 and 2 together and getting 3....

    Well away from here
The interior of an offensive line typically refers to guard to guard, it doesn't normally include the tackle. As such, Incognito's ability to play all three interior positions; which he can has little bearing on Carey what soever. They play two different positions to begin with, and if we move Carey to guard (which likely won't happen) and he can't beat out Incognito, then Carey should never have been on the outside over the last 5 years.

This really isn't a question in my mind.

I still don't understand how Dolphins fans believe Vernon Carey is a subpar player and not worth his price.

he often plays too heavy and it slows him down
the guy needs to stay away from the buffet and he would be a better player
he knows it because ive heard him say it in interviews

It gives me shudders just thinking this, but if Long goes down isn't Carey our most qualified and best replacement at LT?
Carey is at worst a very adequate RT and if it ain't broke, why fix it? I could be wrong, but if Incognitto comes in it will be to back up or play one of the guard positions. If nothing else, he gives good depth at the interior positions but thats JMO.

Doesn't have to replace anybody. You can never have too many good offensive linemen, especially on a run-first team. Constantly shuttling in fresh people can be deadly. Bring him, let him compete, keep the best, start the best of those, and spell them with other good linemen.

He's got a good chance at replacing Thomas or even Smiley if he doesn't stay on the field this season. Carey isn't getting replaced by a guy that, as has been said, is a guard.

My thought is that he'd push Thomas and provide insurance in case Smiley goes down. He might be versatile enough to play the tackle spots, in a pinch only...but the problem is during the year, there are usually only 7 OL active on gameday. That's the starting 5 plus ??? Incognito, Garner, Berger and a few other lesser knowns to pick from...Of the group of backups, Incognito would be the best, at least for the interior of the OL... Although we saw Garner do some good things in a versatile role... What does that say for Hartline (Andrew), Tsoumpas and Gardner ???

I have read that they were bring him in as a guard not tackle, I dont think Carey is going anywhere but tackle, and for that price tag I hope not..

I am not suggesting that Carey has been anything short of a great player, I was just curious about everyone's opinion on the subject. There is talk about switching the positions of the two players because Carey tends to be slower and heavier while Incognito is a little faster on his feet. How would you feel about Carey as a Guard and Incognito as a Tackle??

FYI, this is an internal rumor (and probably only a rumor)

QUESTION??: Must we know the source of something to venture an opinion? After all opinions are quite free.

Even if a hypothetical question, I would be in favor of the switch if the line improves. Carey is a solid player but can be a little slow. A switch would be intriguing. Would it not?.........and that's my free opinion.

    See - it didn't hurt a bit.

School? :-) Dude...how old do you think I am? ...hehehe

Sorry, but for a thousand reasons the source of the Carey - Incognito debate will stay unknown. It is NOT a coach however which leads me to say that it was most likely a rumor. It is very thought provoking however, and took me by surprise when I heard it.

    not very good
Carey is a Tackle (left or right)
Incognito is a Guard & backup "jack of all trades" on the offensive interior line
    make no sense to me
